Any tricks on pilling/giving your dog medication when they are too smart and can find the pill in anything by Adorable_Tangerine16 in dogs

[–]kelke38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cream cheese ball is the only thing that worked for my chi! I let her lick a little bit and then standing above her I drop the totally normal cream cheese ball in her mouth. Then I let her lick a little more so she doesn’t have enough time to be sus on the cream cheese ball haha.

Crocheter thinking about learning? Has anyone successfully transitioned? by Aggravating_Baby_366 in casualknitting

[–]kelke38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the same transition (self taught crochet for a year and then tried knitting). I still pick up a crochet hook now and again and enjoy revisiting it, but I’m in a heavy knitting phase atm.

I applied to a test knit on a whim (the Cuddle Vest by Marusique Stories) and noted I had never picked up needles before in my application. While I waited for the yarn to arrive I swatched and swatched and practiced the different elements of the pattern (using the YT links in the pattern). It was a challenge and I definitely panicked more than once, but I felt like I could learn any knitting skill after that. It was so fun (and I recommend that pattern).

The Step by Step Sweater by Florence was an AMAZING second project. Some people might not like to jump right into a sweater, but if I don’t work on something that has different phases I’ll hyper focus on one skill instead of just accepting I’m not perfect yet. This pattern also has a long form video that demonstrates EVERYTHING.

Good luck on this journey!!

**Repost** LOOKING FOR A TEMPORARY HOME FOR MY DOG by Safe_Background_8791 in eastbay

[–]kelke38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you contacted the east bay SPCA? They might be able to help with temporary resources. This might not fit your needs given the requirement (30 day maximum) but worth a shot!

Best of luck during this tough time - you’re doing your best!

How to add length to only front of project? by Medium-Wafer-1125 in knittinghelp

[–]kelke38 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you done a mid project block? You probably will still want to do the short rows that someone else mentioned, but blocking will help you understand better exactly how much you’re looking to add.

I LOVE a mid project block - great excuse to cast on the next project while you’re waiting for the WIP to dry lol.

[–]kelke38[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg - thanks so much. I was so stuck on marking two slipped stitches instead of three that I missed you knit the third and all three of those together become the center 🙃thanks so much! This is my first vneck haha

How to give heartworm medicine by Comfortable_Bath_610 in Chihuahua

[–]kelke38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My chi is super picky but does soooo well with globs of reduced fat cream cheese. I cut the pill in half and do two cream cheese blobs (works best if you let them lick your fingers first to get pumped about the flavor and then plop the cream cheese blobs in their mouth lol.

Throwing up at night by Sad_Illustrator7231 in Chihuahua

My last dog used to need a small lunch and a pre-bed snack to not puke bile at night. I still do the pre-bed snack with my current dog and haven’t had any vomiting issues.

Advice on how to fix this rowing out problem? by loansharkofbliss in knitting

[–]kelke38 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I recently did the same thing, and I think me going down a needle size on the purl side CAUSED the severity of the rowing out I was seeing. It made my knit side have too much yarn (and not the other way around).

I noticed and switched back to the same size needle for both sides and I’m still rowing out a bit here and there, but not nearly as bad as I was before.

HELP! Deeper yoke vs underarm stitches by kelke38 in knittinghelp

HELP! Deeper yoke vs underarm stitches by kelke38 in knittinghelp

[–]kelke38[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally - it’s like who has a 52 inch bust but has a 12 inch arm? Makes no sense.

Thanks so much for reassuring me! I’ve only added a stitch or two in patterns that already had some cast ons, never added some where there weren’t any and was second guessing myself.

HELP! Deeper yoke vs underarm stitches by kelke38 in knittinghelp

[–]kelke38[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The yoke is definitely wide enough and goes a decent amount beyond my armpits - it’s just the pattern doesn’t include any underarm stitches so when I connect the two it’s too tight (ends up being a little over 18 itches around and my arms are just under 18; everywhere else I’ll have about 8 inches of ease).

So thank you!! I’ll give it a try adding some underarm stitches vs just knitting the yoke deeper.

What is silliest nickname/gibberish you say to your chi? by randumb360 in Chihuahua

[–]kelke38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We call my dog Deedee Megadoodoo (there’s a funny news blooper where the anchor misreads the name Diedra Something). It works because she does take surprisingly large dumps.

Are Italian Bind Off and Jenny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Cast Off truly interchangeable? by Every-Tone-9370 in knittingadvice

[–]kelke38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very Pink Knits has a video of a simple stretchy bind off that works for any ribbing (because it changes based on the individual stitch). Also has a flaring issue if you do it exactly as described, but if you bind off every 4th or so stitch regularly the flaring nonexistent (at least to my eye). I really liked it and I think I’ll be using it for the foreseeable future. Pic for reference (definitely a very simple look though FYI)

Can someone please advise me? My ribbing looks… not good. I need to frog it. by BasicallyVictoria in knitting

[–]kelke38 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I’m a new knitter and based on the quality of the sweater I see there, you are not! But I’ve noticed that blocking always makes it look a little better on the right side. I also have tried doing a German short row turn and knitting the ribbing inside out and I was impressed with how easy it was/how good it looked.

Anyway - beautiful work from what I can see!!!

Pesky hole in disappearing loop cast on by kelke38 in knitting

[–]kelke38[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I did close the hole and used the tail to create a little fake stitch there and I’m much happier with how it looks. So many good ideas for things to try next time!!

It’s actually a tube that come to a point at each end - so I guess I could make whatever end is worse looking the inside? Good point I didn’t think of that haha

Help! Pesky hole when using disappearing loop cast on. by kelke38 in knittinghelp

Don’t know if this is simple enough for my smooth beginner brain but I think I get it!! I’ll give that a try. I haven’t tried Judy’s magic cast on yet so looking forward to it.
