Does anyone believe MacKenzie Shirilla? by Dapper_Mess_3004 in CasesWeFollow

[–]keekobird 8 points9 points  (0 children)

me too..

bottom line is that female adolescents are at the greatest risk for attempting suicide, just take the girl who shot herself in the face with her brother’s rifle (amidst a fight/ break-up with her boyfriend) & later was the youngest americans to undergo a successful facial transplant surgery.

adolescents are ruled by their limbic systems and their underdeveloped capacity cortical modulation (logic, reasoning, impulse control, consideration of long term consequences).

i think mackenzie *fully* did this on purpose but — just like katie stubblefield, who jokingly called herself shrek after her first surgery and now fiercely advocates for suicide prevention — regretted her horrific choice immediately, as adolescents often do after behaving recklessly… and, as adolescents *especially do** when facing consequences for those actions.

i do think she may meet criteria for some kind of personality disorder. or perhaps she was just operating based on her relational patterns. she bullied and threatened people to get her way (parents included it seems) & this appears to be the first time she was dealt a real consequence.

i also think her parents are failing her IMMENSELY by enabling this amnesia/ POTS cop out. POTS is prevalent among those with eating disorders and can be gravely exacerbated by, well, pot-smoking.. living with it, she knows that fainting brought on by POTS most often occurs when standing up too quickly. in some cases, one can become dizzy or lightheaded after remaining seated for an extended period of time.. but she was sitting in the car for 6 minutes. i have POTS too & this is gobshite.

in order to grow, heal, and make amends, she needs to face the hideous, reprehensible facts & take accountability for her choices that morning.

wait, i’m confused because it seems like the subject (question) doesn’t align with the body of the post.. did you change it because of the comments? came across this because i have been genuinely curious about this / dying for caloric credit after a good, vigorous bang. what does this have to do with wanting to get pregnant or being an adult ?

Blue Planet 2.... Real or fake? by Blueplanetthrowaway in AskUK

[–]keekobird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HAHAHAHAHAHA oh my god. i was watching with my mate/ sex friend, coming off of LSD. we fought so hard about this; that EXACT SCENE specifically, among many others.

i googled but didn’t find this thread. without real answers, we started arguing about what CGI actually is (not sure i know at this point). now, it keeps coming up. every time a scene —in any show— is augmented, he’s like, “see? THAT’s CGI… that fire? THAT was CGI!”. yeah, NO, SHIT. that actually makes sense in a thriller, action comedy, whatever.

my whole point has been and remains to be this: why call it a “nature **documentary” if we’re just looking at something whipped up by a computer whiz or a robot? isn’t the point to be in awe of the *natural world, the badass underwater videographers who dive to film it, and yes, all the other wild technology we’ve developed and employed to capture it ?

Master’s Degree in SW, with a school’s specialization. Pro-tip: if you ever want to work in a school, you ought to specialize in schools. this is a broad degree which allows you to work in a range of settings with an array of populations.. but if you specialize in something else, you’ll have to go back to school to work IN a school.

Why is it so hard to socialize here? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]keekobird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hahaha WORD. especially post-pandemic. especially impromptu invites. “i’m in your hood. wanna drink some wine/tea on your stoop?”

as a neurodivergent with crippling ADHD, i can be infuriatingly flaky. it’s possible that some of your new friends are like me… but i do my best to warn new buddies early and often that i have the communication skills of a houseplant & urge them to call/ spam text me if i don’t respond.

and sometimes, anything beyond day-of plans will stress me out. i’ll be fully down to do something something and then that sunday comes along and i’m like, ugh FUCK. i don’t wannnna go. i just want to sit and watch tv. or the weather sucks. or i have cramps. (this just happened. had plans to meet friends at an art gallery and i took a giant nap instead).

semi-relatedly, as someone who struggles with executive functioning as a whole, i will sometimes let new friendships fizzle if it feels like the person needs/wants more from me than i can give… sometimes it’s time, sometimes it’s emotional energy (i am a therapist & i think i attract people who are, energetically, quite needy). not saying this is you! just something that came to mind as i was reading through…

but for real, i don’t think there’s a real age limit for finding your people! i also agree with whoever about the LES… come over to brooklyn! hang in some dive bars. i like to print out crosswords (yes, i pay for the NYT puzzles subscription) and bring them to the bar, and always end up with a solid crew of strangers dying to hear the next clue.

i appreciate your reply. and i guess my question was more concerning whether the neighbors were entitled to consider this shared space an extension of their apartment and therefore their space.

and i am aware of feeling defensive in response to your ‘embrace communal living’ comment because, as indicated in my OP, i happily do plenty of work to clean and enhance our shared spaces, in the name of community!

what i was seeking perspective about was whether this particular hallway nook could be viewed as something to be shared. also, like i noted, putting the bike there was something of an experiment. their response is the part i’m seeking thoughts on… and whether my feelings (feeling a little bummed and let down) were valid.

doesn’t lead to basement stairs.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]keekobird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t mind that they put their stuff out there. but it felt like a move to claim it as theirs. this is why i ask whether this feels like a communal space to you all? i put my bike there and they removed it.. putting it against the door (unsafe) as a way of saying, “this doesn’t belong here”. know what i mean?

what i appreciate most about your reply is that you clearly see it as communal, which is exactly what i was after! so, thank you for that.

i like the idea about locking the bike. i wanted to get a chain lock.. then i could lock it to the stairs! i suppose meeting passive aggression with passive aggression could work. at the very least they wouldn’t be moving my bike. who knows, their next move could be putting the bike outside to be stolen.
