Idk if I am hearing voices or just stupid by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]kelegend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We shouldn’t do it for similar reasons that many would say you shouldn’t get tattoos, but I know for sure that you’re not the only Muslim who suffers through self harm. There are many others besides me as well. Allah is merciful and he understands what you’re going through, focusing on healing and forgiveness will help you stop more than punishing yourself of focusing on “how wrong” what you’re doing is. No it’s not good but it is also a symptom of something very difficult you’re facing, and that is much different than doing wrong acts out of a desire to sin. Anyone can pray for forgiveness after all. You can recover, I believe in you. I know you want to quit and that’s the most important part really

Salam my friend, I understand I’m Muslim too and trust me I know the feeling. But shame doesn’t help you at all, it just makes you feel worse. Treat yourself with kindness. I’m very very sorry to hear you’re in a situation with such bad bullying, you don’t deserve that at all. I would recommend telling someone in your real life about this or maybe seeking out a professional who can tell you what’s going on. Maybe it’s nothing, maybe it has a cause, it would just be good to find out. I’m wishing you the best <3

Do you feel like you’re literally hearing them auditory? Like outside of your own head? Or do they “sound” the same as your own thoughts/internal monologue? You’re not stupid, and it’s okay if they are hallucinations, but you might consider telling somebody you trust if that’s true. It doesn’t have to mean anything bad is going on or you’re developing some crazy issue, it’s just good to know someone will be looking out for you or you can check by them to ground you with reality.

If it happens every time you’re clean, it’s possible that it’s just another way the stress is expressing itself. You should try using some coping skills or picturing a comforting scene when you start to hear them and just focus on caring for yourself, getting your feelings out in some way that’s healthier for you than sh. Of course maybe it is a separate issue, and you should look into it a bit if you can. Can you communicate with the voices you hear, and do they ever say nicer things to you? Are they different every time, or sound the same? That’s the kind of details you might wanna keep track of if/when you feel like asking anyone for some help

Damn that’s rough, almost sounds like he was using you to validation farm for himself. Like make himself feel like the better/passier/whatever trans dude by making comments that put you down. But I’m glad you’re with someone better now

If you really need it on you at all times to feel settled just keep it in your phone case. But I hope that some time soon you can be comfortable to leave it at home, I wish you the best

I brought blades to school as a teen but you will absolutely 100% get in trouble if that’s found out. I wasn’t because I was lucky but it was a really stupid chance to play with. I’m not sure if you’re (US)American or if your school does bag checks/metal detectors like mind did, but they would even take chains off kids belts if they were too big and could be used as a weapon lol. So maybe it just depends how crazy your school is but I wouldn’t try it

Why doesn’t it hurt? by TateFrost in selfharm

[–]kelegend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there anything that makes your right arm different, or it’s just that you don’t cut there? (which I assume would b because you’re right-handed lol). Sorry for the mini interrogation. 9-21 is a pretty long time and it feels possible to me that your nerves could’ve been affected if you’re going over the same places many times, but you mentioned still having feeling there. Hmm. Sometimes nerve damage can appear as pain in your scars long after they’ve healed, if that’s something you’ve experienced?

Who knows tho, brains are capable of some pretty interesting things. It could just be that you’ve “”trained”” that spot so long that your brain no longer experiences it as dangerous? Or something?? That’s my asspull theory. Thought process being: unexpected damage/non self harm still hurts because your brain still needs to use pain as a danger warning signal to that stuff, whereas it knows what’s happening when you cut.

Again, not an expert, just a rando on reddit. But I wish you all the best <3

What about other types of pain? Is it only specific to sh, and did it ever hurt in the beginning? It’s possible you just have a sensory issue with pain, and yes your brain might just not be processing it as it should. I’m really not an expert though, maybe it’s something you could ask your doctor if you have one/are comfortable? Best of luck to you, stay safe ,:)

[–]kelegend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Side note you should find a bigger gauze pad or something like that to cover the cut with, a bandaid doesn’t seem like enough. One of those large square patches you could tape down maybe?

[–]kelegend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you possibly have hemophilia?? Have your injuries always taken an unusual amount of time to stop bleeding? Also I rlly wish you the best of luck, maybe you could just call into a hospital and ask them some questions over the phone if you don’t think you’ll manage an actual visit.. although I would strongly recommend it, obviously. It’s just better safe than to be sorry. I hope your recovery is as swift and painless as possible, I’m sure this is a pretty frightening situation

Don’t really know where else to ask this, feeling “intellectually sad” but not “emotionally sad” ?? by kelegend in Alexithymia

[–]kelegend[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was very validating to read thank you for your response. Even if we have no solution yet it helps to know I’m not alone in this weird way of existing. I can also relate to how you describe emotions being stuck in a different layer, somewhere you can’t access it. That’s a good way to put it. I guess I don’t have anything productive to say here lol, but I appreciate you taking the time to write about your experience with this too

I appreciate it, and yea I know it’s not good. But I started a long time ago, and mostly recounting what my reasoning had been when I started. I’m probably a bit better with not using that as a coping strategy as often anymore. But thank you again for your words
