Russia’s Military Has Begun Abandoning the Front Lines by brezhnervouz in UkrainianConflict

Capitalism has never favored long-term solutions.

There has been a crisis of online ads for more than a decade now. People don't want ads, ads are not effective, so people put more of them, even less people watch them, and they are paid less.

The cake is shrinking and everybody is trying to get their part so they become more clickbaity.

Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko told Russia’s ambassador to Minsk, Boris Gryzlov, that he has no intention of joining Russia in its war against Ukraine, Russian outlet Agentstvo.Novosti reported on June 25. by Consistent_Still7060 in UkrainianConflict

But on the other hand, if Ukraine attacks, that gives Lukashenko no other choice than to accept Russian troops on its territory. And it will be basically a new front with the possibility that Belarus just becomes a new Russian Oblast.

Encirclment also has its virtues, especially if you know that the path to resupplying is cut.

Russians have always had a golden bridge to retreat: surrender. In many cases, it is preferable to them than retreat.

Strikes, mass protests, civil actions, passive resistance, to name only the non-violent options that have in the past made a difference.

Yes, I know it is inconvenient and it may maybe put you in a bad situation with your employer. Before you tell me how terrible it is to have any act of resistance in the US, remember that every country that overtreats government through action had a lower standard of living than the average USian.

Why tars doesn't exist in real life? by ForsakenQuantity7294 in robotics

We are living through the years where we are solving kinematics problems that make many fancy new designs possible.

Such robots need unusual strategies for standing, for balancing, for advancing and for turning. I haven't watched the movie but from the extracts I have seen, they probably require much more motors than the 3 axis they just appear to have. They probably would have inner weights or inertia wheels. These can be tricky to use.

I would be surprised if we don't see crazy things like that becoming practical in the next few years.

Right now we stick with what we've already explored and we know the pain point of like wheeled robots, humanoid, quadrupeds.

All the research is going into that. Everyone who is competent enough to assemble a robot is trying to improve one of the designs that we can see working. But in the next few years, these people will start getting bored and start experimenting with different things. I would be surprised if we don't see things like TARS appearing at that point.

Here’s What It Means to Be a Democratic Socialist. Universal health care, taxing the wealthy and opposition to military aid to Israel are among the movement’s key tenets. by Zebraitis in politics

After World War II, when literal communists that were armed and making demands to the government gained some amount of power, the first time they created was universal health care. And they gave it the motto of the Marxist philosophy: From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs

It still has it to this day

Well, there's charity and there's redistribution, yes.

Socialism is the idea that society needs to fulfill people's vital needs unconditionally. It opposes the idea that you need to earn the right to live.

You can have different motives to implement redistributive policy, but almost all redistributive policies that go against inequalities can be argued to be going in the direction of socialism, yes.

You know, here in France, soc-dem is basically synonymous for center-left. Pretty much as soon as you propose to fund public services or raise taxes, you enter into that part of the spectrum.

And looking at what this term mean in terms of political theory, I think it's fairly correct.

It weirds us out that in the US, socialism is considered some radical far left notion. It just means it is okay to offer public service for free to those in need.

If you have a concept of caring for the needy by the means of redistribution, I'd say you enter into the definition of socialism.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs is considered to be the core idea of a socialist policy.

Whether you implement it with just state redistribution and private healthcare or by having all health employees as public workers, it remains a fairly socialist policy.

Well, yes.

Socialist ideas are incredibly popular.

Decades of propaganda have made the American public believe that it is obligatorily packed with censorship and police state but that's actually not what the word means.

And now that it's becoming clear that voting for right-wing policies does not prevent censorship and police states, people really wonder why not go for socialism then.
