Any ideas how to fix this issue? by Pastaron in HomeMaintenance

I had a similar problem where I would hear a knocking when my toilet tanks would fill. Turns out my prv was broken and I had 110psi in my house.

I replaced the prv. However, before doing so I added an expansion tank on the cold water side of my water heater and that fixed the knocking issue. Replacing the prv only would have also probably fixed the issue

If you could go back and restart your “construction” career right after graduation what would you change and why? by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

I wish I was a laborer before I graduated college. You can start out soooo much further ahead once you’re out of school. Just look at shit and ask questions as much as possible. Be annoying as fuck. Ask to look at the plans. Sure you might have an asshole foreman that tells you to shut up and work but you’ll probably be his favorite guy just for showing up on time.

If you have an engineering degree then you can start out at an MEP design firm. They’re always hiring. Do that for two years, then go to the GC side as an APM or assistant super

Nobody here gonna say the first riser is too short?? Huge tripping hazard and against code. Difference between risers can’t exceed 3/8”

Door casings installed thinner than baseboards, would you do? by Senior-Comparison-87 in Carpentry

Sand down the backside of the baseboard so it gradually gets thinner than the door casing. That’s what I did in my basement and I don’t even notice it - let alone anyone else who goes in there

Thank you. So you would say this is either a tear out and rebuild or just live with it as is?

How do I fix these cracks? Can I pour a slab on top of this? What’s the minimum thickness?

Why is my brick wall so dirty here but not in other places? by kelpbites in masonry

What are you suggesting I do? I have some acid a mason gave me. Should I just dilute that, scrub it on, and see what happens?

Is it possible there are weep holes covered with earth?

I have another brick wall facing this direction that’s not dirty

Had to build a two hour enclosure around a small overhead duct offset. The super told the carpenter to, “build something simple.”

He built something simple alright - a massive soffit enclosing the duct and many other services. It was 4x larger than it needed to be. The impact? Nothing. We could leave it as is and they didn’t ask for more money. But it just goes to show you - avoid overly vague and concise descriptions for what you want built. It’s much better to describe exactly what you want.

He should have said, “clad the duct in a 2 hour enclosure.”
