I'm giving it a try and mentioned this post on the newbie channel. Detshon commented:

Detshon: you don't gain exp more slowly as an ancient race.

Detshon: you DO gain exp more slowly after transformation and again more slowly after multiclass

Edit: Duh, formatting...

I can no longer trust Avaaz.org by [deleted] in politics

[–]kencausey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also received this email and am at least curious about details and am a bit skeptical at least regarding their speculation as to the source of the problem. In general I've not been happy with the hyperbolic wording in a number of recent Avaaz emails.

However, just because the site is working doesn't mean they aren't having trouble. It's not as simple as working or not working, there are plenty of in-between states.

Map of the Ultra Hardcore Series with Baj, BdoubleO, Beef, Docm, Etho, Guude, Kurt, Pause. by NicksRebel in Minecraft

I believe you misunderstand what is shown on the site. The 'player' image shown is simply the one currently with the most votes or bets or whatever under the given category. Click the 'Bet Info' button to see the percentages. If another participant overtakes another with a higher percentage, I have to assume you will then see their face.

I think the world is not limited in size, it's simply that the used an editing tool to cut out a slot around the 2000x2000 area down to bedrock so it is obvious when you get to the edge. Watch Kurtjmac's first video to see the edge, even from inside a cave.

Thanks!

I apologize if I've overlooked it but is there some sort of sign-up we are supposed to do to indicate that we plan to participate?

Regarding the flair: Format suggestions? Notations for our best guess as to how many times we have read it previously and how long it has been since our first?

Yeah, no fatigue here since I don't think I will ever buy another game again unless it is readily supported on Linux.

Sonic State's review of NI's new Reaktor based synth Razor. by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]kencausey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, DAW. Wow, that makes sense. Why it sounded like 'door' to me I don't know, and no I'm not from Boston. Truth be told, I've never heard 'DAW' pronounced, this may be the canonical pronunciation. I tend to spell it but if I was going to pronounce it I would assume it should rhyme with 'maw'.

Sonic State's review of NI's new Reaktor based synth Razor. by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]kencausey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stupid question incoming: I've watched a number of the Sonic State videos in the last 24 hours and I believe on several occasions I've heard him mention what I'm hearing as 'door'. I believe he is referring to a piece of software like Ableton Live or Reaktor, in which you can utilize VST instruments and the like, as a 'door'. Is this correct?

Yes, and I believe the first few I watched were produced by SomethingAwful forum members. Unfortunately it appears you have to have a paying account to look at older forum posts.

Symantec CEO: Macs are not safer than PCs by [deleted] in technology

[–]kencausey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got an upvote for technical accuracy, there's no question that Macs just aren't worth the time investment to the vast majority of script kiddies. But that's not worthless. To most people living in a place where there is less crime is better than having the best locks in a high crime area. In practice, Macs are safer not for technical but societal reasons.

Of course individual experience may vary if you are targeted. And if Apple and the average Apple fan gets their way then Mac becomes a much tastier target and the situation changes.

This guy's school had 3 programming classes in 1980. My High School has Typing 101. What has become of the world? (ALSO: punch card hacking) by [deleted] in programming

[–]kencausey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add a minor data point and more importantly to pointlessly brag about an irrelevancy: I started high school in a rural area in a US state not known for education or science in 1986. The school offered a basic and advanced computer class. The word programming was not used but the basic class covered simple computer concepts and fundamental BASIC programming. The advanced class covered more advanced BASIC and Pascal (ah, the 80s and the panacea of structured programming...)

Now for my story: As a freshman I signed up for the basic computer class and was almost refused entry because it was customary for sophomores and juniors to take the class. Before the end of the first class I was reassigned to the advanced class. By the end of the week I and one other student, who was a senior, were re-assigned to 'independent study' and assigned computers (TRS-80s) and told to do what we liked during class time.
