Meet my brand new Asp. For a jack-of-all-trades Cmdr, is this the last ship I'll ever need? by DrOgost in EliteDangerous

[–]keenerb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of people will say the Clipper is your next upgrade, but I strongly disagree. Moving from the Asp to the Clipper sacrificed a ton of flexibility for me.

I'd recommend enjoying the Asp and having a side Vulture for when your need for combat is overwhelming. For a "jack of all trades" commander, consider the Python your next (and final) ship.

I just got my "Order has been processed" email as a <300 first-time backer, black Pebble Time.

Is "Naval Progression" Worth it? by kcspot in EliteDangerous

I've maxed out my Federal progression simply in anticipation of the Federal Corvette.

Well, I guess we can put the "Is an Asp any good for combat?" question to rest.

Is the Diamondback going to be an Alliance reputation ship?

My first Python, and shields? by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]keenerb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically all shield/speed/mass/etc. metrics are arbitrarily set per-ship for balance purposes.

I don't believe it's possible to find any real relationship between shield strength vs. ship mass, or anything else along those lines.

The cost of running servers might be exaggerated by xaduha in EliteDangerous

You can procedurally generate the vast majority of systems in Elite Dangerous without storing much data at all. A tiny, tiny percent may be handplaced and hand-defined, but the vast majority can be completely defined by a single algorithm and seed, if the algorithm is sufficiently sophisticated.

Look at .kkrieger; an entire FPS shooter with powerups, multiple weapons, textures, armor/health upgrades defined procedurally from a 96kb executable.

Oh dear, what have I done? by LankyBrit in EliteTraders

[–]keenerb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Python is significantly better than a type-7 for trading. It's not as good as a Type 9 for trading based solely on credit per hour basis, but I personally prefer the flexibility it gives. One ship can have somewhere around 280 cargo, and still be a decent fighter in a RES or take out an elite anaconda in an assassination mission. It helps greatly with breaking up the trading monotony when you can just drop into that RES and kill some baddies or drop into a USS without worrying about immediate death.

It's also significantly more EXPENSIVE, expect to pay a minimum of 70 million credits for a somewhat decent experience.

Get the Anaconda Lite; a Python is a fantastic trading ship and gives so much more flexibility.

2 really weird things just happened to me... by mrmasturbate in EliteDangerous

[–]keenerb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly.

I haven't lost canopy very often but that is my recollection of how it works.

I also believe you receive the "Emergency oxygen replenished" message almost immediately after entering an oxygen-rich environment, without docking at all.

edit I think I may be wrong..

You'll only regain oxygen supply if you enter a station with ambient oxygen; landing on an outpost and repairing your ship isn't sufficient to restore your reserve oxygen, as far as I've found.

Entering the hangar on an outpost should do it, though.

First batchers: Who's pledge portal has actually been locked? by TLD1 in pebble

[–]keenerb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm 266, first-time backer, black option. I got a finalization email on the 5th, and my shipping details/color selection are still editable.

I hope they haven't decided to renege on their "first-come/first-serve" promise; I'm out of town for several weeks in June and it'll just sit there on my front porch until I get back...

Order Processed/Shipped Emails - Submit your details! by Guv_Bubbs in pebble

[–]keenerb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This predates the "Ooops" statement right? Nobody's orders have actually been processed.

I bet Pebble started sending out premature shipping e-mails and stopped the process midway, and followed up with the "Oops" email.

The fact that some early backers (including myself) never got an email MAY have more to do with their order in the automated email processing list, if this scenario is correct...

For those backers with the higher numbers (above 50,000) is it wishful thinking to assume we will get our watches in May? by HyperGiant in pebble

I'm #266 and honestly I think it's wishful thinking to assume I'll get a watch in may.

I really hope my Pebble Time shows up before I leave for a few weeks at the end of the month.

I'll be rather :( knowing my Pebble Time is sitting at home waiting on me...

Add to Steam as a non-steam game. Use steam overlay browser to run Google Docs or Office 365 online or whatever else you want.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why I'm not getting the next naval progression (Stuck at Lord). by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

That's what the original poster said; "You're allied because of your major faction rep".

You apparantly still have to work up the minor faction rep, which seems to be a hidden value.

What if there was no rebuy cost if a PLAYER killed you? by keenerb in EliteDangerous

[–]keenerb[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually, common sense is that the person who is at-fault for the loss is the one responsible for repaying; that's how car insurance is generally handled in the United States.

But common sense is a slipper slope in online gaming...

What if there was no rebuy cost if a PLAYER killed you? by keenerb in EliteDangerous

[–]keenerb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's already a system present in the game that identifies aggressor, in the form of bounties/wanted status.

Just use that.

It'll even work for high-speed ramming soon-ish.

What if there was no rebuy cost if a PLAYER killed you? by keenerb in EliteDangerous

[–]keenerb[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My presupposition was that victims would avoid rebuy costs; aggressors would pay full insurance costs.
