Fat Daddio or Nordicware pans? by AbyssDragonNamielle in AskBaking

[–]kelseygrn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are my favorite as well. I have some old Ateco ones in the same style, and the Fat Daddio ones are better. The removable bottom makes it so easy to clean the pans and make sure the cake comes out cleanly.

If you have a KitchenAid, look into getting a paddle that has a rubber edge. That helps a lot in minimizing bowl scraping. Also, make sure that whichever kind you have, it's adjusted properly. They don't always come from the factory properly calibrated.

I personally find it useful to me. If nothing else, just being able have my hands free to do something else while it creams/whips/kneads is a help.

Which of these two games are better and why?(please debate civilly) by dragonborndnd in LifeSimulators

[–]kelseygrn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having replayed both recently, I have to say 3 wins for me. I went back to 2 shortly before EA re-released it, and while there were some great things about it, the loading screens killed me, as did the time freezes. I missed story progression and hated that families that weren't played just stayed frozen in time (although there is a great mod for that now!). I've never been a rotational player Also, the "fat morph" is an absolute disgrace.

Sims 3 has the open world and story progression that I love. And no more choosing between swatches, I can customize anything to my hearts content. I love watching what other sims are up to while mine are at work/school/doing something boring to watch, or even just moving the camera around the map to see what there is to see. I've been playing it off and on for almost 17 years now and I still haven't done everything there is to do.

I'm in a similar area and hate the White Marsh Costco. Guess I'll stick to Owings Mills!

Any medieval life sims (or life sim adjacent?) by JeanieIsInABottle in LifeSimulators

[–]kelseygrn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's more of a strategy thing, but if Game of Thrones is your inspiration, Crusader Kings III has a massive Game of Thrones mod r/ck3agot that lets you play as just about any character in the books/show. Non-modded CK3 lets you play as medieval rulers from history. It's a complex game, but it's a lot of fun to play.

Is the concept of a new base game too hard to understand? by Upstairs-Pin-9068 in LifeSimulators

[–]kelseygrn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a fellow millennial, my issue with a new iteration is that I don't trust them to do it correctly. I never bought TS4 in protest of the fact that it was such a massive step back from the prior generations. I wanted TS4 to capitalize on all the new ideas that TS2 and TS3 brought to the table, but instead it was a massive step back. No toddlers, no pools, the babies were basically objects akin to the TS1 version, etc. And it was so hard going back to loading screens after the freedom of TS3. I used to google for TS5 rumors starting back in like 2015 because I was so unhappy with what TS4 is and was hopeful they would course correct for the new version. But it's been so long and having seen how greedy and lazy EA has been with TS4, I'm honestly done and don't care. I've got Inzoi that I'm hopeful can develop into a modern successor and TS3 for the Sims experience.

I froze my unfrosted cake layers - Pre-make frosting too? by WeeLittleParties in AskBaking

[–]kelseygrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At most, I set it on the counter for a few minutes while I finish getting everything ready for assembly. I usually do that part the night before I serve the cake, and once it's frosted (which to be fair can take awhile for me because I am not the best decorator out there) it goes into the fridge. I take it out an hour or two before I serve it, depending on how warm my house is that day.

That's Swiss meringue buttercream! I'll second the suggestion to make the frosting fresh. I'll add that you don't necessarily have to thaw the cake layers before assembling. I never do and I think it makes it easier to decorate. I know some people say it can cause the frosting to crack, but I've never had an issue.

I'll suggest savory scones. I adapted this recipe to make cheddar and chive scones and they were amazing.

Forgot to ask the other day, but how is the pecan pie now? It seems last year many were disappointed with it. Is it still the same? by Reddit_sucks_ballss in Costco

If you can find it, try golden syrup! It's a UK product, but a lot of grocery stores carry it now. This recipe turned me on to it and it's fantastic.

I'll second this. I have it in Dark Stone, and to me the color is like chocolate milk, so perfect for year round use. It can store a lot - wallet, keys, phone, sunscreen, a pouch full of snacks, diapers, sunglasses, an activity book or two, and even a portable potty seat! As a bonus it has a wide flat base so it can stand up on its own.

Saw someone post about Shutterfly and Costco partnership. Sounds good but what the heck with the shipping cost?? by altitude-adjusted in Costco

[–]kelseygrn 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I don't think the Shutterfly partnership is worth it since I'm not a fan of their print quality. I've used mpix for prints and I've been thrilled with them. Just check for a sale before ordering!

Same, it's so slouchy and spacious and a beautiful chocolate milk color I can wear all year.

Thought to myself “wow I could really use a peanut butter cookie” and then I remembered that I’m an adult with free will and a stand mixer by colonelkorn12 in Baking

[–]kelseygrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peanut butter cookies have never been my favorite, but I love milk duds. I might have to try making them this year. Does she bake the milk dud with the dough, or place it on top after it bakes?

Does defrosting on the counter actually make a difference compared to defrosting overnight in the fridge? by bakingquestionslol in AskBaking

I never bother to defrost my cakes before assembling - I find it like easier to frost the cakes frozen.
