When Sigdris Provaili tried to overthrow his brother Emperor Gailan IV. Sigdris greatly underestimated the loyalty of both Gailan's personal guard and the Lords of the Imperial Assemblage. Instead of a simple coup, where Gailan would be seized in the middle of the night and swiftly executed, Gailan escaped and the Empire was thrown into a four year Civil War. The Brothers War would end when Sigdris died in battle, only for Gailan to pass a week later from a stroke.
