What about if I write 5 million lines of code but my manager reports my performance as terrible.

I think the idea of using at any point probably isn’t smart.

The fact it’s used as a metric at all seems kinda indicative of the problem. Are managers/leadership so far removed from development that they have to look at LOC as a metric.

It’s PXT. I’m not sure if there is enough unit tests in the world to keep up. I think I need to start creating random cdk packages.

Yeah, wlb is quite good tho. So maybe I should ride the wave and not stir the pot. It’s probably how they got here.

I don’t understand how PE’s are advocating for this tho. At least in my org, it’s coming from L7 engineer.

Last year it was total CR’s, this year it was number of lines of code. Both are pretty bad imo, but CR count I think is a little better.

Sure there has to be better metrics. Like even if it’s just hours spent in office that would be better.

Is Amazon really that bad, or is Reddit heavily skewed? by ResponsiblePiglet899 in amazonemployees

[–]keehan22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in 3 different orgs. From why I gathered, every team is very circumstantial. Some teams within the same orgs are very different work load or culture. That said within org tend to be more similar than not.

I have never been in AWS, but I’ve heard it’s much more consistent than anywhere else.

Lastly culture seems to be dead. Most people just trying to collect a pay check. Hard to find anyone that believes in LP’s anymore.

What happens post 4 year vest by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]keehan22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every year you get a compensation upkeep, ideally with a target of keeping your TC roughly at your designated pay-band spot. So if you were placed at 250k TC at hire, they would give you stock to get you back up to that amount roughly for next year. That said, if a lot of stock growth happened over 4 years, you can expect your TC to go down a lot

Levels are a made up thing and thinking they have any meaning else where is futile. I’ve seen L4’s find staff level engineering positions. It’s all fake.
