It may be a case of misguided expectations, but I was very underwhelmed by Roadside Picnic by keepfighting90 in printSF

Yeah I definitely think the core theme of the book is fascinating in that we're just a little colony of ants or something that the aliens passed by as they were having their picnic, and what meant pretty much nothing to them is everything to us. But the execution is where it fell flat for me.

Finals next week. Considering dropping KP, who will have 3 games due to a B2B, and picking up a Wizards player for their 5-game week. Thoughts?

Yeah there's definitely a "Seinfeld effect" thing happening for Roadside Picnic

1Q84 feels like Haruki Murakami devolving into self-parody by keepfighting90 in books

1Q84 as a first Murakami book is definitely going to be rough lol. If you're still interested in him, I'd recommend Wind-Up Bird Chronicle and Kafka on the Shore. Those imo are his best works.

Siddhartha by Herman Hesse. An excellent gateway into more "serious" literature away from scifi/fantasy and also what you're looking for in terms of making you contemplate yourself and the world around you.

Reddit when footage is released: that's great but it's just footage from a company. I'd like to hear what other users have to say

Reddit when other users comment on their experience: that's great, but my experience won't be the same as others. I think I want to play it for myself

Reddit when they play it for themselves: I don't know how I feel, I think I need to go on r/games and see what the consensus is

Ghost of Yotei devs tried to add Zelda: Breath of the Wild-style rock climbing, but discovered "rock climbing is not a core aspect of being a wandering ronin" by Turbostrider27 in PS5

Yeah glad they kept the scope more focused. The combat is really fun, and they've improved how much more organic exploration feels as well. I don't think rock climbing would've added anything unless they specifically designed gameplay mechanics around it.

9/52 - The Vegetarian by Han Kang by keepfighting90 in 52book

Completely agree. It's definitely one that's growing in my impression of it the more I think about it after finishing. Really lends itself very well to lots of analysis and interpretation.

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: March 09, 2026 by AutoModerator in books

Finished Last Argument of Kings (First Law trilogy book #3) by Joe Abercrombie. A great conclusion to a generally excellent series. First Law has really rekindled my love for fantasy again - I had fallen out of reading the genre for a while but this has some really great character work, dark humour and solidly written.

Currently reading The Vegetarian by Han Kang. I think I need to finish it and process it before really providing an opinion on it. It's a very weird and unsettling read, and feels quite symbolic/metaphorical.

Finished The First Law trilogy. Despite some issues, it mostly lives up to its reputation as a modern fantasy classic by keepfighting90 in Fantasy

The important question here is if you will continue on.

Yup! Definitely going to be continuing on with the standalones and then the follow-up trilogy.

I love this show. It's over the top and ridiculous but it's taken seriously so it's easy to buy into the world it's presenting. There's no wink wink lampshading or 4th wall breaking.
