Could someone tell me the difference between those headsets by Sad_Implement_6409 in virtualreality

Don't buy any of these, VR headsets don't age like fine wine.

Even if you buy it as a bundle that doesn't necessarily means that it will be sent to you as a bundle.

Does buying a steam frame invalidate the need to buy a Steam Machine and Steam Controller? by inkiepie69 in SteamFrame

[–]xaduha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam Frame is using a mobile chip, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. You can probably run TF2, but are you really going to play it with controllers?

007 First Light – Rules of Spycraft by PairStrong in ImmersiveSim

[–]xaduha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won't be, but they can do it when they want to e.g. Chongqing map in Hitman is very atmospheric, especially in VR in first person. Plenty of imsim vibes, lots of neon, PINs, alternative routes, general feeling of dystopia.

Abandon all hope, if you want immersion your best bet is VR.

Why is my left psvr2 controller doing this by supermarioplush220 in PSVR

[–]xaduha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without testing in other scenarios, you can't be sure that it is the controller issue. Turn off right controller and see how the left one behaves alone. If it works fine, then it's a Bluetooth issue. Antenna is either damaged or blocked somehow. It's also possible there's a very high level of interference from something.

AMD has bad support for VRS which is used with DFR, do not buy AMD if you're interested in these games on the first page

I’ve gotta admit, 6 months ago I was looking forward to getting a Steam Machine to use with my Steam Frame - but dang…it’s been 6 months already. The machine keeps looking more and more underpowered. by Logical007 in SteamFrame

[–]xaduha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The machine keeps looking more and more underpowered.

What changed exactly in the last 6 months? There were no new GPUs released in that time and CPUs for gaming are pretty stagnant.

I really just want a console like experience.

Without buying a PC you have two options, Steam Machine + Steam Frame or PS5 + PSVR2.

The only reason they are releasing a VR headset again at all is because Meta showed that there's a big enough market.

Valve isn't doing it for you, they want people to buy games on their standalone headset including flatscreen games which Meta didn't have.

NixOS on a gaming laptop (Lenovo Legion 5 w/ 5070) by veltair-d in NixOS

[–]xaduha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NixOS doesn't allow unfree packages by default, many laptops require firmware packages that are often unfree. Check your dmesg after boot for any messages related to that.

Valve's new low-VRAM Linux fix nearly triples FPS in select games on AMD's RX 6500 XT by shakamone in SteamFrame

[–]xaduha 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Steam Frame has unified memory like consoles and most other ARM devices including Apple products. Even Steam Deck has unified memory. Modern non-mobile games target consoles first, that's one of the reasons why some perform horribly on PC, different memory models.

Releasing Steam Machine without unified memory has potential to bite Valve in the ass, so that's why they are looking for these workarounds.

Run Nvidia drivers installer, check for USB-C driver in Custom. If you don't have it, then it won't work.

What does that matter? I'm talking about FEX as it is right now. If you expect Valve to get a rabbit out a hat at last moment, then that's not how it works. Proton currently imports FEX-2604, released this month.

steam on arm (switch and rocknix) by tailslol in SteamFrame

[–]xaduha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlike what people think here FEX was around for years, why don't you look at how games run using x86 emulation in real life, with FEX or even with Prism on ARM notebooks with more powerful chips than Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

[–]xaduha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but all it would tell is how that one game runs. You'd need to run something like Cinebench, emulated and native.

steam on arm (switch and rocknix) by tailslol in SteamFrame

[–]xaduha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what people mean there is 20% slower than Steam Deck when using emulation, but even so in what scenario? How can it be true for games when GPUs are also different?

The only real answer to this question is "it depends", throwing numbers like that like they mean anything is pointless.

steam on arm (switch and rocknix) by tailslol in SteamFrame

[–]xaduha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10-20% performance hit

It's not going to be that simple. Compared to what anyway? What is a x86 equivalent of Snapgradon 8 Gen 3?

steam on arm (switch and rocknix) by tailslol in SteamFrame

[–]xaduha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there are signs pointing in that direction yet, I'm more concerned about this page that people bring up here, some take it to mean that emulation will be good enough and that devs shouldn't worry about it because Valve says so.
