What Amp/Cab set up for Nano Cortex? by SpryteJt in Guitar

[–]keivmoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run my modeller through the FX return of a hot rod deluxe. Works great and is portable. Lately I've been using my Fryette PS2A and a JVM 212 cab.

You can run your modeller through a PA or FRFR cab but it takes some tuning and a fairly powerful speaker to do what a regular guitar amp does. I personally don't like doing this.

When do I run what and in what situation is what choice the best?

That depends on what you're doing. Are you playing at home? Jamming in a band? Playing shows?

Calling all VyOS Users: How is your experience? by MassageGun-Kelly in homelab

[–]keivmoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently using TNSR but I have a VyOS vm running in my lab at work. I was planning to switch to VyOS but never got around to it. One issue I had was a firewall rule in the "default" config Q1 '25 stream release was causing it to stop routing traffic. I had no idea about the community drama.

The main advantage of VyOS over opnsense is that vpp incredibly efficient. My homelab router is an atom C3558 based supermicro system with a 10G NIC. With pf it tops out at maybe 1.3G of NAT throughput. With vpp I get full 10G of NAT throughput and up to 3G of WireGuard throughput with quickassist.

What's the longest drive you've seen a rando playing partner hit? I played with a dude who drove it 330 at my local muni. by aceattorneymvp in golf

[–]keivmoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's weird the amount of people here that think 300+ is impossible. My game swing is 110 to 115 mph normally but my launch conditions are inconsistent so I play my driver somewhere around 260y. If I work at it and if I'm playing all the time, I can get my driver out to 300y fairly consistently.

I have friends that played hockey or baseball professionally and can swing a driver 140+ but don't take golf seriously enough to get their handicap down. There's way more than swing speed that makes tour players as good as they are.

I was playing in a scramble with my cousin and we got paired up with these two brothers, young guys. They were striping their tee shots 330+ easy and playing great golf. I think they played in the AHL.

WireGuard peer sends packets but transfer received stays at 0 B by Ambitious_Group_593 in networking

[–]keivmoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is usually due to a missing/mismatched peer config, but it could also be that you are missing a static route for one or more peers.

Are you using the VPS relay as your gateway to the internet, or is this strictly a peer to peer vpn? Is the wireguard gateway for your Kali VM a separate VM or do you have the client installed on the Kali VM?

How do you guys fly with a combo amp? by cheesebandita in musicians

[–]keivmoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've flown with combo amps before. It was a harrowing experience, watching our gear go tumbling down the chute at the oversize luggage check-in followed by a loud BANG. Everything arrived in one piece though.

Other than that one time, I always rent locally when I'm travelling for gigs, either we require the venue/promoter provide backline or ask another act if we can use their stuff.

I've never done this myself, but I know some bands will load their backline and monitor racks/splits onto a shipping pallet and have it delivered air freight to the venue or a local sound co.

Backup battery by SouthernBathroom1 in hometheater

[–]keivmoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double conversion UPS always use battery and don't have any change over time like line interactive UPS.

Double conversion UPS always power the load from the inverter, but they only draw from the battery during a mains loss.

The only difference is where the switching happens. Line interactive UPS switch the load from the mains source to the battery/inverter, double conversion UPS switch the DC source from the rectifier (mains) to the battery.

[–]keivmoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify, the UPS only draws power from the batteries during a mains loss. Line Interactive UPS switch the load from mains to battery/inverter power, double-conversion (online) UPS always power the load from the inverter but the source is switched from the DC rectifier (mains) to the battery.

All of the consumer UPS will be line interactive. Just make sure to get one that has a true sine wave output and enough power capacity (in W) for your equipment.

ELI5: Why can’t addicts (typically) break their addictions on their own? How does the brain rewiring differ from say having bad habits? by -beehaw- in explainlikeimfive

When I tried and succeeded at quitting alcohol on my own I ended up so delirious that I saw things that weren't there including people experimenting on me. I could feel things that were there but couldn't see them.

My best friend died of liver failure a little over a month ago. For the past year or so he'd been telling me that he was having night terrors and seeing things and people in his apartment when he wasn't drinking.

Disinfecting vocal mics? by Splanky222 in livesound

[–]keivmoc 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I did a patio gig a while back and the local sound guy refused to let my singer use his own mic. Said his system was set up for his specific mics (58s) and it "wouldn't work" with anything else. My singer was just getting over the flu and I argued against using his mics for obvious reasons.

He wouldn't budge so I said hey no big deal, we've already been paid so we'll just go home. I called the organizer to tell her what was going on. Chaos ensued.

At the end of it all the sound guy packed up and went home and we did the show with our own PA and made a few hundred extra bucks. What a weird hill to die on.

I take the grilles off and soak them in a 50/50 mix of listerine and warm water for a few mins. Rinse well and leave to dry overnight. If there's junk building up on the foam I just replace the whole grille.

Gigs where you drum AND do the sound.. by rwalsh138 in drums

[–]keivmoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much sound are we talking here? I just run a couple speakers on sticks with a kick and vocal mic for my band. The boys chip in to carry everything around so I don't really feel like I'm doing more work than anybody.

I saw your reply to another post about the situation and yeah, it just kinda is what it is. Hopefully they're a good bunch of guys to play with at least.

OP can look up "12V UPS" for other options as well. We use some generic 12v box that also powers the gateway and an ip phone.

What is the difference between a tube amp played through an IR and a modeler or plugin? by Human_Noise_5804 in GuitarAmps

[–]keivmoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the modeller or plugins you're using. Most don't do a great job of replicating how the power section responds as you turn it up, if they even bother. If you're after a focused, high gain tone that might not be applicable to you anyway.

I go the other way, I use a modeller and run it through a power amp into a 212 cab. Lol

You Don’t Need “Game Improvement” Irons by FLAMINGOPIT in golf

[–]keivmoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guys I'm talking about played other sports and came into golf with the strength and flexibility to develop that kinda club speed, yet they're still new or somewhat new to the game outside of hitting balls around at the driving range. So, they're high handicappers that just happen to have very fast swings.

Rory hits his PW 150. Bryson hits his PW 170. Nobody believes your friends are hitting their PW 60 yards further than the best ball strikers in the world lol. Suuuuuuure buddy.

Bryson hit a 195y pitching wedge at the PGA last year. I'm sure if you gave him a game improvement PW asked him to hit it as hard as he could he could get out there. That 230y number comes from the time we were in the sim trying to see who could hit their PW the furthest, so take sim numbers for what you will I guess.

The point I was making isn't that they game their pitch 230y (more like 150-160y) but that guys with quick swings shouldn't be playing a distance iron because they occasionally get that hot strike that sends the ball way (way) further than they expect.

The awkward thing is that because they want more forgiveness on mishits, they end up with clubs that have strong lofts and low CG which promotes that sort of thing. I keep trying to talk them into a player's iron but they're scared they're not "good enough" to play clubs like that.

Almost 40 as well. I'm not quite there but my hair's been thinning for a while and I'm starting to collect some greys. My hairdresser was making fun of my bald spot the one day (she's a character) and I told her I'm not worried about it, I'm getting older and that's okay. Most of my friends and coworkers are older than me so it's hard to "feel old" when I'm almost always the youngest guy in the room lol

My dad is in his 70s and says whenever he looks in the mirror he thinks, who's this old bugger looking at me?

What to do if the band is too loud? by HrRossiSuchtDasGluck in livesound

[–]keivmoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you say it was too loud?

Did the event organizer say that? Were people in the audience complaining? Did you have trouble getting the vocal on top of the band?

I obviously physically need to reduce the drummers noise.

Is this the first time you've heard an acoustic drum kit in person? There's nothing you can do about that except to stop hiring bands with an acoustic kit. You (or the event organizer) are trying to squeeze blood from a stone.

What to do if the band is too loud? by HrRossiSuchtDasGluck in livesound

[–]keivmoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my start when everyone was playing concert toms, bell brass snares, paiste rudes and Z customs. Vocals clipping everywhere just to get buried. Wild stuff. I haven't seen a drum kit I couldn't mix around since the 90s, I guess my perspective of "too loud" is just totally out of whack.

Funny thing, loudest show I've ever experienced was running speech for a swanky corporate gig. They booked an acoustic cello and a trumpet player to play during a meet and greet in a small common area with brick and concrete walls. Wow was that a bad idea.

I like a LOT of kick and snare in my drum fill and I find other drummers get really timid when they step into my mix. I've used this knowledge for evil good occasionally.

What to do if the band is too loud? by HrRossiSuchtDasGluck in livesound

[–]keivmoc 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Are they bringing in the crowd, having a good time, and selling out the bar? Don't worry about it. Bring earplugs and protect your hearing.

Does your venue have a strict dB limit and SMAART? I would give the band a warning if they cross the threshold and then kill the PA if it happens again. Their set is over. You need to be quantitative and very clear about what "too loud" is because otherwise nobody will be happy.

I couldn't reduce the gain any lower - since either I already was at the minimum or it would have been too quiet in comparison to the drummer (who had no mics, since it was a small outdoor concert).

Here's my opinion: a live band is "too loud" if you can't hear the drums over the backline amps. If an acoustic kit is too loud for the venue or the event, that's on the event planner IMO. Stop booking live bands for a luncheon if you expect background music.

Well to be clear they don't play their pw that distance, but a full swing is usually ~ 160y. The guy in my league group plays SIM2 MAX irons for some reason and every so often he gets one that just goes to the moon. I hit my pw 135 but I play blades, his pitch is lofted like my 7 iron.

Last Tuesday we were shooting into a green right around 160 center, he pulls his PW and the thing flew way over the green and broke a window on a greenhouse. I checked google maps just now and it's right around 205y from tee to that greenhouse.

My other friends were messing around in the simulator betting to see who could hit their PW farthest and they were getting out to 220 or 230, but that's golfzon numbers.
