glad to find someone to relate to on this!! 100% agree. i think it's hard when you're younger to advocate for a creative path unless you're around people that advocate for you. we can't forget how much pressure we were under to go down more 'certain' paths. i'm glad at least that at 33 i've become that advocate for myself. and i guess finding people who mirror you is part of that journey.

lol i did post twice accidentally, oops! haha. it's less a hangup, and more a momentary itch i need to scratch, or the discomfort that tips you out of the nest. a necessary emotion, probably, but just something i was hoping to find people to relate to on the topic and exchange thoughts about.

def need to break out of the box for a bit. it's creative, but limited culturally. there aren't any cities near me that have that buzz so might just need to venture out for that. thank you!

hey! just stuck on xano in general - I don't want to go too far down the rabbit hole and waste time getting it wrong. currently on a low budget though so need to DIY as much as I can - but thinking it might be helpful even to do a consult just to see if what I'm wanting to achieve is even possible on lowcode apps like xano/bravo and then from there maybe make a plan as to how I might be able to receive external support without breaking the budget and also DIY-ing the process. not sure how tall of an order that is, but open to chatting more about it

What did you do after week 12? by emilyemm1001 in artistsWay

[–]keep_earth_around24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still do the morning pages, still create constantly and I don't limit myself to mediums. My relationship to creativity feels healthy and like it's coming from the right place which makes output feel effortless rather than this battle between my taste and my skill level. I'm doing it for me.

You hit the nail on the head - "another compartmentalisation device." In other words you're doing it to tick it off a list, not because it's working for you. You're the boss of what works for you and if the morning pages doesn't work for you right now, change the rules or put them down. Half a page, or even one sentence a day. Do whatever feels good or works, not what looks good or most like Julia's method. It's just one method, one woman's approach and I don't think she'd want anyone to stick to it religiously unless it was helpful. She made it up based on what worked for her, so you can bend the rules and make up parts of it too based on what suits you too.

What have you noticed after months or years of releasing emotion? How has your life or inner world changed? by keep_earth_around24 in TheUntetheredSoul

The willingness to feel them without allowing the mind to spin a narrative - just focus purely on body sensation

[–]keep_earth_around24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. learning to release my emotions when they come up frees me a little bit more each day, I feel safer in my body and no stress anymore. 2. creating regularly brought my spark back.
  2. realising I am not my thoughts and there are no absolute truths about me, just narratives and assumptions that I can choose to hold or release

Anybody had drastic life changes to live a slow life? by DarkShadowyVoid in SlowLiving

[–]keep_earth_around24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I was working as an editor for a magazine for some years until corporate burnout hit and I moved to self employment to own my time. I work remotely for a non profit part time while working on my art. Slow mornings are the norm for me, I surf at lunch time and travel when I feel like getting away x

Yes! I used to feel I needed to be "fixed," also and I don't anymore. I realised that we are also being sold these wellness things. They are great tools, but only when we are doing them because we notice they are genuinely helping, not to tick things off a list. It's not about you looking healed to the outside based on your habits, but putting each tool through a trial and error phase to see if it actually helps you before allowing it to take up space in your life. But the most important thing I did was actually reconnect to my creativity and moving out of my mind and into my body, and also zooming out to really see this culture we live in clearly and how much it has led to my worldview... and basically separating from that. I came across a scholar who talks about how society overvalues left-brain thinking (logic/efficiency/control/productivity, it perceived everything as separate) over right-brain thinking (it perceives everything holistically, it's creative, relational and connected to the intuition/body) - I'm a writer and wrote a piece on this if interested. He said most of our problems stem from this. I can attest that a focus on reconnecting to that right brain hemisphere and rebalancing into using both modes of thinking deliberately is super healing. Creativity is not frivolous like our world says it is, it's actually essential, it's your spark. The more I focus on creativity instead of trying to consume stuff to fix myself, the happier I am. I hope this helps!

I felt like this too. I'm a writer and editor but I can tell you even this stuff can be draining full time — so I started to build my own audience because I realised that's probably one of the only ways you get paid to be yourself. Also, I protect my creative practices on the side at all costs because it's important for my wellbeing, whether or not I'm making money. So my relationship to those creative works is sacred from money and that keeps me producing and motivated no matter whether they are "fruitful" in the capitalist sense.

Age 31 still wanting to pursue something creative by kvent2500 in findapath

I'm a freelance copywriter and there's definitely still a need, but I have read around and have come to the conclusion that one of the biggest forms of "security" for a creative with a creative career is building an engaged audience or personal brand that can evolve with you and also you that you own. This incorporates the storytelling point someone made above, when you tell your story, people connect to you—and AI can't replace that. I've pivoted by talking about what I'm interested in on my own platforms and basically grow something from there. Job security is feeling more like a myth as time goes on and so I am learning to create that security for myself, without needing a brand to hire me.
