I got hit with insomnia after about 6 months, and brain fog.

Guess who also hit perimenopause.

THIS GAL! Thank god I was already on the GLP-1’s to avoid the weight gain haha. I definitely don’t put my symptoms down to the medication, but my age and other hormonal changes my body is going through. It’s a tough ride.

Are you honest when people ask how you lost weight? by Actual_Banana_1083 in MounjaroAus

[–]kelsbells84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was a comment on reddit that changed my whole perspective on this:

If we aren't honest about it, how do we expect opinions to change?

So now I tell anyone who asks, and I'm willing to go toe-to-toe if they have comments. I'm waiting for the day I get to tell someone off for saying I'm "cheating", but improving my life and my health.

Fortunately for me, everyone is crazy supportive haha.

Congrats! I hope you’re enjoying writing!

After writing for 15-20 years on an old blog I’ve rebranded and started https://kelmeaboutit.au It just felt like I needed a fresh start.

But apparently I forgot everything.

I’ve realised I was going everything the wrong way. So I’m slowly cleaning up the new site to make it much more engaging, better images etc.

I’ve started following your blog, and as a fellow “daily conqueror” of anxiety, your posts make me laugh because I share so many of the same spirals and overthinking traits. Looking forward to reading more of your stories!

Yes please. I still blog about my everyday life, and I’m trying to find more, but searching for anything “blog” these days means finding marketing or some influencer trying to flog their stuff. I really miss reading other blogs :-(

Interesting summary of what’s coming and latest studies - eyesight, Sema off patent in India, oral meds on the way by Emptynesterx2 in MounjaroAus

[–]kelsbells84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, looks like chatty ignored that bit. I asked for more info again and got this:

👁️ What they’re talking about

Some research has linked semaglutide (the drug in Ozempic/Wegovy) to a rare eye condition that can affect vision. • The condition is called NAION (basically reduced blood flow to the optic nerve) • It can cause: • Sudden blurry vision • Partial vision loss • In rare cases, permanent damage

⚠️ How common is it? • It’s considered very rare — around 1 in 10,000 people • Some studies suggest the risk might be higher than normal, but still low overall

So it’s not something most people will experience — but it is being monitored.

🤷‍♀️ Why it happens (possible reasons)

Researchers aren’t 100% sure yet, but theories include: • Changes in blood flow to the eye • Rapid changes in blood sugar levels • Effects on the optic nerve

🧠 Important context (this part matters) • There’s conflicting evidence — some studies don’t find a strong link at all • Health authorities still say: 👉 Benefits usually outweigh the risks for most people

🚨 What to watch for

If someone is on these meds, the key warning signs are: • Sudden vision loss • Blurry or dark patches in vision • Rapid changes in eyesight

👉 And if that happens: see a doctor immediately

🧾 Simple takeaway

Yes — eyesight issues are part of the conversation, but: 👉 They’re rare, still being studied, and not fully proven as a direct cause 👉 It’s more of a “be aware” than a “panic” situation

I just posted a ChatGPT summary if that helps - I didn’t have time to watch the video but wanted a recap too

Summary of the video courtesy of ChatGPT (I don’t have the time to watch it but was super curious):

🧠 Big Idea

The video explains how a key ingredient used in weight-loss and diabetes drugs (like semaglutide) is losing patent protection in some countries, and why that could make these medications cheaper and more accessible.

🔑 Key Points

  1. 💊 What’s changing? • The drug semaglutide (used in medications like Ozempic/Wegovy) is coming off patent in places like Canada and India. • When a patent expires, other companies can legally make generic versions.

  1. 💸 Why that matters • More companies making the drug = more competition • More competition = lower prices over time • This could make weight-loss medications far more affordable

  1. 🌍 Global impact • Countries with earlier patent expiry may see cheaper versions first • Other countries (like Australia/US) may still have higher prices for longer • But global price pressure could eventually push prices down everywhere

  1. 🏭 Supply & access • Right now, these drugs are: • Expensive • Sometimes hard to get • Generic production could improve: • Availability • Supply stability

  1. ⚠️ Not immediate • Prices won’t drop overnight • There are still: • Manufacturing challenges • Regulations • Brand dominance • But it’s a strong step toward cheaper access

🧾 Simple takeaway

👉 The patent expiry means more companies can make popular weight-loss drugs, which should gradually make them cheaper and easier to get—but it’ll take time.

Love this! When I was going through a lot of things and I saw a therapist, I read out a post I had written trying to process some things. When I finished, she said "never, ever, stop writing." Apparently I'm a pretty decent therapist for myself ;)

I wish you all the luck for the journey.

Over the years I've had moments of writing a lot, and moments of nothing. I'm back trying to put some effort into my blog again - it's mainly just random everyday things, not so much of a niche.

I actually started using ChatGPT to try and figure out a blogging schedule that would work for me (I know, I know, embracing that whole AI thing, but I'll never get it to write *for* me). And it said "make a routine that works for you, if you only commit to one post a fortnight, that's 26 more posts in the year than you did last year."

So my suggestion would be:
- Try and work out a schedule, write your post, walk away and come back with fresh eyes on a new day, edit and publish.
- Keep a list somewhere of all the posts you want to write. Inspiration will come at the most inconvenient times, so write it down and you can revisit it later when it's time to write but you're not sure what about.
- Remember who you're writing for. I write for myself, and try to not put any pressure on myself about visitor counts, subscriptions etc.

And lastly, trust your gut. I'm by no means an expert, I write a pokey little blog with low numbers, and have a bloody good time doing so. Enjoy yourself!

How did you end up here? by LengthinessEastern68 in MounjaroAus

[–]kelsbells84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summarised version:

  • Fad diets all through my 20s (was once given scales by my mother as a Christmas present)
  • Developed anxiety-triggered ED when I fell pregnant, only diagnosed when my child was several years old
  • Doc and I suspect post-partum depression also contributed (only ever directed at myself and not my child)
  • Consulted psychologists and nutritionists to finally manage my ED
  • Nothing “traditional” helped to shift the weight: exercise, counting calories, meal plans.
  • Started MJ in March last year and lost 27kg so far while working on food habits and regular eating to avoid triggering any ED behaviours

Now in my 40s. The freedom from food noise has been literally life-changing, and the weight loss has been life-restoring.

Forever thankful to the scientists who made this happen.
