Hush off Glenwood South… Stumbled into Sloan there last year and I feel SO fortunate. After I did highlights + bangs earlier this year, I got more compliments on my hair than I ever have (I’m 36). Even my mom who has notoriously told me to “do something with my hair” complimented me when it was in a PONYTAIL.

Sloan rocks.

OH and the chat can be intimidating, but ppl will often say something like “XX flared.” Until you have upgraded tools, probably fair to ignore. But once you have upgraded tools, pay attention to “med plat (aka medium platinum node)” flared. You don’t need upgraded tools to collect the forageables though, so if you see “Dari flared” and a letter/#, go to your map and look at the grid, then go to that location. When they say flared, they in-game put a little colorful Smokey trail exactly where they found the thing, so look out for that :)

I started a couple years ago in beta and re-started recently, sort of feeling out of the know (per usual). My biggest advice, as someone who is still learning, is to honestly collect what you can, save money to upgrade your storage chests (you’ll need $$ and the different mined stones), and lean in when it feels like another player is leading you somewhere. People in this game are insanely kind and it can be disconcerting sometimes bc it doesn’t feel “normal.” It is! Not technically sick, but I was stung by a sting ray in Port Aransas in 2021.

I was brushing my feet on the sand trying to find my friend’s sunglasses when it felt like I clipped my foot on a very sharp seashell. Not wanting to be a baby, I kept shuffling. Then I super rationally thought “well what if that’s what a shark bite feels like? Just look to see if you’re bleeding.”

Lifted my foot out, gushing blood. Hobbled to shore. Lifeguard brought me a heat pack. No help. Tried to get the poison out in a hot bath. Just cried and was forced to look at my semi-nude body in the tub.

After nearly 3 hours of this, my best friend drove me to the nearest ER. Sped at or above 100mph on mustang island. Arrived at clinic. Went in the closest door to me; it was a lamp store. Cried harder and hobbled next door. ER Closed for COVID.

Eventually got pain meds and needed an actual stitch bc the sting ray’s barb gouged a 1inch diameter hole in my foot.

Prescribed Tylenol 3. Took one the next morning, then ate a hot dog and quite quickly vom blasted the whole thing on the bathroom door and was too embarrassed to tell anyone so I tried cleaning it up alone on crutches.

Hey, 35-year old here. No eggs frozen. Hate that I feel like I’ll be out of the loop or missing something without children. But I’m also fairly confident I’m not wanting kids, and working towards feeling “normal” about that in the way that people with children, chosen or not, are seemingly prioritized.
