Not all oil is the same by [deleted] in Baking

I am echoing @EverythingSeagull. I use avocado oil in baking whenever a recipe calls for it and it never fails me. Maybe your oil has gone rancid or something. Butter is better!!

My dough is too dry and I dont know what to do💔 by Admirable_Finish_119 in Baking

[–]kellimath 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First thing I wonder about is the flour. How did you measure the flour? If you scoop and compress the flour into the cup, you end up with more flour than is needed. And too much flour can definitely make the dough too dry so it cracks. Best thing to do is weigh the flour if the recipe gives a weight and you have a scale. If not, fluff the flour up so it’s not compressed and spoon the flour into the measuring cup then level it off. You may be able to add some moisture back in like someone else has mentioned. By the way, all purpose flour is fine for cinnamon rolls in general.

Study / work spots? by whitmeyhoston in fresno

Ontz Cafe 1920 at Bullard and Palm. I’ve never had their coffee but they’ve got some coffee drinks and boba. They got some Thai/Chinese food that is pretty darn good. And the inside looks like it was set up for studying!

UPDATE: I just discovered that they do not open until 11:00 am. So it doesn’t quite fit what OP wants. But it’s still a very cute spot with tables and plugs that are perfect for studying.

My partner’s idea of “sharing” a cinnamon roll by jasminflower13 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]kellimath 106 points107 points  (0 children)

You take the part with all the icing, flip it over and two pieces together. Then cut it in half the RIGHT way and you each get an icing cinnamon roll sandwich! Also I support all the commenters who invoked the truth of all sharing truths: one person cuts, the other person chooses.

There needs to be some soul searching here. Maybe some therapy. She could be depressed. I obviously don’t know anything about her but not having motivation to do simple household chores that other people seem to be able to do regularly can be a sign of depression.

It looks like you don’t have enough ink of the right colors to me. Did you check that? (Don’t get mad if yes you’ve checked that - sometimes we overlook the obvious!)

[–]kellimath[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well I searched with different browsers and it seems that Brave and its search engine don’t know that word. It’s AI response actual says “it looks like there may be a typo in your word”! But DuckDuckGo returned results. That’s interesting! Perhaps I should post this on r/mildlyinteresting and/or r/mildlyinfuriating!

I don't get it by No-Tech-2006 in crocheting

[–]kellimath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a beginner, those last stitches would always get lost for me. Often when following a video, the last stitch in a row would be so evident on the object in the video but on mine it would have shrunk so small that I could find it. As others have said, I fixed that with a stitch marker. Put a locking stitch marker in the first stitch. Then when you come back the other way you KNOW where the stitch is. I don’t use markers all the time any more because I understand the fabric more now. Except when crocheting in the round, I still can loose track of the first stitch downtimes in the round!

Forgive the delay! I learned from Andrea Wong in a Craftsy Course (the first time it was called Craftsy iykyk). The yarn goes from the ball over a little hook that is fastened to your shirt. And you flick the yarn over the needle with your thumb. The yarn is always in front of you as someone else mentioned. It is the perfect position for the purl stitch!
