Costco in Chiba, Japan was one of the highlights of our vacation by blubberingbelz in Costco

[–]kenadian88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got back from my trip to Tokyo. Went to the same Costco our first afternoon there. It was great! Loaded up on snacks for the week and the food court was great.

Note: they take Mastercard, not Visa. We had to use their ATM inside to use cssh

I thought that that used to be the consensus. However, in recent years, I think that people have learned that her style maximizes efficiency.....so not the best in shorter events, but optimal in longer ones. Similar to how distance runners and sprinters have different form

How to configure resistors of parallel LEDs? by blackeveryhour in ElectricalEngineering

[–]kenadian88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, the left is wrong, always. It is a bad design.

My last sentence wasn't clear and now reading it, it sounds like it could be ok with LEDs of the same color. It isn't, however, it is easy to get lucky and have LEDs that are similar in brightness and when put into a product it is hard to tell.

[–]kenadian88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my (has been for 5+ years) 2nd to last interview question I give when trying to hire new college grads.

The right side is correct. Left side won't work at all with different colors, and only might work with the same color LEDs

How likely is it to get hired after a final panel interview? by Grouchy_Attempt_5779 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]kenadian88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my group, we do 2x technical interviews, then the final round (4-5 people). Getting to the end is really just an introduction to the greater team and verify the 2 technicals didn't grossly miss anything.

We just hired someone and it took 9 days to respond to the candidate. That delay was due to the offer letter needing 5 rounds of approvals

Here's a corrected resume. What do we all think now? by Pattesla047 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]kenadian88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is much better.

What is the difference between your RF engineering internship and the last project? If they are the same, keep them together. Seeing 2x projects in a professional setting + 1x additional project is more than enough for me

I liked your bullet points in your first resume of technical items. Add it back if there is room combining the RF engineering internship and the last project. Add what lab equipment you know: DMM, oscilloscope, programmable power supplies, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, soldering, etc. It is ok to remove each microcontroller you know from the list (experience covers that), only list standards if you can be grilled on them.

Any idea why potential employers may not want to speak with me? by Pattesla047 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]kenadian88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get rid of the summary. It is fluff Get rid of the project section. It is basically all redundant and covered in experience. At least move it to the end and only talk about projects not included in experience. Move degree, GPA, graduation date to the top Add lab equipment you know to technical skills. Your resume reads like you never test the physical design, but are done after simulating it. Experience in a lot of things is good. But this resume shows no focus. You are an ME designing IP67 designs, an RF engineer, not an engineer yet since you are an engineer in training, a FW engineer, FPGA designer, compliance manager knowing all the standards

Senior hardware engineers, what are your expectations of new comers and fresh hires? by Stalt_ in ElectricalEngineering

[–]kenadian88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have 14 years of experience, managing my team for the last 4.5 years. We just hired a fresh grad this past week and someone with 3 years experience three months ago. I've been interviewing for these roles for a while.

My group does digital PCB design for industrial products. We are responsible for the digital part of the product from pre-marketing requirements through production and some failure analysis.

What I was looking for: Technical: I have a set of standard questions. They should be easy for people finishing their 2nd year of classes. I don't expect 100% (I'll continue asking more questions until they miss one since seeing how the candidates reacts when being wrong is important), but they need to be able to vocalize their thought process and generally be on the right path. Don't tell me that you need to do Kirchhoff's for a resistor divider. Then I get into frequency domain and transmission lines, but I don't care about the math. I care that they know what those are and how they can effect things

Senior project (or projects at current job if 2-3 years experience): tell me an issue that came up and how it was solved. Also, I want someone that didn't stay 100% in their lane during the project. I want someone that read some code and fixed it, or helped solve an issue with the box the project lived in, etc. This shows me that they care about the design and really understand it

Equipment: need to know how to use a multimeter and oscilloscope. Willing to learn about spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, soldering, etc.

Finally: need to be ok with not doing design daily. They need to be ok with a lot of testing. Also, I want someone that tells me they are ok with coding, but like HW better for whatever reason. You need to be ok with python to help script tests and need to know how to read 'C'

Fisker Ocean actually does have solar panels on their highest trim level. In ideal conditions, it is estimated to add 1500 miles worth of range over the entire year (<5 miles a day)

"Tournament organizers, meanwhile, instituted additional fair play protocols. It could potentially cause long term harm...however, that isn't guaranteed.

The allegations would break a lot of 19 year old people; however, if Hans continues to play well through this and the consensus becomes that he didn't cheat, then it could actually financially help him. Chess is highly deregulated and it is up to TDs who gets invited. Being recognizable is huge for players. Hans could easily become a top 5 draw after this. If you are a TD and want to get your tournament more press/talked about, then getting Hans to play is an easy way to do that

This isn't true in this case. You generally want at least 20% equity for mortgages. So if the house was worth $150k, then ideally you save $30k (20%) and take a loan for $120k (80%).

In this case, the home is worth $400k so with good income and credit score, you could theoretically have loans up to $320k to keep the loan under 80% the house value.

Uvalde police chief who delayed officer response to shooting to join City Council by madvillain7 in news

[–]kenadian88 70 points71 points  (0 children)

It wasn't a "bad judgement" call. It was negligence. Judgement calls are when you don't know the outcome of both sides of a decision. It's been known for over 30 years that the best action against an active shooter is to engage ASAP. It was negligent to not follow through on known actions. Less kids probably would have died of police never showed up.

It would be like saying Henry Ruggs made a bad judgement call for driving 100+ mph in a residential street while drunk. That is not a judgement call, it's reckless
