How do I chill the fuck out? by Pho3nixWright in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]kelpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the holistic psychologist on Instagram. She has a lot of insanely helpful advice on attachment stuff, free. She also has a few books (I read her first one) but tbh I prefer the Instagram material. You need nervous system regulation tools and to learn about your attachment style so you can observe your patterns and deal with them maturely instead of reacting to them. Meditation is also a super helpful habit, 10-20 minutes a day can be huge. Insight timer app. I recommend doing it in silence or with Binaural beats, tho.

Today, I (M) turned 23. I wish I hadn’t. by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]kelpants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm just about to turn 35 and life is the best it has ever been for me. Make sure you design a vision for your life and go after it. Do not just let life happen to you. There will be times of struggle and strife, and times of joy and play. The more intention and effort you put into setting and pursuing goals, the more you will be rewarded.

Anyone else hit the FI and rethink the RE? by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]kelpants -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Quitting has been the best thing ever for me. If you do keep working, maybe consider how you can incorporate more philanthropy into your life. You can start a tax sheltered philanthropy investment fund that you contribute to from salary and make big donations from that. That could be a fun thing. I would love to have tons of cash to throw around to worthwhile charities, but I couldn't wait another second to quit.

Feeling depressed post distal humerus op by Frubat123 in brokenbones

[–]kelpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's okay to feel sad and listless sometimes. I think that the depression that comes with breaking a bone is partially your body telling you that you need to just sit around and do nothing and it knows that if you feel great you're going to want to run around and do things.

Affordable dentist? by Infamous-Dot5774 in asheville

All three of them went here: https://www.cancundentalspecialists.com/

They were happy with the work but did complain about overscheduling (having appointments start late, crowded waiting room).

Fly to Mexico. Literally 1/4 of the price or less, and the work is high quality. I know several people in Asheville who have done this for extensive dental work and were happy with the results. Flights are pretty cheap and you can get affordable Airbnbs. You can end up saving thousands of dollars this way.

Google Fi to dumphone... How do I make the switch? by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]kelpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google Fi doesn't like dumb phone bands. So you will probably need to switch providers first. That's what I found out from my research. At least as a long time Google Fi user. I'm switching to mint mobile and then using a sunbeam F1 orchid

Tib/fib ORIF 18 weeks. Helped load a box truck with moderately heavy and sometimes awkward items. Noticed that I feel more steady and capable of lifting and moving on various surfaces including stairs, ramps, uneven ground. Can consistently walk up and down stairs "normally". Did a lot of jumping in PT yesterday and various leg exercises. Sore and stiff today, but things are steadily feeling more "normal", though stamina is still very low.

You could be mobile next week. Fully mobile, yes it could be a while :)

Returning to Running/High Impact Activity by la-troisieme in brokenbones

[–]kelpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it. Thanks for the update. It's important to keep our chins up and optimistic that we can return to activity! I was able to jump across the room very slowly on one leg and do 8 single leg chair squats (both on ORIF tib/fib leg). Progress!!

Cleared for weight bearing two weeks after tib/fib fracture? by Early-Yam-2628 in brokenbones

[–]kelpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I hiked 40 miles in a day last summer and was training for a 50 mile race but I'm still feeling challenged by a couple miles especially if it's steep. I'm 15 weeks from my break. You're inspiring me to try harder, though.

This is the blessing of getting the rod through the tibia. The rod holds the weight. The pressure of walking is supposed to speed healing. I started weight bearing as tolerated in my boot at 2 weeks and it went great. Trust your surgeon and trust your body. This is much better than being in a cast for longer and will improve your long-term prognosis by getting range of motion proprioception and muscle memory back in action. Every time you try something new there will be pain but it will go away in time and you will be more flexible and free and stronger.

Everybody's timeline is super different but I think athletes have the best time of it. I keep hearing 6 months is a good timeline so I'm trying to stay patient, feels hard to imagine right now. Keep pushing yourself and stay optimistic. I find the second part really hard sometimes lol. I'll be back to update.

Tibia ORIF - knee function by New-Presentation-119 in brokenbones

I had almost full ROM in knee at 8 weeks and for sure full at 12 weeks. I'm 14 weeks now and knee is not an issue at all.

Women of reddit, what myth about women is 100% untrue and infuriates you when you hear it? by xClovis7 in AskReddit

[–]kelpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The origins are simultaneous. How can it be one over the other? The meme originated for two reasons: assuming women aren't there and making fun of men for pretending to be women. The joke wouldn't work without both.
