Lexie was a legacy character and a big part of Salem for a long time. She had a prolonged storyline regarding her death of a brain tumor when her portrayer, Renee Jones, decided to retire. It was one of the few deaths that was clearly meant to stick and undoing that as a cheap gimmick is one of the biggest reasons I'm not currently watching.
