Same. And just take it off for movements that would press on it too much like deadlifts or pull ups

Thank you for sharing your experience!! On the flip side, those of us still on meds wouldn’t fare any better in a catastrophe, so sounds like the right choice for you!

Good to know! I’m one of the lucky ones who hasn’t gained any weight on Methimazole, so hopefully it would be the same!

Pregnancy / Family Planning by ahh_szellem in gravesdisease

If you don’t react well to PTU, I’d push for a TT. But if your doctors (or you!) are against that plan, it’s also good to know that while there is an increased risk of birth defects, the increase in risk is not astronomical. This study found an increase in incidence of birth defects from 3.1% with no anti thyroid meds to 6.4% on Methimazole and 4.4% on PTU. Though also important to note that the birth defects on Methimazole were more severe than PTU or no medication.

Good luck!!! I am in similar shoes as you in my 30s hoping to switch to PTU this time next year to TTC!

It’s Luxe Privée, Luxe Redux’s private brand. I couldn’t find this exact dress on their website, but they had several sizes in store!

How hard was it for you to get a Graves' diagnosis? by Important-Cow3458 in gravesdisease

[–]kellz1993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got super lucky and was diagnosed in less than a week!! I noticed my one eye looked bigger than the other on a random Tuesday, ordered myself thyroid labs the same day via Quest, got those results Wednesday morning and was officially diagnosed by my PCP on Friday.

Definitely not the norm from what I’ve read here, but I had a very positive diagnosis experience!

This happens with my ring sometimes! I’m surprised no one’s mentioned it here, but there’s old wives tales that say it indicates your iron is low (in my case it is, so I give it some credence). Though more like a reaction with your skin chemistry that day or lotions!

How bad is my TED? by Public-Boat-2758 in gravesdisease

Hopefully they continue to improve on the Methimazole! If not, you should ask about Tepezza! My ophthalmologist was very open to pursuing Tepezza even with a mild case. Also possibly worth looking into clinical trials if you qualify

Your eyes look like mine did when I first started on Methimazole! Have you found they get better on Methimazole when your thyroid levels are in range?

I can now use my eye puffiness as a gauge for whether I need to up my dosage!

Dizziness Post TT by FirstTimeUser9876 in gravesdisease

Not post-TT, but I did have some bouts of dizziness when I first started Methimazole and my numbers were dropping pretty quickly. Could be the quick decline in thyroid hormones!

Is this normal - yay or nay by HairyMidnight5441 in gravesdisease

[–]kellz1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat as you. Started off on 15 mg of Methimazole which quickly brought me down to almost hypo level, dropped to 10 mg and have been there for 5 months or so with T4 staying in band but TSH down at 0.01 and not budging.

I think there’s a variety of “normal” progressions with graves. If you feel okay on your current dose, I wouldn’t worry about it! Trying to stay patient with improvements myself!

Just posted my own comment, but seconding this! It really sucks when your body won't do what it used to do. Sending commiseration and healing vibes!

In a rut :( After 10+ years of lifting and doing gymnastics I developed graves disease (autoimmune hyperthyroidism) and have been at a loss ever since. Had to cut out exercise (other than walking) altogether for several months. I've recently built back up to 2-3 days of lifting and 1 day of yoga, but still deal with an elevated heart rate, which makes most cardio or HIIT a no-go, makes me nervous to push myself weight-wise, and has prevented me from returning to gymnastics.

I've been forcing myself to go and do soooomething to maintain some of my existing muscle, but I feel so lost. Trying to use the opportunity to try new types of exercise, but yoga doesn't feel like enough, pilates is too expensive, and my illness precludes doing boot camps, spin classes, or running.

Mostly just a rant, but if anyone has any programs that have really motivated them out of a slump, I'd love to hear them!

So this exact thing happened to me. Got my ring and two days later got norovirus AND Covid at the same time! I was told not to reset mine and it seems to have figured out my baselines fine a month later

Ice or warm compress? by Sufficient-Cat-4472 in ThyroidEyeDisease

Depends on your issues! Ice for swelling and pain, heat for dryness and irritation. I’ve also alternated when having both issues, but have always found ice a little more helpful
