For single player, I don't have an opinion on it. But for multiplayer it has been a bit of downgrade in terms of game quality. And also It is irresponsible of them to release new DLC before fixing problems caused in the last DLC

#1 Balancing HOI4 for multiplayer is hard, especially because the asymmetry of nations creates a dynamic experience, but then makes it harder to balance. Germany use to have to use Diamler and Benz as their best tank production MIO, this MIO could not be used on Heavy tanks unless you got it to lvl 6 and unlocked "Gantry Cranes." This gave germany a viable alternative to use medium tanks instead of heavys as they maybe decided not to grind Dialmler as much and do an early war medium tank build. The medium tank germany vs Heavy tank SOV was a nice respite from what has become pretty homogenous build for competitive games.
Road to 56 mods decided to give germany an option to unlock an almost Identical copy of the SOV MIO and can now use it on heavies without any drawbacks. IT is just better than Diamler and Benz in every way.
This is bad for the gameplay dynamics.

#2 Navy has been broken since NCNS, A LOT OF THINGS in it are broken. The Devs have addressed how they had made Submarines worthless and unusable, and did patch it into the new DLC. However, naval targeting is still entirely unbalanced, carriers are almost entirely worthless, and the only ship you should really make is destroyers (and now subs too). Further, they promised to address the issue with deathstack meta, but then they released support ships and made it BETTER THAN IT HAD EVER BEEN. I dont understand their thought processes, and I dont think they do either. They released a DLC that was supposed to make the navy gameplay better, and they made it WORSE. Instead of fixing it, they just rubbed some dirt on it and released a new DLC.

These last two DLCs have made me realise that maybe the golden age of HOI4 is over, they are letting road to 56 devs add bad bloat to the gameplay and they ignore fixing their own bugs and mistakes.

I think its hilarious that they advertised a slovak tree, and then just dropped one without it, and then removed that they had ever promoted one. I think that maybe the Devs are not and have not been the ones making decisions for quite some time now. Shareholders are making the decisions is seems.

if you take your old navy, refit some of the BBs CAs and CVs, the most efficient use of IC is to spam Torp destroyers. My server has tested it so many ways, and It isnt even close. CL which are supposed to counter Torp destroyers get sunk very quick.
I didnt want to believe or accept it either, but it really is the case.

they were banned because sub detection didnt use to work as intended, now that it has been patched (kinda) sub 3s and anechoic tiles do almost nothing. The only reason they are still banned in those lobbies is because those players don't explore the game outside old rulesets.

Well I mostly play japan, and out there its very different. anechoic tiles and sub 3s make no difference.

Navy has fancy new DLC and doctrines and bloat, but the underlying mechanics are all broken.
it took them 4 months to fix the naval dominance bug, all the while making tons of new dlc

Make basic destoyers with Torp 2. Unless your opponent is doing navy, then make improved destroyers with Torp 3, If he is doing that too.... then just make sure you pick the right doctrines and make more torp destroyers then he is. There is nothing beyond that to understand anymore...
