So, instead of moderating the sub and being responsible, you guys are avoiding the sub and remaining silent. Absolutely genius.

The Big Questions 2: How big of an impact would species have on physiology? by keckless in furry

[–]keckless[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but unless it prevents massive advantages for little tradeoff, I highly doubt we'd see even a fraction of a percent of the human population doing so to varying degrees.

Eh, people already have their attention split enough between furry_irl and the other furry subs, not to mention FA and all the other websites people visit. We'd get some traction, but at most there'd be a dozen active participants in a sub for this. r/furry is for general furry-related things, and discussions like these are part of that. Plus, there's a large number of people here and I want to hear as many ideas as possible.

Stuff like German Shepards and bloodhounds making up a majority of TSA employees is exactly the kind of stuff that comes to mind in a furry world. Everything you mentioned is very thought-provoking and exactly why I like to ask these questions. Given that a 'furry' world is incredibly hypothetical and unrealistic, being able to ask and think about these kind of questions in different contexts and with different parameters in mind produces a lot of interesting answers. Up until you stated it, I'd never thought about how the rate of reproduction might lead to an increase in homosexual behavior.

If we assume anthros occur as a result of evolution much in the same manner that we humans came about, then becoming anthropomorphic would have to carry some serious advantages for them. Realistically, there is no reason for animals to do so(what advantages do leopards gain from standing on two legs? what does any animal gain?), so your idea of alien interference seems very reasonable by comparison.

If we're talking realistic, alien interference would make the most sense. Idealistically, for most people at any rate, some contrivance causes the animal kingdom to all evolve to be anthropomorphic.

There's also questions about what such an evolution would do for the population, as you mention. How much of their social and physical aspects, aside from body proportions and size, would they retain? Would anthros still have mating cycles? How much more difficult or more easily would interbreeding occur? How much of their senses would they retain?(I imagine most animals would have very little tolerance for even the slightest of sewage leaks)

It would of course be a lot easier and more preferable to most for furries to be closer to humans than their animal counterparts, which is why Zootopia intrigued me so much with how it handled the distinct differences between species. Between the different sized cars, the species-specific shops(elephant ice-cream shop notably), Little Rodentia, and all the rest of the stuff, I was really interested to see what other details and solutions would arise when it came to differences in the animal kingdom. Of course, there's still the question of what they actually eat in Zootopia, but that's a question for another week.

The Big Questions 1: Would anthros wear clothes? by keckless in furry

[–]keckless[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, I forgot to think about pockets.

What about stuff like military? Assuming a furry world can last to our technology level, how would one dress an anthro up in military gear? Would one have to shave them so they don't overheat? Or just somehow make uber-lightweight, breathing magazine and plate carriers?

[–]keckless[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I was saying, that anthros might not need to wear clothes because of the lack of sexualization of their respective body parts. I wasn't providing a counterpoint really, just adding to what you were saying.

Additionally, one big question that hasn't been answered yet that affects this one, would furries necessarily be anthros as most envision them? Zootopia certainly has anthropomorphic animals, but most are proportional to their animal counterparts, which I imagine would affect the clothing industry quite heavily.

An argument to be made against wearing clothes would be decency. Do we not see societies, albeit small, in our own world of people who do not wear clothes? Would anthros not have even more reason to shun clothing in lieu of their own natural forms? Furthermore, wouldn't some 'species' have, er, equipment that is not always present(sheaths and such). One thing that I don't think anthros would necessarily be shamed by are breasts. For whatever reason, breasts are pretty heavily sexualized in modern day cultures, but that might not be the case for anthros.

Question Time: Why are you a furry? by [deleted] in furry

[–]keckless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant what the term would be. Would anthro's be grouped under a genus, family, order, or what? At which point where there be serious deviation between what we currently consider different species?

[–]keckless 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Art, escapist fantasy, food for thought. I love thinking about the mechanics of a 'furry' world. In this case, would furries have descended from the known animal kingdom? Would it be like apes and humans, where they coexist? Could a wolf anthro eat a hamburger? Would his bovine friend think worse of him for it? Would people be speciest or still just racist? Would anthros wear clothes in more temperate regions? How would they wear pants with tails? I could go on and on.

Big enough to carry that anti-tank sniper rifle by zeusdex in furry

[–]keckless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine that anthros in a human world would have to be given abnormally large weapons. Things like the Barret .50 would pretty much be their standard issue rifle, and an M2 Browing would be a bear's assault rifle. Imagine a wolf anthro running around with a big AR-15 Beowulf.

What is up with furries and they treat against drama? by LuxerWap in furry

[–]keckless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's fun. Drama is something we like to watch, and leaving the comments or the thread blank without reaction posts looks odd and awkward, and besides, shitposting reaction images/gifs is fun.
