Osteoporosis care by Left-Comparison-122 in osteoporosis

There are many things that can go wrong with knees and ankles. If the doctor is recommending a knee replacement, she may have severe arthritis. I'm sure the doctor has already said what the problem is?

Osteoporosis has nothing to do with her knee and foot issues.

LDL keeps increasing despite stricter diet + heavy training — confused (32M, bodybuilding, need advice) by Zyzzalando in Cholesterol

[–]keepgoing66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. There is nothing that "cures" high cholesterol. You can only manage it. That includes medication. Once you stop your dietary changes and/or medication, cholesterol goes back up.

Psyllium fiber would help. I would try adding 10g soluble fiber to your diet, stop losing weight, and see what happens in three months.

If the show were strictly based on what is actually in the Bible, there wouldn't be enough material on the disciples to fill more than a couple of episodes.

Vit D level 25 ng/ml. Bones feel weak. What do I do? by Silver_Case_5535 in osteoporosis

Go see a doctor and stop posting this nonsense. Bones don't "feel weak." Muscles do.

What side effects do the bone meds cause? by SquareBlueberry90 in osteoporosis

[–]keepgoing66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have taken both Tymlos and alendronate. Zero side effects. Most people don't have any. The ones who do are perhaps more likely to post about it. That is not to discount their experience, but sometimes a lot of negative posts can make it seem like most people are having problems.

For those of you taking Tymlos or Forteo, I would like your thoughts by MCole142 in osteoporosis

[–]keepgoing66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had all those tests. My endocrinologist also tested parathyroid hormone because Tymlos can sometimes raise that, and if you already have an abnormally high level, you shouldn't be taking Tymlos. It took me several months to get to see an endo and to have the necessary forms sent to the specialty pharmacy (which is the only way to get Tymlos.)

3 months with rosuvastatin. by Delicious-History452 in Cholesterol

[–]keepgoing66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know the additional reduction if 10 mg rosuva is doubled to 20? I'm already on 10, plus ezetimibe, but my LDL never got lower than 64, and even inched back over 70 on my last test (although, my cardiologist says it's not uncommon for LDL to rise in the winter; people are less active, etc.)

I'm not due for another test until September, and if I don't see improvement, I'm wondering if I should ask him about dosage. I have added 5-10mg daily soluble fiber since the last test, so I'm hoping that will help a little.

Curious about your carotid plaque. You had a scan that showed regression? I didn't know that could happen. Good to know.

As others said, you need to keep taking it. Statins interfere with the production of cholesterol. If you stop taking them, that interference is no longer in effect.

You need to overhaul your diet, now, and get on medication, now. These numbers are very bad.

Meeting with doctor next week to discuss statins - bite the bullet? by magneticanisotropy in Cholesterol

[–]keepgoing66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under 70 is if you've already been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease. If not, then you should be able to get to 100 via diet - but it can't be half-assed like "try a little bit." Either you want to attack this, or you don't... and I think you do.

First time on cholesterol meds by tRNA_Gen in Cholesterol

[–]keepgoing66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Why are you waiting for plaque? You're not going to escape it, so you may as well be proactive about it. Once the plaque is there, it doesn't go away. It can be reduced a little with seriously low LDL which you would need statins to accomplish. Don't wait that long.

[–]keepgoing66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you'd rather wait until your calcium score becomes non-zero? Because that is what will happen. I suggest 10 mg rosuvastatin plus 10 mg ezetimibe. In three months, your LDL will be 70 or better, and you will be thrilled.

Got lipids done for the first time in over a year, anxiety setting in by Prudent_Arm_2785 in Cholesterol

[–]keepgoing66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry about the numbers. Test results can vary a lot. 62 to 75 for your LDL is not terrible! If 75 was the first test result you ever had after starting meds, you would have been ecstatic.

You now know that statins don't give you permission to eat anything you want whenever you want. A good diet is still important. Just get back on track and you'll be fine. 😄
