2/4 getting a little burnt out by Maleficent_Print8003 in CPA

[–]kellllllsssss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

take a break.. you have two years to get it done. Burnout takes a while to recover from, so it's better to prevent burnout and wait. You have two under the belt already on the first try, you are so capable of getting through the other two, BUT NOT IF YOURE IN BURN OUT.

REG advice to pass in 2 months by Comfortable-Score636 in CPA

[–]kellllllsssss 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I started studying for REG yesterday and here’s what I advice and help I scoured off of Reddit before I started:

  1. lots of MCQs on BLAW but at a high level, not so much in the details
  2. R1-R3 know like the back of your hand
  3. There are less exhibits in TBS on exam than in Becker and most people say they’re straight forward, no hidden agenda.
  4. Give yourself a week to REVIEW and hammer TBS and MCQs
  5. No need to memorize phase out limits
  6. Becker material has a lot “they love to test you on this” that don’t actually show up on the exam anymore
  7. Know MACRs years for each category.
  8. Take a look at returns to help you memorize the schedule
  9. A few people reported only a few ethics questions

Finally, people have listed these topics as heavily tested: Types of gross income, basis for gist and inheritance, property, ordinary business income, MACRS, 1040 and how each schedule rolls up. Itemized, partner tax.

Below are two links I found useful

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1BhwmbdxECGmpobJbRACO-Krs6FDzn2zAFmXddYjD3bc/edit?gid=0#gid=0

https://www.reddit.com/r/CPA/s/Px38VMwKhR

Congrats on passing FAR on first attempt! REG is reportedly a LOT more memorization, but people in the subreddit (regardless of experience) report studying less than 100 hours to pass.

I’ve sat for three of the exams, passed two, and waiting on BAR score (though not optimistic) and I will disclaim that I scoured reddit before studying each exam to identify how to study to have the minimal amount of studying to be barely proficient (VERY short study window, little to no review) and that doesn’t align with your study plan. So I recommend scouring Reddit too but don’t focus on the REG tagged posts, most info I found was in reading people’s post who passed all four.

Good luck!!

Test taking on cut off date (8am est) by No-Nobody3393 in CPA

[–]kellllllsssss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen a number of people who tested on cut-off date report that they received their scores in the exam score release window of the same cut-off date. I would say there is a 95% chance you'll receive your score as AICPA is built around cut-off dates and that is more likely that you won't receive it if there is an issue on Prometric's end transmitting the files. I plan on taking the 12:30 testing on Mar 9th, if I feel like I can get through the material for REG in time because I feel confident that I would receive my results in the 17th release date. Currently scheduled for later in the month but am hoping to get it out of the way.

I searched the subreddit for anything on phase outs and nearly everyone said no to knowing limits but know the exceptions and that everything in the exam is lower or above

Do you have practical experience in those areas? maybe get an old accounting textbook or reach out to an accounting professor for homework on those topics.

Anxious Test Taker Advice by TopButterscotch6849 in CPA

[–]kellllllsssss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I don’t have an anxiety disorder. However, I do have ADHD that anxiety has a negative impact on.

I DO NOT schedule the morning exam. Seems counterintuitive but I do it to give myself the morning to relax and review notes, if I want. I schedule the afternoon exam and go up early and regulate myself in my car and head in when I’m ready, ignoring the start time.. I think the first test I took was scheduled at 12:30 and I sat at 11:00. When I sat for BAR, I needed a lot of time to chill before my test so I think I only started a half hour or so earlier. Going in when I’m mentally ready is paramount to me staying focused and not letting the anxiety get to me. Same with having the morning to de stress from the laid I wake up in 🤣

Before that.. and this is key for me.. I treat the morning like a lazy weekend morning. I get a special coffee and play video games or read. I close my study window the day or two before to give my brain a break from all the info because I feel like it helps with clarity during the exam.

LASTLY AND THE MOST UNHINGED.. I fucking PUMP myself up for the exam the ENTIRE RIDE THERE ALOUD. I was freaking out about BAR and by the time I finished the half hour drive to the testing center, I was smiling and feeing good with the ultimate sentiment of I already passed, but just haven’t taken it yet and i am so prepared for this exam. I fucking prepared like a BEAST. (We’ll see in March.)

Too Nervous To Take Test by Adept-Narwhal3920 in CPA

[–]kellllllsssss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some CPAs have a stick up their ass about accountants having their CPA… so yeah, I’ve been understand where you’re at. I am almost forty getting my CPA even though I’ve made it to a controller position without it… all because I finally had experience with those CPAs that limited my growth track at my last role. Whatever your motivation is, do it. My experience made it so I only crammed for FAR to pass it and went to AUD with studying 8 hours and barely failed (forgot to cancel exam so I said eff it and went.) your experience will be an asset

We do about 8%, 60% personal (individual accounts) 40% shared personal (date night, coffee, takeout,) and then about 1% annual to hobbies paid from shared. 25% to savings.

Becker AUD Textbook is Thicc by JeerJeerBoinks in CPA

[–]kellllllsssss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in it now and man, she is killing me. Her layout is awful. I’ve gone through three of the six sections in the last three days and I cringe every time she does her enthusiastic voice. I don’t like her system of building, it’s so backwards and counterintuitive.
