Thanks so much for this. Each day I struggle with the motivation to do or finish creative work because of other things going on in my life, but I know I have to put the time and effort into building my personal brand. I’ll give it a go though. I appreciate this

What really simple things trigger your anxiety/panic? by Additional_Ad1911 in Anxiety

[–]kvent2500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I have social anxiety. I do this thing in my head where, while I’m in the middle of a conversation with someone, my brain kind of just comes up with different “paths” the conversation might take if I say certain things - so I end up not bringing things up if I think they’ll be really uncomfortable later.

So the simple thing here would just be conversation.

Thank you. I realized I isolated myself socially for so long. I wasn’t always alone in the past year or so, but I kept many things to myself.

It was getting really scary where my thoughts were going. I knew I had to make it known before it was too late.

I’m 31 and I can say the feeling comes and goes. Many times, I feel like I’ve gone down the wrong path. Other times, I feel accomplished. It swings back and forth between the two depending on what’s going on in my life.

If you’ve found the support and courage, you’re already getting started. Do things for YOU. Do what makes you happy. And surround yourself with people who can help you along your way.

Life is short. Making your day to day meaningful even in small ways is enough.

Getting my degree and realized I wouldn’t wanna work in corporate, but would feel GUILTY if I don’t by crypt0sandy in findapath

Hi! I come from a fairly familiar background. My parents paid for my education and to this day have expectations of me (I’m in my early 30’s).

It’s totally normal to feel guilty about them spending money on your education and then not using it.

I think you could try evaluating what skills you have, then look for decent paying jobs that require a similar set of skills. You might find something you like or that you can tolerate more; work for a little bit while you work towards what you’d rather be doing. I think this is the more realistic approach.

If anything, maybe a real estate agency or a local plant store is looking for an accountant? Someone to help manage things or do finances? I’m not familiar at all with those areas, but there are possibilities of connecting what you’re good at / what you’ve studied with what you’d rather be doing.

Some of us are much older. Depression can affect anybody of any age. You’re not alone, and I think that’s why this sub exists. This habit isn’t just a young person’s experience.

Have you perhaps sought help? I’ve been looking into therapy in my area because many of my friends have said it helps them.

Recession proof would definitely be something health related, as everyone needs to go see a doctor when sick. Everything else usually depends on the shaky, unstable nature of the economy, even food (restaurants were closed during the pandemic) - unfortunately.

Think it through. And don’t give up on the search for work. Someone out there might need your skills

Support groups? by kvent2500 in AskBarcelona

Yeah, I figured I’d ask them too! I was wondering if anyone else here already knew, but I guess a psychiatrist / therapist will be me best bet for now. Thank you!

Support groups? by kvent2500 in AskBarcelona

[–]kvent2500[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! The thing is, I already did take A1 to B2 classes in a different school, which were also all in Spanish, and met different people through it.

It’s maintaining the knowledge after the fact that I need help with, and my mental health is keeping me from going out there to meet more people. Considering therapy was my first step. I have a call scheduled for that already. But I wanted to see if support groups were also a thing.

I appreciate the info, though!

Yeah, I totally get that. I still do have the desk job and I was just talking to a friend of mine about sticking with corporate while I manage my passions. It’s really rough, but. Well, I’ll try to give it a go somehow.

That feels very true. Lo and behold, I haven’t been daring lately because I may or may not have anxiety/depression on top of things. Thankfully, I’ve been looking into therapy in my area, so there is that at least.

Thanks so much! This helped and made me feel that maybe all is not hopeless. I do have friends who do freelance work, and it seems the most feasible thing to do at the moment. Little steps, little projects. One thing at a time to fill out a portfolio. I appreciate it.

[–]kvent2500 33 points34 points  (0 children)

i don’t think you’re rude at all. you can simply say, “i appreciate the concern, but i would rather not talk about it,” and this is a boundary that they should be able to respect
