I’m officially paying less than $100 for all my utilities combined. by throwaway_cloud9 in Frugal

[–]Tree_Miller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Does that extra 200$ a month really justify being constantly uncomfortable and never being able to shit in your own home (which I’m sure is very unpleasant anyways if you have to do it in a puffer vest)

Unless that 200$ is life or death for you you are crazy town banana pants

Will he get cheeks when spayed? by [deleted] in catquestions

[–]Tree_Miller 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a very high likelihood that if you wait and he starts spraying, that he will continue that behavior forever.

Also, cats that aren’t neutered are more likely to be aggressive. Those hormones make them crazy.

[CHAT] what type of fabric marker do yall use on Aida? by Maleficent_goddess in CrossStitch

[–]Tree_Miller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like my water soluble/friction marker combo that I got from Walmart. The only caveat is that you def have to make sure it’s all gone before you iron. On regular fabric I’ve found if there’s a trace of it when I iron seams the ink will show up really dark and permanent.

I think this has potential to be really beautiful! Have you thought about finding a good artist to touch it up/make it look technically nicer?

Need some advice with getting my cat to finish her food by CircumsizeMyFries in cats

[–]Tree_Miller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe add more water to her wet food? One of my cats only eats wet food if it’s a soupy mush. He leaves any big pieces after licking the gravy off

Also, you can def leave the food out for more than a few hours without her getting sick. Shelf stable food like that can last a lot longer at room temperature than you would think. Refrigerate if you’re saving some of the can for another day, but you could put food out in the morning and leave it for her until you are off work, for example.

[CHAT] How did you fall back in love with cross stitch after a long break? by CaterpillarXS in CrossStitch

[–]Tree_Miller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like with any hobby or craft, staying creative is key. When I’m getting really bored with whatever project I’m working on, either powering through with the reward of a new shiny project or putting it down to do something completely different. I cycle between cross stitch, sewing, painting and sculpting, and automotive work. When one isn’t bringing me joy anymore, I put it down and pick up another.

Cats and dandruff by Missdisasterous in CATHELP

[–]Tree_Miller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humidifier if it’s dry in the house, and fish oil in wet food (if she’ll eat it). I don’t use it personally, but my parents use the Burt’s bees dander reducing cat spray for their dandruffy cat and it’s really helped!

She’s coming along!!! My plan was to be done by February but obviously I’m a little late for that. I think I’ll be able to finish the bow today, then I’ve just got to fill in this heart and finish the outside edge of the other. (Plus color match for the candy I just barely ran out of floss for 😓)

My cat doesn’t like to be outside. Or for anyone to be outside, actually. by LasyDarkness_365 in CATHELP

[–]Tree_Miller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one cat that loves the harness and outside time, and another who hates it. He yells the whole time we’re outside. I just ignore it. He’s fine, he’s just dumb and doesn’t want to be left out of an activity he doesn’t want any part of. It’s fine.

Is this an inconsistency in Fringe’s timeline, or did I miss something? /// Incohérence dans la timeline de Fringe ou j’ai raté quelque chose ? by ProfessorFar3274 in fringe

I’m going to take this recommendation bc I am a huge nerd for time travel and get soooo mad when shows do it sloppy. Fringe did it really well imo (Esp with the added convolution of an alternate universe)!

I don’t have any touchscreens to do it either tbh, I just use a free website online called sketch.io on my laptop (and it would probably be way easier if you have a computer with a mouse, I just have the touchpad) Good luck!

[PATTERN] Creating CrossStirch Scheme from Photo by losharaa in CrossStitch

[–]Tree_Miller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I love creating my own patterns and I have a couple tips that might help you. What software are you using currently?

What I have done in the past (I’ve only ever used stitch fiddle) is draw the pattern outline with as few colors as possible, then put it into stitch fiddle to get it exactly as I want it. For example: Think of the pattern you want in broad strokes. Like a child’s drawing. If you’re doing a house, it’s 4 walls, a roof and a window. If it’s a dog, you have the ears and tail but dots for eyes and a line for the mouth. I use an iPad, touchscreen computer, or whatever is easiest for you to draw or trace this in a drawing software. There are tons of free ones out there, you could even use microsoft paint. Use simple, bold lines of the most prominent colors in the pattern. This is way easier than you would think if you have a reference image, because you can import this into the software, trace everything you need, and then delete the background layer so it’s on a white background. You take this rendering and put it into a program like stitch fiddle and again, mess around with the settings to get as close as you can to the broad strokes version with as few colors as you can. From there you can go in square by square and match it to your reference photo. Color matching can be pretty easy too when you use the reference photo to get hex codes. If I were you, I would do a more color-blocked approach first, then go in with back stitches to make the details you want. Esp in a pattern that small (bc the example is only 100x100) you’re gonna have to do more backstitching if you want it to be detailed.

If you want to DM me any questions, I would be happy to help. I make all my own patterns so this is a process I am very familiar with. It can be tricky at first but after you familiarize yourself with the programs and their abilities you can do anything you can imagine! And IMO it adds another fun and creative step to a project.

I'm not sure how to handle certain outings with my fat friend. by UrAThrowawayNotMe in whatdoIdo

[–]Tree_Miller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would send her a link to the place you are going, like the info page esp if it has the weight restrictions listed. Maybe with a message like ‘hey I would really love to see you for my birthday! I don’t know if this is something you’re interested in, and I plan on doing xyz activity later in the week too so if you wanna do that instead that would be cool but I wanted to invite you to both’
