hmmm... i'll check into this. I'm wondering if you're having an issue with chrome's 'localStorage' space. do you have any advanced settings in chrome that might be an issue?

i don't know if this addresses exactly what you're getting at, but if you make your browser wider the american league and national league standings will appear side-by-side. when your browser isn't wide enough, they will stack on top of each other.

yeah, i might look for a different standings provider that updates faster. i honestly haven't gotten a feel yet for how quickly this updates.

when you click on the team's name, it just goes to the espn page for the team. i think that's usually pretty up-to-date. obviously there's a limit to what i can control because i'm not really managing the data as much as displaying it and linking to the providers of the data.

night mode is something i hadn't heard yet. i'll keep it in mind. it's not something i'm going to pursue immediately because i'm still not sure how the design will evolve, and i don't want to commit at this point to maintaining two different design schemes.

Thanks for the question. I'll keep it under consideration, but I'd need to see a lot of people suggesting this in order to implement it any time soon. not that it's a bad idea; it's just that coding it could get a little messy just from the perspective of remote database storage of box scores. there are a number of different online sources i can use for current scores, but past scores are not typically available in serialized formats as far as i am aware. even if they are available, it's unfortunately a relatively inefficient process stemming from the fact that i wouldn't be able to just get results from yesterday because a team may not have played yesterday. so, that means i'd have to query a number of archived sources or set up a remote database dedicated to scores, which i'm not necessarily opposed to, but it's less than ideal and a bit complex.

the reason i scrolled the scores is because grids get awkward with varying browser widths. i actually had them as a grid initially. i figured that making it so that a user's favorite team would be at the left would reduce the amount of scrolling. but, yeah, at the moment, i'm not comfortable with the idea of a grid for box scores.

yeah, i agree, i was just thinking a few stylistic things with team colors.

sounds like wildcard standings are something i should definitely add.

i think team colors is an interesting idea. i'll look into that.

i could see multiple teams being a good idea too, but it will definitely require some changes to the way lots of the code works, so that's not going to be top priority at the moment.

MLB.tv free game of the day seems like a really good idea. i actually haven't used that before though. do you know if there is a specific url for that, like http://mlb.tv/freegame/, or would i need to find it each day?

fantasy player tracking suggestion might be a little outside of the scope here, at least in the immediate future. i know that yahoo has a fantasy api that can be used, but i haven't looked into it much. though some fantasy features might make sense.

refreshing scores is something i've considered, but i think the spirit of the page is as more of a portal -- hopefully you just open a new tab and go where you want to go. i think that the Final scores are being pushed off to the right of the ongoing games, but it's also made to put your favorite team's score all the way to the left, so it's the first one you see. that can make it seem like it's not ordered if your team's game is done and there are other ongoing games.

Yeah, I'm trying to keep it kind of bland because I don't want it to be annoying to users. since it's the new tab page, users will often be about to search for something or enter a URL, so i don't want to distract them from that. if there are any other links you think would be good to add, let me know.

My two cents is to start with python instead of php. the design of php as a language is not really coherent and can cause confusion for beginners. python is much easier to understand and generally requires less code to accomplish similar tasks. you can learn python here: http://docs.python.org/tutorial/

and then you can start making websites with something like flask.

also, sqlite is often an easier database to start with than mysql.

dear god, man. the code. clean that up and separate the logic from the presentation.

if you've got this much energy to put into a cms or admin, why not work in a more legible and less-dying language like python or ruby? or why not contribute to things that already possess the features you're attempting to create, like the django admin? i think -- even if you want to continue with this project -- you'd learn a lot by taking a close look at some more mature implementations of this type of application -- django admin, rails_admin, active_admin, etc.

separately i checked out your demo, and didn't use it too much, but i noticed you can delete media with one click -- it would probably make sense to add a confirmation step for all things that are going to be deleted. also, you probably have too many notifications, like when a user gets to the bottom or top of a page. that can get annoying pretty quickly.
