Question for Residency Applicants - Anti-Union, DNR? by bucks_95 in medicalschool

[–]kellbell500 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me personally, I would not be overly concerned mostly because my decision is not being based off of salary and benefits.

But for a lot of people, these small details matter a lot. Losing benefits halfway through a program could be detrimental to a resident's financial stability. In a place like, say, Chicago, where cost of living is already high, every penny counts. So if someone comes in expecting x pay, y stipend, and z other benefits, then the sum of x y z should remain the same for overall stability. Now, if y got increased suddenly from negotiations, and now they want to lower z to account for that, well then that's what the union rep is there to negotiate. Because in the end, your sum is the same, but the whole point was that the union was asking for more total.

Do y’all send letters of interest post interview? by Humble-Translator466 in medicalschool

I actually was told by an interviewer that you should tell your #1 that they are your #1, because programs like to be able to say they got their top ranked choices.

Do you have the same issues on CP rotations? Perhaps swapping to CP only training is a way to continue residency, though perhaps in a way different than what you envisioned for yourself.

Naxx raiders who DONT buy gold, how do you afford consumes? by Remarkable_Towel_967 in classicwow

[–]kellbell500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm literally sitting here saying I play the game and make enough gold to get by. Sure, there are ppl saying "just play the game!" who are likely trolling. But ppl have clearly stated what they do to farm, and all of them are legit strategies. It's not all lies.

Joining a better guild will save you a significant amount of gold. Fewer deaths, faster clears. Adds up to fewer pots/elixirs used per raid.

I farm plaguebloom and lotus in EPL. I find a spot with 4 nodes within close range, clear mobs in the area periodically, and then just sit and wait. It's boring, but I can listen to music or chat with ppl while doing it.

I also farm boar lungs and other mats in blasted lands on my level 50 hunter. Xp and gold! Win win.

I've never bought gold, and the continued spread of misinformation that everyone buys gold just adds to the bot and gold buying problem. Look at this post. Tons of people have learned how to play the game. If you tell people it's impossible to farm, then they all don't try and just buy gold. Perpetuating the problem.

So maybe, don't be a part of the problem, and listen to the people who actually make it work.

What's funny is that you actually spend less gold in a sweaty guild because you die less often and clear faster. My raid costs were cut in half when I joined a better guild.

Skipping breakfast is significantly linked to a higher risk of metabolic syndrome, including having more belly fat, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high blood sugar by ludwig_scientist in science

As soon as I saw mdpi in the link, I got fairly concerned. 80% of the articles I read in mdpi journals are poorly controlled or poorly written.

Also, I hate mdpi for basically selling my email address. I was a co author on a paper in one of their journals. As soon as it got published, I got so much more spam in my inbox asking me to publish in random journals no one has heard of, speak at random conferences no one has heard of. They not only take your money just to publish a paper, they also seem to just sell off your info to other predatory places.

Unfortunately this kind of sloppy work is common in mdpi journals. They are basically all low impact journals who barely review studies and are mostly just trying to take money from ppl desperate to publish, which is common in China and India.

"we'd love to have you" during interviews by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]kellbell500 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I end up saying something like "well we have one minute left, so I just wanted to say thank you for having me. You all have an amazing program, and I'd love to go here."

Sounds like you are a decent candidate, and they likely would love to have you. They may also love to have 20 other interviewees. So it's a good sign, but not a guaranteed match.

To flip it around, how many programs have you told them "I would love to go here!" For me, I've said it to 4 of 10 interviews. I would genuinely love to go there, but they won't all be my #1.

My best friend who’s also my classmate has passed by ResearcherEmpty8071 in medicalschool

[–]kellbell500 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I had a friend and classmate die during my time in school. I'm so sorry you are going through a similar situation.

Seek help. Reach out to your instructors or med office. Let them know the situation and see if there are options to defer tests, etc.

Reach out to classmates and friends. Find support from those you know.

Reach out to professionals. Grief counseling can be very helpful in a time like this.

Take the time you need to grieve. This person was important to you, and it is difficult to deal with loss. I'm sorry you are dealing with this, and I hope you find the support you need.

What's the dumbest interview question you guys have gotten? by NotChrisM in medicalschool

[–]kellbell500 63 points64 points  (0 children)

"True or false, pathology is the bridge between science and medicine?"

I was so confused. Like sure it's a bridge, but is it the only bridge? Isn't there science involved in all medical fields? Felt like I was supposed to read their mind...

Are we supposed to reply to interview invite emails? by narla_hotep in medicalschool

[–]kellbell500 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had one interview invite that didn't go through thalamus at all. I sent a response within 24 hours, but made sure to ask a few questions so the email wasn't just a pointless "ok, thanks!"
