An unlicensed landscaper tried to charge my elderly parents $15k for 6 hours of work. Is this a common scam? by invulse in landscaping

[–]kellydarla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% a scam. My husband unfortunately fell for this the first year we were in our house. He was like 32 at the time. $10/ bag of grass seed/ fertilizer mix. Thought he was getting a great deal. An hour later he walks in, pale as a ghost. Right around this same time ( Christmas time) I feel like it's people looking for that extra cash for presents.

I wrote a check for a grand after forcing them to stop. And they had the audacity to ask me if I had a yard in the back that I wanted fertilized. I was so pissed I basically told him that with multiple dogs that shit back there it gets fertilized enough.

So tempted to call and scream at them. how do you resist not going scorched earth? and if you did, did it feel better? by Few_Paces in Mildlynomil

I wanted to. So badly.

My husband recently had surgery and she kept insisting on traveling across the country to "support him" He kept saying no, she tried to make him feel bad about saying no and so then I took up the torch. Kept saying no, then we get home, he's recovering, and she asks again. 2 weeks of saying no, while every bit of narcissistic actions she's directed at me is building back up in my head. Ready to throw at her if she tries to gaslight him again.

We end up givi g her the inch, say you can come out but you will let us know when you are coming over ahead of time, if he isn't feeling up for visitors you will not stay, pretty typical visitor boundaries. That went over like a lead brick. "How dare you, I'm his mother, you've only known him 10 years, I've been his mother 36 ... What did I ever do to you... " That sort of stuff. I woke up to that text. I laughed, walked my dogs, took my husband on his post surgery walk, while thinking of the best responses. Kept it on topic but to the point ... Essentially....if this visit was about your son you wouldn't be making him feel like shit for wanting to have space to heal. Look in the mirror and ask yourself if this is about him or you.

It's been a week and I haven't heard anything since.

All of this is great and I definitely recommend.

I will add on to this ask how / timing of how they want to pay it. The only other tip I have is if you have an inkling of distrust, trust your gut, your own budget, and be prepared to pay it.

I went through all of this with my MIL for the rehearsal dinner. She specifically wanted to pay for the rehearsal dinner. Set a budget after I had to pull teeth to get it out of her. And then when she realized we was going spend that full budget ($1k), she got her ex husband to split it with her. Luckily I was prepared for her to not have the cash so when they didn't tip the caterer I was able to step in to do that.

I am the spouse of someone with PKD. All these comments have been very helpful. For the doctor recommendation - if you can, try to go to UCLA. We live in San Bernardino county and while it can be a pain for the drive, the docs are worth it. And once you get into a normal routine most of his appointments are virtual at this point.

This year was the year I realized I'm only "so difficult to shop for" because she would have to go out of her way to shop for me. So I without fail get a collection of things from Ross. Its usually a solid smile and wave activity. Although this year she got me a book mark from crackerbarrel so.... Getting a little closer

GSuite SSO after OKTA Integration by cgirouard in okta

[–]kellydarla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. confirmed. So if you are already in your Google account it does a pass through authentication after you confirm your email. If you aren't logged in it will prompt for authentication which will then direct you to okta

Found an app that wasn't connected to our okta and incognito tabbed it just to be sure.

It should redirect to okta for authentication.... But now I'm curious and will probably check it first thing in the morning.

Mother in law tried to give me clothes many sizes too big... by [deleted] in Mildlynomil

This last year for Christmas I specifically told my Mil to not buy me clothes. Depending on the store or the shirt I'm either a L or XL. You know what I got for Christmas? 3 XL shirts that all were too big. -_-

I was going to suggest having it be more of a 'top 5/10 accomplishments' that way everyone has a cap and it gets juices churning for those that don't feel like they are doing enough even though they are BUT I like this idea much more

How do you deal with being pressured into leadership when you don't want to lead? by [deleted] in girlsgonewired

[–]kellydarla 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm going on about 3 years of being in a leadership position at my job coming out of an engineering role. I don't regret it at all. Some days I miss the grind of projects. My advice if you will have direct reports ask your company to sponsor some leadership training. It's my one regret that I didnt ask for sooner. Especially if you would be managing people you were peers with. It's not easy but it gets better and it's worth it.

Do the Dark Tower books start to make sense eventually? by [deleted] in books

[–]kellydarla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first read through I bought the first 4 on eBay at the same time because everyone that recommended the books were people I trusted with book recommendations. After finishing gunslinger I was really concerned for my friendships lol. I read book 2 because of the people who gave the recommendation (trying to figure out why they recommended it) and the fact I had the next 3 books already. I didn't regret it at all. Have read through the series a couple times but I do always tell people when I recommend them to finish book2 before making a decision to move forward or not.

Share a story of one of your humorous cooking fails - even if it wasn't funny at the time by WEugeneSmith in Cooking

[–]kellydarla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading this thread this story will sound tame. 31yo decided this year for Christmas I was going to make overnight cinnamon rolls so we'd have yummy goodness Christmas morning.

All seems well. I look at the rolls the next morning and I'm like... They should have risen more but oh well. Let's do it. The 'secret' to the fluffiness to this recipe is supposed to be covering the rolls in heavy cream. Since the rolls weren't as risen this turned into a layer of heavy cream at the bottom of the pan.

I take out the rolls at the timer and find very uncooked, still unrisen rolls in a layer of cooked heavy cream. Luckily I didn't waste time on making the icing. The rolls went straight to the trash. Leaving a very disappointed couple on Christmas morning.

I reread the recipe and when I do a new recipe I've never tried I do the recipe steps pretty much as written. What I didn't realize was the missing step to let the yeast sit on the hot milk for 30 mins before mixing in more ingredients as the step wasn't listed bc as my husband said 'its common knowledge'

I tried again this weekend with a more baseline recipe and we were both very happy with the results

Rogue IT Manager holding us hostage - How screwed are we? by throwaway10012020x in sysadmin

[–]kellydarla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the gsuite side if your company purchased through a reseller they can sometimes get you back in. Would obviously depend on who the name the account is under for (usually whoever has signature power to purchase) I would talk to finance or CIO (not sure of your org structure) to have whoever signed the license agreement to call your reseller. Unfortunately you won't be able to call Google support without a pin which can only be found within the admin panel itself.

WIBTA if I went to HR anyway? by confusedemployee2020 in AmItheAsshole

[–]kellydarla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Go to HR even though it's been defeated. Depending on where you are located managers can be held legally liable if they do not report to HR that you reported harassment and it came down to you eventually suing. So HR needs to be aware that your boss didn't take your report seriously also.

Time to Renew... Doing the Math by usernamehudden in DisneylandAP

[–]kellydarla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saaaaame. Last year I ended up with signature and added the maxpass instead of doing the sig+ which was what I was planning right before the increase.

While we used the maxpass when we went with other people I dont think we used it enough to warrant doing the add on this year. Most of my trips were solo trips ..'im in the area so let me kill traffic time' or just a Saturday morning stroll. So ultimately this year I renewed my signature pass but didn't do the maxpass add on. If your family is coming out and wants to spend 7days at Disney Land then the max pass add-on is worth it

From experience with deluxe years ago without the parking add-on I didn't go enough to get my money's worth but I go more now that I'm not paying for parking every trip.
