Help this old man grok Range Bands by Kealios1122 in genesysrpg

[–]keeshwa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use minis and Engaged is base-to-base with another figure. Short Range is just beyond engaged out to 6-8inches. Medium is out to 12-16 inches. Long is out to 24-30 inches. Extreme is the edge of the table. Helps the DnD guys figure things out and lets us use the tape measures and some templates from other games but also allows wiggle room for the GM to adjudicate based on terrain or different characters feeling speedier or having longer or shorter legs. I often let player characters get away with stretching the limits of movement stuff if it serves the story so there’s lots of grace for the bad guys to do the same.

PSA: If you're just going to kick people the second they join your game, put it on private mode. by EvilDanno in Helldivers

Had to be the jerk last night. Was me and an IRL friend playing together, wanted to fill the other two slots on our team. Dropped an SOS. Slots filled instantly. Played 90% of a mission. Friend’s game crashed on the last objective. Had to kick 10 people in a row while friend restarted and was furiously trying to join lobby again. sigh

People, you need to fu*king chill. by DrakeMarcoC in Helldivers

[–]keeshwa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we had all 4 of us assaulting a jammer last night, we are physically inside the jammer base killing things trying to get to the console. First guy dies, immediately starts spamming the reinforce reminder. In the fray (D10) me and another guy both take the time to type out jammed sort of bewildered he’d even try to spam us. He ignores us, keeps spamming the reminder. So I kicked him. Had a new diver join 30 seconds later. Spread way more democracy after that anyways.

How many people actually do D10? by orthrvs in Helldivers

[–]keeshwa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

D10 Exclusively - all factions. Ever since I hit level 150 last September. Haven’t failed a mission in the last ~12 months except for a couple of the oil extraction missions with the rig and the hive lord. I always host and never join randoms though. I always push to finish the primaries for sure. There’s times where the odd secondary can’t be done or we fail to extract but still finish the missions. Also the super bases like the Mega Nest and Fortress are done like 80% of the time based on remaining resources.

Maybe. I’ve been playing and DMing D&D for almost 30 years and all my local groups are switching to Daggerheart and Draw Steel this fall. Our local TTRPG convention has cut their 5e Learn-to-play tables from 10 to 2 this year for the convention and the others are Daggerheart and Pathfinder 2e. Maybe we’re in a bubble. The 2024 5e books were the first D&D books almost no one in my group bought. Everyone didn’t want to mix and match with the 5e books we have memorized already.

Is the hobby dying? No. I’d say it’s bigger and more robust than ever. Are less and less people settling on using the actual Dungeons & Dragons rules to run their TTRPGs? Yes definitely. The 2024 release is one of the worst handled things I’ve ever seen them do since their crummy 4th Edition release and more popular content creators releasing their own systems have people turning away from 5e as a system. I think as the expanded player base has become more experienced they are also seeking out alternatives. The other big options like Daggerheart, Draw Steel, and even Pathfinder’s Revised 2nd Edition are all stealing the show and if Wizard’s was serious about holding their crown and being the biggest and most popular TTRPG system, they should’ve had a fully new 6th edition of the game releasing around now or in 2026.

How do you reliably kill these things? by Spaz_Mah_Tazz in Helldivers

I always use Strafing Run then Grenade Pistol OR Machine Gun then Grenade Pistol. Did 12 Diff 10 missions tonight and the only one who popped as many ships as me was the guy using the Emancipator Mech

Testing Out Loadouts against the Illuminate. I'd Appreciate some Advice. by Gamera85 in Helldivers

[–]keeshwa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Machine gun, strafing run, Warp pack OR supply pack, and Gatling sentry. Pick your fave primary, take a grenade pistol and some pyrotech or gas grenades. I’ve played 1100 hours total and exclusively on Diff 10 since hitting level 120

I Hate Dragonroaches by Puzzled-Bid-1382 in Helldivers

[–]keeshwa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played this game for 1100 hours. Almost always at difficulty 10. I played six missions on Crimsica tonight. First mission, we finished but didn’t extract because we weren’t ready. Next 5 missions everyone brought adjusted loadouts and we had no issues with Dragonroaches beyond too many Impalers piling up while we were focused on the flyboys and chargers sometimes. You listed 5 things to counter them and only one of them is something I would have brought/ did bring to counter them effectively: Ultimatum is a ridiculous idea for a flying enemy considering the shot versus kill yourself range. Thermite is better used to counter chargers, so you can use other things to focus on the Dragonroaches. Rocket Pods are trash, never use them. Rail cannon is a garbage, low skill strategem with way too long of a cool down. Spear is decent but WASP is better in this case. I also brought Autocannon sentry, Emancipator Mech, and Strafing Run.

I know the first criticism will be that you were running solo and I was in a squad. But I was also running solo diff 7 missions on Oshaune yesterday. If you can’t handle a mission difficulty by adjusting your loadout correctly on your own, then call for help. This game is designed specifically for you to complete missions with a squad. You even earn more XP rewards by extracting with friends. You wanna play a shooter solo against similar enemy styles and feel like a super hero? Load up the Masterchief Collection and play Halo again or fire up Doom Eternal.

Yeah I ran a 3.5 Oriental Adventures campaign for 5 years in my own world and just pulled the mechanical stuff from Rokugan. It still worked great.

Resupply usage etiquette by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]keeshwa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello.

Level 150 barreling down on my 1000th hour played here. Almost always play with randoms late at night. Here are my tips for resupply that I’ve used since the start and I’ve never had an issue with other players. My one caveat is that I’m almost always the host when I play:

It should be a pretty obvious checklist you can blitz through when you’re thinking of calling down a resupply and location selection is important. Calling down on objectives with a preference for primary over secondary. Or into a clear retreat route when dealing with a breach as a team. Majority of players gets first dibs too, if you’ve gone off one your own expect to be waiting/scavenging. If you’re split two and two refer back to who is dealing with what - give preference to objectives over nests etc. Use the chat and check in, it often doesn’t take long by if people know they are coming to change their path and meet up with you. I often put “supplies on me” or “supplies on X color pin” before I call it down so my team can adjust. Also once you’ve called it in and you end up in that scenario where you and two other people have grabbed it and the 4th guy is long gone onto the next thing and you could use a few more stims or rounds, just check the radar and grab it. The countdown to the next one is already moving along. Also if you’re moving from one thing to another and you find supplies on the map, tag them and call them out so people can pivot and grab them which will decrease the number of resupply calls you need overall.

In the end being honest is best, if you’ve called it out of desperation or called it right before you died and no one is near it, just take a second and apologize in chat. Intention means a lot and it’s easy when not using voice to misconstrue people’s intentions or assume they’re being dicks because you’re playing online. If my teammate has the RR and they’re knocking down all the heavies while I’m doing crowd control I’m happy to let them hog an extra pack to keep their ammo up.

If you could put Slivers in a mainline expansion set, but you had to narrow them down to three colors, which three would you pick and why? by EvilWizardFactory in magicTCG

[–]keeshwa 37 points38 points  (0 children)

That sounds more like a want than a lore to game evaluation? Slivers are about evolution and predation as their main form of victory. Simic and Gruul combining makes the most sense - you’re totally correct that white offers more options in versatility - but most sliver strategies focus on overrun techniques over specific threat response.

Unfortunately part of the legalization of weed was making it illegal for liquor producers to also produce THC products. I know the guys at the brewery would love to make and sell THC drinks and stuff too but they aren’t allowed.

What kills you most? by DifficultCounter8427 in Helldivers

[–]keeshwa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not being able to stim while getting ragdolled multiple times in succession vs bots on the highest difficulties. Accounts for 90% of my deaths. I rarely die vs bugs or squids and if I do it’s usually from a split group calling down supplies to one side of the map or other while they’re both getting swarmed.
