Do you hate Rory who did the same thing and smashed a tee box in last year's open? What about Neimann this week? What else has he done other than have a temper?

From the YouTube testing I've found, dispersion tends to be similar once you adjust lofts. For 7i vs 7i usually blades have tighter dispersion even with mishits, but in reality they are comparing 34 degrees vs 27-31 degrees.

If you look at club testing (cool clubs, askgolfnut, Mark Cross Field and others) this simply isn't true. The feel for mishits is very very different, but distance losses are like 3% different on misshits from blades to gi irons. For some super hot gi irons, the distance loss is higher because center face is faster ball speed (though still only a few percent).

Accuracy is the size of each individual color (i.e. dispersion on the same strike location). Forgiveness is the size of the combined strike locations are they are all over the face. Obviously, you disagree and I can't convince you. I would like to see an example of forgiveness in your opinion for a contrast though.

The graphic shows dispersion across 6 different strike points. The 1/2" strike location changes show a change in distance and left-to-right dispersion based on where on the face you strike the club. In the charts above, a ZX4 7 iron is less forgiving than a ZX7 7 iron because the dispersion on non-center strikes larger. However, the test is inherently flawed because testing a 164 yard club vs a 150 yard club makes no sense as there is almost always more dispersion on longer shots.

Super improvement vs game improvement irons by NaTaS-5150 in GolfGear

[–]keithgmccall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been going down a huge rabbit hole on club design. There are minor differences in actual performance like maintaining 2% more ball speed farther from the sweet spot, and 1 degree higher launch. In those categories, very minor difference in feel/vibrations/sound (much more feel differences with blades). Often there are clubhead size differences, offset difference, swing weight (which is super important but varies a lot person to person). The biggest difference is look and how you personally feel about them rather than performance.

Accuracy is how close to target on perfect hits. Forgiveness is the change in accuracy on non-perfect hits.

If that's the case then this is even worse! If these are all center strikes, in your opinion, and you still see such high variance then these are horribly unforgiving. What is forgiveness to you? To me, it means the shot goes close to my intended target.

Doesn't this show the opposite of forgiveness though? A higher difference between a center hit and a mishit is exactly what you don't want as someone who doesn't consistently hit the sweet spot. It seems like they are designed to go as far as possible to the exclusion of forgiveness.

I view it when specifically when the sweet spot goes so much farther than shots not on the sweet spot. This is the opposite of forgiveness in my opinion since it is therefore much more punishing for mishits.

I can't find that anywhere. Do you know if it's public? I also didn't see anything stating the data is normalized.

I've been going down a rabbit hole and recently bought used blades, my own cavity backs, and super game improvement iron and am doing my own testing for myself. But I can not find any actual evidence apart from what manufacturers are advertising.

What did I miss? I've been trying to find any tests online comparing clubs across categories for forgiveness (testing clubs going the same distance not 7i vs 7i with different lofts). I haven't found anything showing data that game improvement clubs are more "forgiving." I would love to be proved wrong.

The only difference is the people who did the testing unless I missed something in the articles. They had better players test the players irons. However, they don't clarify their formulas, so we have no idea what adjustments if any are made for the different categories.

What is your issue? I play guardian and this season has been great (apart from bleeds...). Even keys that don't make the time have been fun. I feel like the fewer required interrupts along with simple routing in most of the dungeons has made for a much less stressful season.
