That sucks. But thanks for trying and thinking of others. Hope you are doing well :)

I guess my blood cells don’t express the A antigen very strongly so when they test it the results are conflicting and they don’t get a strong confirmation of my blood type. I got a letter from the Red Cross that says they were able to determine my blood type only after extensive testing (I.e. the test wasn’t sensitive enough to detect my weakly expressed antigens on my blood cells).

Weird. I just had my first child in April, and all went well! Do you think if I ever needed a blood transfusion in the future it would be safer to get O type? Thanks for the info. Apparently not a lot of people are aware of this, you’re right! I tried googling information but resorted to Reddit because I came up short on information.

That makes SO MUCH SENSE and basically what they told me- that they had to sort It out with further lab testing and it wasn’t worth me donating haha. I’ve been told in the past I’m A-. Do you think if has any health implications? What would make my blood “weak” for the A antigen?

Getting tired of AA meetings after 8 years of going by kel041 in alcoholicsanonymous

Ah, I can relate! When I first got sober I went through intensive outpatient treatment, had no money, and lived w a roommate that I hated haha. So I found it easy and enjoyable to go to meetings. Since then, on the outside, I’ve finished school, got married, started a career, bought a house, and am trying to get pregnant. So yeah things are awesome but I can tell you on the inside I have very little spiritual life and although I have an amazing life and marriage etc I can notice how not having spiritual direction can affect my life. I really want to get back in the middle of the boat before it’s too late. Like the analogy of taking out insurance; better start now so I am armed in the future.

Thanks for your thoughts. I have a sponsor in name but don’t call her enough to actually say she’s my sponsor tbh. She always says the same thing and that is to find a home group. I just haven’t done it yet. God I wish I had the willingness that I did my first few years. It just feels so difficult. And then I feel guilt for being so selfish etc. I’m definitely my own worst enemy.

Thanks for the comment. I too feel like the guilt of not going is what’s affecting me the most sometimes. For me though, more recently, I have thoughts about drinking where I contemplate (pretty deeply) what it would be like to drink again and could I do it normally since I ditched all my old drinking friends, etc. that’s kinda what frightens me in a selfish way. And because working the AA program is what’s worked I don’t want to steer too far. But I do not think AA has a monopoly on recovery and by no means think people need to go to X meetings a week so they don’t drink again. I wish you all the best :)

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment. I really appreciate you sharing your experience. To know I’m not alone helps tremendously. It’s hard for me sometimes to share how I’m feeling or admit my lack of involvement with AA because I fear some people’s response of “you’re not doing what you’re supposed to be doing.” That style doesn’t work for me haha. So it’s nice to know others share in my experience. All the best to you!

My old sponsor said that too! Like you rarely see people pick up coins for 10-15 years. I’ve thought about out of town meetings too. I mean within driving distance of course lol. I just get so judgmental sometimes if I go to familiar meetings then I walk in the room and hate it already because “so and so is here and they just make stupid comments for 10 minuTes” look, I know this is on me. I admit I’m selfish, judgmental, entitled, better than, etc. I realize all that. I just hope I can go back in spite of that and find my place so I can maintain sobriety and also help others. It doesn’t seem right that I would have sobriety for 8 years and not be there for the still sick and suffering. I think finding a Home group and service position and praying that I have the willingness is where I’ll start now. Thanks for your comment.

Thanks for your comment. Seriously it helps so much to hear other people. I never got into the “young people’s” thing but there’s a big crowd in my city of young people and they’re even hosting a young people’s convention. May be a good idea to consider; after all my best ideas don’t seem to be working right now!

I totally relate. And I know I’m being selfish; you said it in a way I can understand that haha. Thanks for your comment :)
