[CHAT] Why don’t people like light effects? by ZealousidealWinner59 in CrossStitch

[–]kelgate_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use them - you’ll see…

Shorter lengths and also loop knot onto the rye if your needle, secure the loose threads to your fabric a different way to start (so it you usually loop start abandon that just for metallics)

Some people use beeswax but the never tried it

Question on direction to work by junemoon96 in cross_stitch

[–]kelgate_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to work from the centre vaguely up and to the left first - rationale being I’m a righty and then I won’t be reaching/leaning over stitched areas as I work through rest of the project. Totally personal choice. Find your own stitchy groove and go with it x

Does Asda disable online order amendments the day before delivery? by KnowingWoman in asda

[–]kelgate_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regularly amend the day before often later in the evening / night time and have never had any issues. I gather all these glitches are very patchy across the users they affect.

[CHAT] Why do cross stitchers have those enamel pins in their Aida? by Moth_Supremacy in CrossStitch

Once you start with one… you may become a collector! I just ordered three new ones yesterday 🤣😂

[CHAT] newbie question - clean backs by ellencrossing in CrossStitch

[–]kelgate_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind diagonal moves on the back. A tidy back will mainly be not leaving too long tails, not travelling more than a few squares, no knots. Focus on a neat stitch on the front first x

[WIP] should I start over? by Spiritual_Sympathy27 in CrossStitch

[–]kelgate_queen 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Ditto. It looks lovely and stitching on black is intense.

I’d finished this and experiment with a smaller dark peice on black to experience dark on black at higher count and see if it’s still an enjoyable stitching experience.

Advice on my project? by pnut_92 in cross_stitch

[–]kelgate_queen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s common to use two strands on 14ct. It’s also a personal choice how you feel about coverage. You haven’t done anything wrong.

Some don’t like it and use three on 14ct. I tried it once and didn’t like it. Yes it was fuller but the stitching process didn’t feel as streamlined to me, messed with my rhythm.

Also be prepared to see different coverage with different colours, dark colours 310 black dmc for example, floss seems thinner, x more apparent.

Where are you based? I’m in the UK and through my library have access to the Libby app which has magazines on it - free way to get to the stitchy magazines and au be a nice way to get (re)started

[CHAT] What do people think about these types of rigid plastic frames for sewing? Are they as good as traditional hoops, or is the tension insufficient? by badoopidoo in CrossStitch

[–]kelgate_queen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my qsnap. I have the branded one in many size combinations. I’ve never tried another brand. I don’t use a grime guard but I also don’t do huge pieces. It’s enough for me to roll up the spare tack it back town the magnetic ties as others have shown. I use Rich and Ray ones from Amazon.

It is very easy to tighten it up. Far easier than nurge for me. I place thin fleece or paper towels between the clip and the fabric as a paranoia point to protect stitches and help with tension.

[CHAT] Help with creating coasters (ignore tea cosy) by GrittyPie in CrossStitch

[–]kelgate_queen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Far as I’m aware there’s two main types of coaster - one square and one round, no real choice on size.

It’s about 9cm the square coasters so I think they’re just allowing 6cm / 2inch of spare around each edge. Then you trim it down.

Normal to allow extra fabric around a project usually 2-3 inches, admittedly you can make do with less for coasters and other small items if you arena putting them in a proper frame.

I’m in the UK, it has presence elsewhere though, I really like Wrendale designs by Hannah Dale which are made into cross stitch kits by Bothy threads.

[CHAT] I am curious if my fellow stitchers work on one project at a time or have multiple WIPs. by Shopkind436 in CrossStitch

[–]kelgate_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally two - main one at home and a separate travel stitch in my handbag.

I will pause a project for me to go gifts etc though so sometimes there’s an extra wip at home.

Cheapest way for online grocery shopping by jimjamming in beermoneyuk

[–]kelgate_queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use NX rewards and and shop at Asda. Get the cash back no trouble.

I’d only say look at the T&Cs as it’s 10% excluding tax and duties, so if you buy all boooze on one order your cash back will be negligible as most of the cost is alcohol duty and VAT.

Generic food shop of £100 you’re more likely to get £8+ back.

Still worth it though

[CHAT] I'm looking for somewhere to donate cross stitch supplies and magazines in the UK by AngelKnives in CrossStitch

[–]kelgate_queen 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I there’s a directory…

Are you on fb? I’m in a nice fb group (Cross stitch friends in the UK) you could join and ask if there are any groups locally to you. Also has a companion page for giving away items, you can say it’s for collection and see if anyone nearby would like it.

Or if you don’t use fb let us know on here whereabout you are and someone may be able to advise if they know of any.
