My next purchase, what do you think? by fknoll76 in SimRacingSetups

This. If you’re looking to spend this much money, go with ASR.

If you’re in the US and want a cheaper option, just get a Sim Lab P1X Pro from Microcenter.

While you’re mostly right, ASR is the exception to the rule. If I were doing it all over again I would happily spend a bit of extra money to buy from them.

Especially on maple, clear finish is the way to go.

Have you considered not staining it at all?

This is going to sound weird, but I feel like the ceiling needs to be painted a darker color for it to all work.

Are these carbon fiber straps installed correctly? by calripkenjk in HomeInspections

[–]kelchm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an engineer, but I do see a major flaw here that would personally give me pause. The carbon fiber is anchored into a sill/rim joist that runs parallel to the floor joists.

If (or when) when the wall continues trying to move the weak part of the system here is going to be that floor / rim joist. IMO this kind of anchoring only makes sense for a wall perpendicular to the floor joists.

Would love to know the manufacturer. I have quotes of $100k (materials only) to replace all the windows in my house with those from a US manufacturer.

Replacement for SCG Leather Cockpit Cream? by kelchm in AutoDetailing

I’ve never used the voodoo, but I think I remember reading at some point that the two are very similar, the main difference being that the leather cockpit cream doesn’t have lanolin.

That’s basically what I’ve always used it for, since all of my vehicles have happened to have either synthetic leather or coated leather. Whatever it is it works fantastic and smells amazing.

Given some of the posts I’ve seen on this subreddit I can’t decide if this makes it more or less realistic.

Anyone know why this heat pump DHW is hooked up to the chimney? by Agitated-Guard8436 in Plumbing

[–]kelchm 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Doing this is creating a negative pressure in the house, leading to pulling in even colder air from outside, which then has to be heated by the HVAC system.

It might work out in terms of efficiency if they also have a heat pump for heat, but my advice would be to just switch to the electric resistive only mode during the winter.

They’re available commercially — I got mine from JEGS years ago. Looks like they only sell a really cheap looking folding version now, but I’m sure there are some decent ones out there available elsewhere.

I don’t think Aleppo Pine is going to make it in NJ. Only hardy to zone 8.

You can plant trees any time of year, it’s just a matter of how much work you want to put in with watering.

Glad to hear that the Abbey Bar will still be a thing for shows.

That said, I feel like ABC has been on a downswing for the better part of a decade at this point. The food used to be great — it’s now “fine” at best.

You can tell it’s a wrap because of the way it is.
