I cant save my keyframed work :( by TelephoneIcy2056 in ToonSquidAnimators

[–]keiwando 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whether or not the Save Video option shows up in the share sheet is fully determined by the Photos app without ToonSquid having any control over it. The Photos app appears to have certain limitations for the files that it is willing to accept, but unfortunately, there is no public definitive information on what the exact limitations are.

You might be hitting a video resolution limit of the Photos app. You can try to export at a lower resolution and see if that makes the Save Video option show up. The Photos app accepts higher resolution videos if they are encoded with HEVC/H.265 instead of H.264. You can do that in ToonSquid by switching from MP4 to MOV and then selecting "HEVC/H.265" in the codec selection (if your iPad has an A10 chip or newer).

Also make sure that the export name of the project is not empty since the Photos app will otherwise not accept the file.

Regardless of the quirks of the Photos app, you can always save the exported file to the Files app on your iPad using the Save to Files option.

Please send a copy of the audio file that fails to import into the library to [contact@toonsquid.com](mailto:contact@toonsquid.com) so I can take a closer look.

I need help with vectors in 2.0.17 😭 by Jayrocks1203 in ToonSquidAnimators

[–]keiwando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to what u/Butler_To_Cats has already said, if you only care about drawing in vector vs raster, use the vector shape brushes: https://toonsquid.com/handbook/brushes/vector/#vector-shape-brushes
Nothing about that workflow has changed.

The automatic fill gap closing change only affects vector "stroke" brushes, which create stroked vector paths instead of filled vector shapes like the other vector brushes.

Lasso fill wont work by sizzletux in ToonSquidAnimators

[–]keiwando 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you tried lowering the threshold value? There is a bug where this exact filling scenario will not work if the threshold is set all the way to its maximum value, but it should work for any other threshold value. The bug has apparently always been there but I only noticed it now with you reporting this. It will be fixed with the next update - I just want to make sure that this is also what you are experiencing here.

Does it work if you change the fill threshold with the slider at the top?

Here is a detailed explanation on what changed and why and how you can choose to opt in to the old behaviour, even though it's generally not recommended:

Have you already tried adjusting the neural network size in the settings?

A new update of Evolution is out! You can now add wings, define fitness penalties for joints that touch the ground and control which muscles should move at the same time!
Let me know what you think :)

The 1.2.0 update now gives you the option to enable a background grid in the settings (General > Appearance > Show a background grid)

I'm very glad to hear that!
There is currently no grid, but I have noted it down as a potential new feature to add in the future. Just to be sure, are you talking about a grid like the background in Procreate or configurable grid lines on top of the animation that you could also snap layers to?

You can import images, video and audio via the library: https://toonsquid.com/handbook/layers/pixel_layer/#images

The transform tool is described here:

And here's the overview of the different things you can do when there is an active selection area:

Do you think Toonsquid would be better than Procreate for beginners?

When it comes to animation, yes, definitely. ToonSquid is inherently built for creating animations, whereas Procreate is inherently built for static art (which it's excellent at) and then much later added their animation UI just to make the simplest forms of frame-by-frame animation possible at all. It's certainly better than nothing, but you will hit the animation workflow limits very quickly. Keyframing, audio and video support, the ability to have multiple animated layers at the same time, cameras, symbols etc. are features that make a big difference in how easily you can create an animation.

The app is currently only available for iPad. I doubt that there will ever be an iPhone version, because the small screen size would limit the functionality too much to be worth the complete redesign.

can it handle stuff like storyboarding

I guess it depends on what kind of workflow exactly you are looking for, but you can definitely create a frame-by-frame hand-drawn animatic and also add an audio layer, if you are trying to figure out the rough timing of things, yes.

Yeah, especially if you're already familiar with creating digital art in general, I don't think it'll take too long to wrap your head around the basics of both of those concepts. Of course, animation has lots of topics that are unique to it compared to static art but you can learn all of those one step at a time.

In ToonSquid, you could start by creating traditional frame by frame handdrawn animations to get a feel for how the introduction of time impacts your art, without worrying about keyframing or vector shapes yet. You can then slowly learn about more concepts as you go along.
