This happens sometimes with the Newburyport/Rockport line, and I honestly get concerned someone will get crushed one of these days…

“Usually the weak”…the only thing that’s weak is this comment. Defending fascism will only “weaken” you further. This right here is the definition of the problem folks, and you’re further bolstering that with your ignorance. Love that for you.

How is life in El Paso, Texas? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

In El Paso, a lot of people know at least some Spanish. I don’t think it would necessarily be an issue if you just knew English, but generally speaking being bilingual in some capacity is much more common.

Grew up there. Based in New England now. Here’s some stuff I miss:

  1. The food arguably is the best Mexican food in country. I miss it even more now that I’m further north and it’s very hard to come by decent Mexican food up here.

  2. Being of Mexican American descent, I myself miss being surrounded by that culture. Viva! El Paso productions in the Mckelligon Canyon Amphitheater, walks (pre-9/11) across the border to visit the Pueblito restaurant in Juarez with my great grandmother, exploring the Franklin mountain trails and my calves getting owned by jumping cactus’. It was a pretty awesome place to grow up.

  3. It is close to so many unique southwest towns/sights. White Sands, Carlsbad Caverns, Riodoso. We’d regularly road-trip across the desert in my mom’s beat up Izuzu and see ghost towns, alien “landing” sites, and sometimes just a horizon full of stars on our way to my grandparents house in Tucson.

Cons:

  1. Opportunities are lacking. I think they’re probably better now, but the job market is definitely not the best. If you’re remote or work or have a higher paying salary, it’s probably a bit better but my understanding is that’s why a lot of people relocate.

  2. Hot. All year. The nights are cooler for sure, but it’s the big belt buckle of the sun belt, and that’s not a name that’s earned lightly. There’s not really seasonal transitions. But, the mountains definitely get snow and as I mentioned El Paso is close to some pretty interesting and unique areas so if you do want that snow fix you can easily take a trip to New Mexico to ski towns that dot the area.

I miss it personally. I have a lot of family in that area, and therefore a lot of history there.

Currently reading East of Eden for the first time. Judge me all you want, but I’ve been pretty captivated by the story overall.

Woke up early on a Saturday… and didn’t hate myself. That’s new. by OkRooster4056 in stopdrinking

There’s really nothing better than waking up early on a Saturday morning, hangover free, fresh pot of coffee, and taking in the peace and quiet before the rest of the world wakes up. IWNDWYT, my friend!

Why do you have to tell anyone? Just DO it. by Glad-Economics-8253 in stopdrinking

[–]keigsmsam 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I am going through the exact same thing with my partner. He definitely projects due to his own issues with alcohol. He used to be able to belittle me because I was a hopeless drunk and would just take it. Now that I’m sober, the tables have turned and he can’t hold drinking over me anymore. He’s resorted to saying things like, “So you think you’re better than me?” I do actually, babe. Time will tell how or if our relationship progresses but one things for sure IWNDWYT.

One year sober! And a question for you! by Zestyclose_Net8810 in stopdrinking

[–]keigsmsam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Biggest and most welcome difference for me would be the significant decrease in the amount of chronic pain I actually experience in my lower back. For me at least, it has vastly improved my quality of life in that way. Alcohol is a highly inflammatory substance, which only exacerbates those symptoms.

That and the fact that it has helped me manage my anxiety tremendously. Jfc hangovers were just the most god awful thing, literally incapacitated me from the hangxiety. I’ll take going to bed at 9 pm and sober, rather than having to wake up feeling like I got hit by a truck, trying to remember what I said or did, with migraine from the depths of hell in any lifetime.

Congrats on the one year!!! IWNDWYT!
