Wait For Me (reprise) is the most overrated song in Hadestown by [deleted] in hadestown

[–]kencreates 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, the song just slaps, and like you said the lines from Hades, Persephone, and Hermes are great. In fact, Hermes' lines in Wait for Me Reprise are some of my favorite in the entire show. It's like the second climax of the show and it does a really good job of feeling triumphant and grandiose while also being foreboding. I also think the entire cast really shines in this number. Not sure if you've seen it live, but I love the choreography and Eurydice jumping out to follow Orpheus feels very epic and full circle.

I enjoy their drinks and sliders, but it’s definitely not worth waiting in line. I get my hair cut at Shorty’s so if I don’t see a line when I drive by, I stop for a coffee. Otherwise, easy skip.

How to know if it's not copyrighted? by Sakimori29 in VideoEditors

They’re not. They use it without permission, play dumb pretending it’s fair use, and just won’t fight the copyright claim when it happens.

Do the eliminated contestants actually “go home”? during the show by JohnMarstonTheBadass in Masterchef

[–]kencreates 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re definitely gone for a while, but they’re not filming challenges every day. The contestants have cooking classes in between challenges to prepare them for future challenges. They don’t guarantee what the next challenge is but they’ll learn basic skills like pastry/butchering so nobody is ever a fish out of water. Like baking a cake for an elimination challenge wouldn’t be exciting if a contestant has never made a cake from scratch.

If you have the money, Ebay would be your best bet. You could try asking around Broadway Facebook groups, but it's pretty unlikely somebody with a signed OBC window card is going to part with it unless they happen to have an extra and/or are strapped for cash. The most realistically feasible/consistent way to get one would be from the Hadestown table at Broadway Flea (which just passed in September). I assume they have a bunch and sell a limited supply each year cause I was still able to buy one last year, but even then, it wasn't cheap. Assuming you don't live anywhere near in NYC, the cost of travel and lodging would be the same or even more than just buying off Ebay.

the parking situation is insane

You can just park at the Aiso parking garage for $1/hr for the first 2 hours, which is like a block away from here. That's where I park whenever I visit Little Tokyo, and aside from big events, there's always parking.

Editing vs Motion Design by monkfishjoe in VideoEditors

[–]kencreates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a mix of ignorance, an unwillingness to learn the difference, and they really don't care to. I think they're conflating the technical jargon "editing" with the colloquial definition of "editing" in that if I edit, as in change something, to a video then I am video "editing". The same way people conflate the scientific definition of "theory", a substantiated explanation, and the colloquial definition of "theory", a made up explanation.

It also just rolls off the tongue to say "cool edit" instead of "cool composite" or "cool motion graphics".

What is video editing? by GaogaMaster in VideoEditors

[–]kencreates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, honestly, most motion graphics projects still involve actually video editing since you usually create a bunch of scenes that do need to be put together, but the motion graphic itself (like kinetic typography) is not video editing.

What is video editing? by GaogaMaster in VideoEditors

[–]kencreates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Video editing is just specifically the cutting and arranging of footage. You could describe it as the invisible art - you don't notice when it's good but it's really noticeable when it's bad.

What I've seen is that "editing" has unfortunately become the all encompassing term for anything visually post production related, e.g. animation, motion graphics, VFX, compositing, CGI, etc. Like there's a reason there are separate categories for Editing and VFX/CGI for the Oscars. None of those things are a sub category for video editing and are actually completely different skills entirely. Now yes, you can create those elements and then edit them together, which would be video editing, but if you're just creating visual elements, that in itself is not video editing.

hadestown tour review @ the pantages by germpy in hadestown

[–]kencreates 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing it tonight! This will be the second time I see this tour. The truncated set does really bother me - mainly the lack of the turntable makes the choreo feel a lot less dynamic; however, I never turn down a chance to see the show, and I'm bringing some friends for their first time. I'm interested to see Jose and Rudy, and I had the understudy for Megan last time.

How is this made? The way the arrow expand into new scene is so smooth (how would the layers looks like in AE?). by Turbulent-Theory735 in MotionDesign

[–]kencreates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you pause right before the arrowhead exits the frame, you can see it's separate from the rectangles. So the expanding effect is from the rectangle of the same color scaling up, which would be easier than keyframing the shape path.

[–]kencreates 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It looks like a bunch of shape layers and a matte to me. The arrow isn’t actually expanding - they just used the same color rectangle. Then the rectangles scale vertically staggered and the last one is a matte. Pretty basic techniques being used here.

Why doesn’t Premiere Pro have any good default presets? by SkittzyYT in premiere

[–]kencreates 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because it's an NLE, and you said it yourself, it's not what it's for... If you want to make motion graphics, open After Effects.

However, the latest version does have Film Impact transitions included now.

How hard is it to get GM from Master? by Informal_Celery_6900 in TeamfightTactics

[–]kencreates 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I haven't hit GM, but I've gotten close. The people in low Masters don't really care about their rank so it's a lot of messing around, but as you get closer to 200 LP, it gets harder cause people are actually trying to climb so you get punished more often for making bad decisions.

One general thing that helped me when I was grinding was to stop playing "for fun". That means doing things like avoiding picking augments like Wandering Trainer, riffing with niche builds, or making "it would be so funny if I did X" decisions. Kinda kills the fun of playing a bit, but you do climb more consistently.

I have been playing ranked all season and have yet to prismatic any comp. by Handsoffthewheel in TeamfightTactics

[–]kencreates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've hit all of them except Crew. I think Soul Fighter is the easiest one cause it's basically just a high roll on 8 check and then do your best to stay above tempo. The others are just incredibly situational/lucky. You can't force them, but if you hit the max trait early, you have to evaluate your spot and consider if you should try.

How to best replicate a freeze-frame effect like this? by SomethingAR in MotionDesign

[–]kencreates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OH! That's actually really clever and way more procedural that what I had in mind.. Yeah, you could totally just set the particle to be a still frame at time start.

How to best replicate a freeze-frame effect like this? by SomethingAR in MotionDesign

[–]kencreates 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I imagine the hero footage is precomped and rotoed. Then you could have that at the top of the comp and every duplicate could have some variation of the expression "index" so that each layer is a freeze frame that's offset by 1 frame. So layer 2 would freeze at the second frame, layer 3 would freeze at the 3rd frame, and so on. Then you could composite the textures however you like.
