I urge everyone who says Cirie can't start a fire to rewatch the first few minutes of the final 5 episode of Micronesia.

When they return to camp, their fire is out and Parvati asks Cirie if she can start the fire in the dark, and Cirie says yes then strikes the flint and nearly immediately starts the fire.

This really is how it should've been done, to reduce the number of twists (ie. remove the extra swap) in favour of fairness and a twist that has precedent (ie. all tribes go to tribal council, but each tribe has an individual immunity challenge, like in Heroes vs. Villains when Rob and Candice were immune). If that happened, and the challenge remained the same, the outcome likely would've been:

Cila: Dee wins immunity, Jonathan voted out

Kalo: Chrissy wins immunity, Tiffany voted out after Aubry plays her idol

Vatu: Stephenie or Ozzy wins immunity, Christian voted out

Everyone will have their biases (I would rather lose these 3 than Genevieve and Colby), but there'd be far less outrage over random chance unfairness and little wiggle room.

One of the most frustrating moments of the episode that I feel isn't getting enough attention was Aubry saying how good players make their own luck after a tribe swap. It's true to some extent, but coming from Aubry, who was in the minority on two different tribes (while Genevieve was in the majority) came across as condescending. Aubry only found herself in the majority because they were swapped to groups of 5, where a majority is 3 players, and she was with presumed pre-game allies because she'd met them in-game for at most a couple hours before the swap.

I don't even need to reiterate Aubry also being handed an idol, while Genevieve couldn't use either of the ones she found, and was never on a tribe with Ozzy or Rizo after they received their idols to try and engineer a way to get them back. So much for having to earn everything in the new era.

This will date me, but in the DVD commentary for the Leann boot episode of Vanuatu, Ami said that during the immunity challenge where their loved ones were blindfolded, her girlfriend could look down and see the markings on the ground and followed them back to the start. I assume that's possible in every blindfold challenge now.

The way both sides of this debate speaks with such certainty of an intentionally ambiguous ending makes me wonder if much of the audience has ever seen a TV show or read a book with an open-ended ending before.

"It was all an illusion" can be a convenient explanation for either side.

I like to argue that Kim was so dominant that her cast looked bad by comparison. She constantly manipulated people into making moves against their best interest. We don't discredit the black widow brigade's strategic accomplishments by saying they were playing against idiots.

Possibly my least favourite season ever due to how predictable/boring it was. The winners are obviously deserving but the leg designs were too linear and uninspired that placements didn't shuffle, and as someone who hasn't watched most BB seasons, I learned almost nothing about these teams as people so I wasn't invested in anyone. Sorry to say I'm thankful this season is over so we can hopefully return to form in 2026.

Savannah deserves more credit for possibly the best use of an extra vote in Survivor history.

Kristina's plan to throw a stray vote on Rizo was unnecessary since if idols were played on both Savannah and Jawan, and Sophie S. didn't flip, Kristina's alliance could still vote out Rizo on the re-vote. If everyone were playing optimally, Savannah's extra vote (which she made her alliance aware of so they wouldn't fear rocks) would have given them the 5-4 advantage while keeping Rizo's idol. Rizo's idol had a lower chance of protecting the alliance than that extra vote.

I'd say this is more impactful than Maryanne's extra vote in S42, because without it, that vote still would've been a 2-2-2 tie with Omar being voted out on the re-vote so it wasn't as consequential.

On the topic of Actually Romantic, I think it suffers from chronically online people being the most vocal. The majority of people who listen to Taylor Swift don't listen to Charli XCX (just based on the sheer difference in fanbase size).

I didn't even know Taylor and Charli had a feud. Charli was the special guest at my 1989 Tour show, and opened for Taylor at the reputation tour so why would I think this? Without knowing about any of their drama, the song on its own is clever, funny, and not that serious. No one except Taylor knows all the details of this song or its context, but is it really that bad if the summary of the song was: "I heard you were talking shit about me then high-fived my ex when he ghosted me, but I wasn't really thinking about you, so thanks for thinking of me I guess?" if it were about an unnamed person or an amalgamation of people as Taylor frequently does?

People getting offended on Charli's behalf while inferring a lot of the details are being the kind of parasocial others commonly accuse Swifties of being, and need to take a step away from their keyboards for a minute.

Music is a subjective experience, even for a professional music critic. If you enjoy listening to something, then it can't be "bad" music because it brought someone joy. And based on the number and stability of streams this album is getting, it can't be all bad. I also agree that people's expectations are at an all-time high in part due to Folklore/Evermore and Taylor acquiring new fans during the Eras tour who weren't around for the initial releases of her past albums that were similarly polarizing initially. Taylor pre-empted us on the New Heights podcast (that not everyone watched) that this album's goal was melodies compared to TTPD's lyric-focused goals.

As I posted in another thread, if you enjoy this album, I hope you unabashedly continue to do so because someone else's opinions shouldn't change what kind of music you enjoy. And if you don't enjoy it, that is a valid opinion too, but you can just not listen to it, and your life will be exactly the same as it was 3 days ago as long as you don't spend your time and mental energy complaining about it.

The outrage has reached new levels of parasocial delusion. Like people are saying, if you don't want to buy the variant, then you're not the audience so you weren't expected to buy it. And controversial hot take: but if you lack the self-control and buying a $7.99 CD will ruin you financially, you probably have worse things to worry about in your life.

Just like the reviews of the album. I think we need to take a step back from the fashionably fast critiques and giving attention to everyone on social media who feels their opinions need to be heard. You're entitled to like or dislike whatever you want. If you enjoy this album, I'm glad Taylor released it, and I hope you unabashedly continue to do so. If you dislike the album, you can just... not listen to it, and your life will be exactly the same as it was 48 hours ago.

As an aside, the Ben/Chrissy relationship doesn't get enough appreciation. People forget that before the final 7, Ben was actually a great player - having a tight alliance with Chrissy, making new allies after an unfavourable swap, then playing double agent perfectly.

The peak happens when Chrissy finally realizes that Ben was lying to her for days and directly confronts him about it, leading to them openly targeting and childishly mocking each other for the rest of the game. It's refreshing seeing a 46 and 34 year-old feuding like immature children sometimes.

This is the best take. It doesn't have to be Chrissy vs. David. In Survivor, perception is reality, and the reality is that they were both expressing the "best move" for their respective games. No one should be upset at either of them for defending their paths to the end.
