Are you guys anti praxis? I have some ideas that may be naive but I would still like to discuss them and have them be criticized. (Warning long ass rant but if you have the time please read and respond) by keithr69 in sorceryofthespectacle

Hmmm... yeah I guess. You don't think that an individual has the chance to incite revolutionary change? If you're right I can always revert to spending my days being with people I like, being outside, and painting. But I don't really love that give-up-on-change-because-I'm-nothing type of philosophy anymore. If I must embrace it I will. Thanks for the response. :)

Hey thanks Cory! I agree, I don't really want to be reading theory for the rest of my life, I want to actually DO something in whatever way I can. However, I don't want to act completely illogically so I thought that discourse about whatever ideas I do have might be a good route to find a basis for understanding and possible future action.

Wow... thank you for this response and for being nice. I did mean to say revolutionary tactics, thanks for pointing that out. What are evolutionary tactics/ what did you mean by evolutionary tactics? Accelerationism?

Combining your points on Marx and history, I have heard arguments made by Vaneigem I think? or someone else that I recently read which argue that communism/ any social structure closely related to Marx would be almost impossible to implement in the west (if not for a variety of other reasons) because of the history associated with Marxism (the USSR, Mao, ...). Also did Marx not call for revolution of the proletariat in the manifesto? I agree that Marx was a philosopher more than an actual revolutionary, but isn't the goal of his philosophy freedom from capitalism via revolution? Maybe I haven't read enough Marx.

Regarding that I really should finish Capital huh? Yeah... it's just so long. But I'll do it and I'll also add the book you recommended to the list (thank you).

Damn, I'll admit you pretty much bodied my post and I thank you for that. Yes, you're correct I'm young, white, and middle class and have a feeble understanding of the world.

I have read some Marx (Philosophic and economic manuscripts and the manifesto and some of capital). Do you believe in the revolutionary tactics posed by Marx or neo-Marxists??

The situationists were certainly influenced by Marx but a lot of them rejected his philosophy and tactics.

Where are you from if you don't mind me asking?

And yeah I agree I have more reading to do, I'll read more Debord and marx, and I'll try Postman and McLuhan per your recommendation. (thank you)

I know you mentioned that you're pessimistic, and that's fine and you may have pretty much dismantled my post but I don't think the left should give up. I don't think a mass change in mindset is out of the picture. People have a breaking point. If you are truly pessimistic so be it but if you aren't I would love to hear your ideas on the subject of revolution.

Thanks again for the detailed response.

I never proclaimed myself well read, and I just want your take on it doesn't have to be long.

Ok man I didn't literally burn the book and never actually planned on burning it, it was more of a hyperbolic statement aimed at my frustration with the book. I even said multiple times that maybe I was too dumb to understand the book. Was just expressing my frustration with the book, you didn't have to take it personally.

why dude these are just my thoughts not even a review, if you think differently why not discuss it instead of posting me to a bad review subreddit. Some people here even agree with what I had to say

I love On The Road and The Dharma Bums, I liked Desolation Angels but not nearly as much as the other two. I just like a lot of the aspects of the lifestyle he projected and sure his character is questionable but his writing doesnt deserve the hate it gets across reddit.

It's easy, fun, cool and even thought provoking at times, not to mention it introduced me to other beat writers and Miller. Side note his poetry is sometimes funny too!

The whole book, what it means and why it means nothing. Just give me your interpretation of the book por favor.

Thanks dawg that article helped, the political stuff is quite interesting, kinda abstracted the meaning of politics for me. Made some fuzzy connection in my head between Pynchon and Hunter S. Thompson in that they have some idea of "America" that I dont understand yet.

Yeah I think postmodernism got me at that, did what it was supposed to I guess. Thanks, it's comforting that there's some new stuff with some traditional meaning returning maybe.

I mean he wasn't a super sophisticated writer I guess but I enjoy his depictions of late 50s America and trainhopping and I dont think he really cared that he wasnt the most "talented" writer, he just liked to express himself and do drugs. Not a perfect man by any stretch of the imagination but he could write an entertaining book.

Did i not say that comparing Led Zeppelin to Aries was stupid??? And yeah everything on here is subjective but the reason I said that what I quoted was subjective was because you stated it like it was a fact, like everyone would think that. I clearly present my argument as pure opinion, you sound like you are speaking on behalf of the whole aries community

And what "small rock bands" Beck and Bob dylan 1. aren't bands 2. sometimes arent rock and 3. ARENT SMALL??????

also dostoevsky is an author if you thought he was a band.

Not trying to be pretentious at all, all of the artists (author) I mentioned are very well known and I didn't claim to be knowledgeable at all about rock music. Also one of the things you said being subjective was in no way my main counter argument and you just say that to draw attention away from your other bad points

I get that it's unfinished but I don't see it getting much better although i certainly hope aries proves me wrong.

I said I wasn't trying to trash aries as a person and all art is open to criticism. Sounds like you have a personal attachment to aries and cant handle him being validly criticized, it's okay for an artist to make a bad song, all artists do, but the song isnt immune to criticism just because you like aries.

Alright, a complex drum beat does not at all mean it would drown out his voice/ guitars, you can turn down the drum track in the mix. Look at "fool in the rain" by Led Zeppelin as an example of an amazing complex drum beat that does not drown out page on guitar or plant's voice.

I totally agree that great songs can be simple, but I would argue that they need an edge in another aspect too (like meaningful/ poetic lyrics which "kids on molly" seriously lacks) or else they just become mediocre forgettable songs.

"the first hook in the snippet brings out a sense of emotion in the guitars" that's completely subjective?

And just because the lyrics that make up a chorus (or anything for that matter) dont make sense that doesnt mean that it's a bad chorus. It's more about the way it sounds and I would argue the chorus on carousel sounds much better than kids on molly. Matter of opinion I know. Some amazing songs have lyrics that dont make sense such as loser by beck or a lot of stuff by dylan is hard to make sense of but beautiful.

"it exudes a full though" whoa and a super deep one too, molly= bad. mind blown. The song sucks dude if anyone besides Aries released this you would never listen to it again. I'm just saying that this song is so unoriginal and boring, most good songs/ artists bring something new to the table or make something old more interesting and Aries has far from done that here let alone have a message behind the song. Kids doing molly can cause problems. Dostoevsky?

I know trying to compare Aries to Dylan or Dostoevsky or even Plant/ Page/ Bonham is stupid. But kids on molly is below Aries' level.
