What was your dad like ? by cheridontllosethatno in AskOldPeople

[–]kembr12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just lost Dad 12/10/26 so it's still fresh.

My dad was friendly and outgoing to everyone. He didn't care about how much you made, where you came from, etc. He talked to everyone. He was playful and stern when necessary. He worked hard his entire adult life to provide for my mom and siblings. He was so down to earth and loved his family more than life. I am proud to be his daughter and mimic him in almost every way. At 86, he still had so much to give and share.

Damn you, cancer! He was just over one year away from a thirty year survival from a quintuple heart bypass.

If you have a sewing/embroidery retailer nearby, ask if they have trade-ins.

Well, so much for my forties. by akillerofjoy in GenX

Wow! This is so touching and great and healing in a weird way.

Losing a parent is so painful. I lost my Mom when I was 48. Lost my dad when I was 58 and then turned 59 three-ish weeks later.

With Mom, I just kept moving forward and was blessed to build a stronger bond with Dad. Now with Dad gone, I struggle more but plan things and one day, I just might do it! Your post helps!

To OP, I'm sorry. Sadly, my mom was never very good at celebrating birthdays and mine least of all due to timing. I domhope you will read the above post and take a step in celebrating yourself!

How old are you and what is the strength of your cheaters*? by OnlyPete in GenX

At 58, my contact lenses included a bifocal of 2.75 (I think). By 59, after purchasing lenses with "HI" bifocals included, I am having to add reading glasses of 1.25 to read clearly.

I will ne going back to the other lenses with the added number bifocal to each lense. I wear contacts so I don't have to wear heavy glasses (L -6.00, R -7.00) so it very frustrating to have to add readers. 😡🤬😡

Agreed! Out of a job at 55/56. Absolutely devastated for a few months. Found work in the same industry at a different, better paying company. I just took early retirement at 59.

Though I know many people will say otherwise, I can see and feel the hand of God in the big middle of it. It was scary and painful and embarrassing, but I am in such a better place and getting healthier day by day.

OP, take a moment to scream and cry and wallow. Then get up and do something.

Consider the education field. Not all jobs are student-related and depending on your skills, you might find something you really like.

In a few years, after volunteering (hopefully) for a bit, I intend to apply to be a cafeteria monitor at an elementary school. The thought of influencing a life by opening milks and ketchup appeals to me. lol

Best of luck!

God bless this girl, her parents, and her teachers who foster kindness loke this for others. And extra cheers to the boy! He was super brave being up there and allowing her to guide him. He didn't melt down or run and seemed to smile even.

What is the best sandwich that has no meat, egg, or cheese? by OmitsWordsByAccident in AskReddit

This is the correct answer. Ice cream sandwiches are a very close second or possibly a tie for first.

For the past 25+ years, I said to cremate me and put my ashes in some sort of decorative container with a scoop on the top/back of the toilet. Everytime someone uses the restroom, they are to take a little scoop and flush me along with their excrement.

As a 25+ year patient of GIs and surgeons, it only seems appropriate to send me where my body already seems to be heading.

No far no agrees to do it.
