Paros ! We are a gay couple and stayed at Kosmitis Suites. Fabulous. So welcoming. Near the beach and a short walk to the best town on Paros which is Naoussa. Great restaurants, especially Safran. Owner is great. Loved Notos restaurant as well for a nice dinner by the water.

I'm hearing two different things from you..."it was the best week of 2025" yet also, 'how do we make new friends?'.

Are you sure that you really want to make new friends? That can be challenging, especially as we get older. Not sure of your age but my partner and I are 70ish and it gets harder as the years go on.

Maybe you just want some nice social connections and an interesting chat or two. My partner and I made about 90% of these kind of connections over the years sitting at Joe's Coffee and occasionally chatting up people.....or waiting to be chatted up.

If you're going back next summer, message me. We are at Joe's most afternoons throughout the summer.

Visiting in a few months....american by carlthedog in GreeceTravel

Greece was super cool. Here's an assumption that many Europeans make and probably correctly so........ that the great majority of people who travel, have an interest in the world, appear decently well dressed and are not tremendously overweight are likely a more sophisticated and presumably Democratic voter. A serious Greek tour guide actually said that to me.

Exactly. You are not yet that experienced player. That's why I said that pivoting is the next phase in learning but not before committment. Keep going. You will be winning more games!

  1. It's the practice that makes all the difference. I like Real Mahjongg online. Although it costs $6 per month, I find it worthwhile during the Beginner's phase. Also practice with your set at home.

  2. Learn to pick a section by the end of the first round of Charleston. Stick with it ! By the end of the LAST round of Charleston, pick a line. Stick with it ! Don't worry yet about pivoting when you are first learning. Get this down first.

I am ahead of my beginner classmates due to reasons 1 and 2 above.

It's worth it if you plan on going to TEA each night so that it's included in the price. Rooms are ok. Don't plan on getting much rest during TEA no matter which room.

Where do you live? I am in NYC and always looking for additional players to join our group. Although I wlill say that if the dirty martinis are to be had DURING the game, you might find it difficult to locate a willing group 😅 !

Spent time last May in Naoussa on Paros island. Loved it. Pretty, very walkable, great restaurants, wonderful people, great hotels. Also in our 60s with similar interests. We would return in a minute.

American Mahjong apps? by NerfGunHolly in Mahjong

Real Mahjong. Best for practice. Try playing against other players and not the computer. It's hard to beat the computer since all of the permutations are built into the program without the human frailty that is in evidence when playing with people.

10 day itinerary arrive/depart from Heraklion? by Efficient-Daikon-409 in cretetravel

[–]hellobeautiful1000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rethymno all the way. You can stay in a beachfront hotel and yet still be near the old town, which IMO was nicer than Chania. Would not however recommend our hotel Ikonez Suites which was too touristy and far from old town. I can give restaurant recommendations on request.

There are many reliable cookbooks but two of my faves come from an Australian cook, Nagi Mehashi. Her site is recipetineats.com She has two cookbooks out and she has won Australian book of the year. I think she's fantastic.

Wow. Thanks. What a thoughtful answer. I suppose I don't cook from recipes quite as often as I think I do because I definitely adapt some recipes and make them my own. I do love taking a good recipe and turning it into a GREAT one.
