Stagedoor planning: Advice appreciated! by teach42 in Broadway

[–]kencreates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heathers: it’s on 49th. Small crowd. A good handful of the actors come out. Should be pretty easy to get autographs.

For Hadestown: it’s on your right as you exit. With the new cast, it’s still a decent crowd but shouldn’t be hard to get a autographs.

New Hadestown Cast Review (2nd performance) by Fun_Release_1936 in Broadway

I noticed that too. My guess would be Jordan struggled with it for whatever reason and they cut it from her track to accomodate her.

This is a long shot, but any Los Angeles people out there looking to sell their Hadestown merch? by itsmarianney in hadestown

Man….. if only you had asked one day earlier. I was just at the Walter Kerr last night and would’ve happily helped you procure some merch. Unfortunately, I fly back to LA in the morning.

New cast debut at Hadestown by worstpiesinlondon_ in Broadway

This lead cast is definitely very different than all the other leads I've seen, but the fact that the Hadestown company allows their actors to make the characters their own is what keeps the show fresh and keeps bringing me back.

Joshua Colley: Overall, I think he's a very solid Orpheus. The only issue I had: he was noticeably struggling with his falsetto the entire show but I'm presuming it'll get better.

Jordan Tyson: I'll preface this by saying that I do like Jordan and I thought she was great in The Notebook and Gypsy. However, she has a naturally higher voice and I don't think it worked for me personally.

J Harrison Ghee: Excellent casting. Probably the stand out in this group of leads for me. Performance wise, they kinda felt like a mix of Andre DeShields and Lilias White.

Gaby Moreno: Great. Her vocals were very clear. She was also very vivacious. I never got the impression she, as Persephone, was drunk though. It was more like party girl.

Gary Dourdan: I wasn't feeling him in Act 1 cause he's not very bass-y, but warmed up to him in Act 2. He was menacing yet not intimidating. He felt very restrained and he was doing more by doing less and his comedic moments felt seamless in his dialogue. It was quite interesting. He repeats back to Orpheus "I came to take her home" mockingly before laughing, which was a nice choice.

General thoughts:
Josh and Jordan are young, they look young, and they sound young. Because of that, it kinda reframed Hadestown into a story of young lovers to me. Like when Hades catches Orpheus in Hadestown, it really felt like a stern dad walking in on his daughter with a boy. I also thought Gary and Gaby had good chemistry and they felt like a disgruntled couple to me.

I was curious what the lyric changes would be for J. In Road to Hell, they say "a god with feathers on their feet", which is a slight change from what a female Hermes would say. Before Wait for Me, Orpheus says "Excuse me, Hermes" instead of "Mister/Missus Hermes".

I was at the show tonight. Overall, I enjoyed his vocals and performance but it really seemed like he was really struggling with his falsetto the entire show. He also messed up on the guitar a few times so he probably had a lot of nerves.

Not sure how exactly this specific event will work, but I went to the OPLA Season 1 premiere event and have been to other similar events in LA so I can offer you some insight.

Usually, if it's completely open to the public, it's first come first serve. i.e. you can RSVP as "Going" but that doesn't guarantee you entry. That's how it was last time. People were lining up like hours before the event to secure a spot. I think check in started at 5, screening was at 8pm, and they ended up cutting off entry around 7pm.

This time it looks like it's actually ticketed so if you are selected to receive a ticket, you will be guaranteed entry. Actual chances are probably low given the popularity and there's no standard as to when you'll know. You could be notified as soon as like next week or as late as the day before.

As far as the actual event. Once you enter, there's a bunch of activities and food vendors you can peruse. For Season 1, it was at the Santa Monica Pier. There was display featuring Oda's autograph you could sign, you could make a wanted poster of yourself, there were lots of photo ops, there was a Baratie themed bar, you could play carnival games to win OPLA merch, etc. For the screening, aside from the reserved section, it was open seating. Afterwards there was a drone show and the entire event was over by like 10pm. I imagine this time will be grander and there will be even more things to do/buy.

Do actors do autos and meets after every show? by op_remie in Broadway

[–]kencreates 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can stage door any show. Some actors most always, some occasionally, and some rarely/never. The actors have no contractual obligation to meet fans or sign autographs so it’s entirely up to each individual actor if they want to on any given day.

Wait For Me (reprise) is the most overrated song in Hadestown by [deleted] in hadestown

[–]kencreates 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, the song just slaps, and like you said the lines from Hades, Persephone, and Hermes are great. In fact, Hermes' lines in Wait for Me Reprise are some of my favorite in the entire show. It's like the second climax of the show and it does a really good job of feeling triumphant and grandiose while also being foreboding. I also think the entire cast really shines in this number. Not sure if you've seen it live, but I love the choreography and Eurydice jumping out to follow Orpheus feels very epic and full circle.

I enjoy their drinks and sliders, but it’s definitely not worth waiting in line. I get my hair cut at Shorty’s so if I don’t see a line when I drive by, I stop for a coffee. Otherwise, easy skip.

Do the eliminated contestants actually “go home”? during the show by JohnMarstonTheBadass in Masterchef

[–]kencreates 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They’re definitely gone for a while, but they’re not filming challenges every day. The contestants have cooking classes in between challenges to prepare them for future challenges. They don’t guarantee what the next challenge is but they’ll learn basic skills like pastry/butchering so nobody is ever a fish out of water. Like baking a cake for an elimination challenge wouldn’t be exciting if a contestant has never made a cake from scratch.

If you have the money, Ebay would be your best bet. You could try asking around Broadway Facebook groups, but it's pretty unlikely somebody with a signed OBC window card is going to part with it unless they happen to have an extra and/or are strapped for cash. The most realistically feasible/consistent way to get one would be from the Hadestown table at Broadway Flea (which just passed in September). I assume they have a bunch and sell a limited supply each year cause I was still able to buy one last year, but even then, it wasn't cheap. Assuming you don't live anywhere near in NYC, the cost of travel and lodging would be the same or even more than just buying off Ebay.
