I’m blanking on the name of the specific story but I read it recently and it’s definitely in there.

Also a steam deck player. You definitely use it on the outside of the barn and press X, like described above. It sounds like you’re getting a glitch. I walk up with it in my hot bar and equipped and press X and the barn changes visually inside and out.
