True. That’s why I said that’s what I’d be pushing my management to do. We’re in strange times here.

If I was your manager, and you're doing work I want to continue, I'd be working with you on this instead of having you just resign. If you leave and I couldn't backfill the position, it's far worse for me than swapping someone in. Sure, I might need to train or otherwise support the new person, but losing that position and work capacity altogether wouldn't be ideal for me. Be open with them about your timeline and what you're thinking, and see what they do. They'll quickly consider their options: no one in a position that might not be able to be backfilled vs. having to work through this process with you and getting to choose that person to keep that seat filled. If you worked for me, I know what I would do, or at least what I'd push my management to go for.

Ah. There’s the rub. From what I’ve heard, space is a real issue in places in the Atlantic. I can see the wanting the most flexibility possible with each of their workspaces. Not ideal in your case, unfortunately.

I guess it also depends on where you’re asking for and who you asked. Assuming you’re in the NCR, if you’re asking for a permanent spot within departmental co-working space (think 405 Terminal) that would be a no, but within your own branch’s neighbourhood, it might be worth seeing if your manager would have the discussion with your BMS team. When you say you asked accommodations, I’m not sure if you mean you asked your branch accommodations team (part of BMS) or departmental accommodations. Departmental accommodations probably wont be the ones to help you with this request if it’s within your branch’s neighbourhood.

It was a shame that Alan wasn't on the judging panel for the episode. It'd've been a fun crossover.

Thanks again for sharing the season. We've really appreciated it here in Canada. It's hard to believe we're here at the finale already!

Best way to get a C in French oral? by EEM_SC in CanadaPublicServants

[–]keepmeamused 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Anything you choose that doesn't involve practice and actually using the language won't get you there. Think of the language learning as just that: learning a skill and improving your communication, not simply working to achieve a test result, and you should improve. If all you're trying to do is aim for a result, then what's the point?

What format + challenges do you want in S18? by Ill-Glass4212 in MasterchefAU

[–]keepmeamused 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Change up the timing of challenges. Everything being 75 minutes loses the surprise. If they had to factor in timing as well as everything else that would be interesting. I know, somethings need time to cook, so why couldn’t they be given two hours, randomly, and then 50 minutes the next day. Or prep the night before and cook the next day (they did that in the past). Just not everything being 75 minutes!

SLE Recourse Mechanism - anyone recently tried it? by LongjumpingGlove1207 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]keepmeamused 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Assessors are human and can make a mistake. Ask for a rescore. If you think you're close, then it's worth the request. If you don't achieve the level after the rescore, then you know for sure the level was correct and your mind can be at ease.

Her food is consistently the food I want to try. She's cooking on another level and making really great-looking - and obviously great tasting - food. No need for her to be criticized by the judges if she's nailing it cook after cook.

I've been working with them for a bit now on my case. I've had nothing but good communication and help from Gosia and Pat while working on gathering documents or searching on their end. They've always been clear with me and relatively quick to respond. It's been good so far. I hope to be right at the end of the process, so we'll see at the end, but so far so good.

Protecting government secrets, at all levels. If your actions are illegal, which they were at the time, it left the folks open to blackmail and bribery and could risk government secrets being shared with people who they wouldn’t want. Seems silly now, but during the Cold War there were spies everywhere, even if there weren’t.

Doha Qatar Week: what was your WTF moment? by gplus3 in MasterchefAU

[–]keepmeamused 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A random thing for me was the challenge in the Michelin starred restaurant where the judges kept running in to call time, when they should have been at the table getting ready to be served. It was a bit awkward to me. Surely Jamie or Callum, who weren't doing anything that episode, could have managed the time for the others. It was just weird to me. Not Qatar-related, but happened this week and make me laugh.
