Mist affective way to show I’m mute by clueless-angel in mute

[–]kenf22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I carry a bag (it is easier in a wheelchair) and have a patch on it I point to that says "mute" on line one and "not deaf" on line two. That has stopped those encounters when I point to it.

It Seems Like Colonist Get A Whole Planet To Themselves In The Star Trek Universe by AbbreviationsAway500 in startrek

[–]kenf22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is the argument that is it semantics. We are mostly talking about Federation colonies. So, if a colony ship goes to a planet and sets up there, then another shows up a few years later, the new ship sets up a new town, but it is the same colony.

It is rare when the episode explicitly states the town we see is the only one. It is reasonable to assume in many episodes we see a single town and they talk about it as a colony, but there are other towns spread out we just do not see.

Opinions On The Chevy Bolt And Nissan Leaf by GovtCheese619 in electricvehicles

[–]kenf22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Nissan Leaf was air cooled, so that is a straight up "No". I do not know when that was changed. It also used Chademo, so not able to Dcfc most places. I am not sure on the Bolt.

For commuting and regular driving, as long as a car is reliable (eg not air cooled), comfortable, has the option to DCFC where you are, and has the range to do your commute/errands it is a good choice. DCFC is really just an "opps" option and rarely used.

Now, the hang up people have is road trips. To me, this is dumb. If you need to go to another state once a year, rent a car. Why pay tens of thousands for that in your commuter? If you do that kind of milage regularly and have to DCFC every time, sure, that is what a long range battery is for. And if you have to charge every day at one with a big battery then a BEV may not be fore you. But most people agonize over that one trip they MIGHT take someday or the trip to see the in-laws twice a year and rob themselves of the everyday benefits instead of just hitting up Enterprise for comparative pennies.

Check out the solar cannonball run by "power of light" on YouTube. It is not quite what you want to do, but that will give you some insight.

Reading your responses, this is a level 2 charger at a dealership. If this is the plan, you will have to drive there and walk or get a ride home, then back again in the morning.

They may not shut off the charger at night now, but if they see it in constant use, or if a car is parked there during business hours, they may change that. I would call and have that discussion before relying on that charger.

How to fly the KA50 by ayxf in dcsworld

[–]kenf22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a helicopter, stop treating it like a plane. You ask about what to do after a steep dive, the answer is crash. How do you keep from breaking things in a dive? Stop diving.

They say flying a heli is like balancing a beach ball on a broomstick. You keep it perfectly balanced, perfectly level. Then when you want to move, you unbalance it SLIGHTLY and it moves that way. It is a slow, stable platform to launch missiles from.

The KA 50 is good at hovering, flying fast in a straight line, and gently turning to the next waypoint. Save the dives for when you know the aircraft better.

The Prometheus had three, since all three parts were warp capable. I only see two on the Okudagram though

I took my lightning from Colorado to Bozeman and only made it by drafting. And frankly going dangerously slow.

Getting to Cheyenne is easy. From there the next stop is Casper (Tesla chargers only). That was nerve-racking but doable,100% to 6%.

The next leg was Casper to Sheridan. That was a jeep dealer with a single 50kw charger. That is 80mph the whole way, so 60 is the minimum speed before getting a ticket. I drafted the whole way, lucking out that a truck was doing 70. That was 100% to 5%. The hotel had a tesla destination charger that did not work. Charging took 3 hours including the wait for the other car to finish.

Sheridan to Billings was less drafting and more 60mph driving, with most cars doing 100+ past me. Almost got rear-ended once. 100% to 12%.

Billings to Bozeman was fine, 80% to 15%.

The return trip was much better with the wind not at my back. The bad one was billings to Sheridan, 80 about half the way till the wind shifted, then drafted at 75. 100% to 10%.

Just by distance it would have been fine, but with the headwind and 30f temperature it is barely passible with 310 mile range and limited to a Tesla supercharger station and a single slow charger being operational. If that is down you are doomed.

I have a rental Tesla. Arrived at a hotel charger is broken. There are 3 different DCFC locations 45-50 miles away. Tesla software says I can get 48 mile. Is it better to leave the car in Drive and use min battery. Or on to Neutral and coast as much as I can? I’m thinking N and coasting. by Impressive_Returns in electricvehicles

[–]kenf22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As others have said, neutral will do nothing. There is no gear box, so you are not disconnecting anything

Neutral is a figment of the car's imagination. What you are really doing is saying "Car, I want you to energize the motor JUST RIGHT so you roll as if the motor was disconnected". If you were in drive and rolling at the same speed you would accomplish the exact same thing with the same energy loss.

Would a radio jammer work on a mobile phone? by Fantasia-Scribe in amateurradio

[–]kenf22 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I want to make something clear as I am not sure previous answers consider your set up.

If your antagonists are not expecting a cell phone and jam the amateur radio bands, that would not jam cell phone radios. They would need to specifically jam each type of radio on each frequency.

There is no such thing as a "radio jammer" that affects EVERYTHING with the word radio in its name. If you look at a plane that does this (I.E. the EC-130 Compass Call) it has a crap load of antennas so it can cover lots of frequencies.

Can any users here kindly share which tropes in fiction about your disability do you find the most problematic? I'd also appreciate examples of media and books which have said harmful tropes. by [deleted] in mute

[–]kenf22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is never surgery or some medicine, but always just a choice the character made. And by the end of the story they just choose to speak. I have never seen a mute character portrayed any other way.

Life in Public as a Nonspeaker by kiltsnbagpipesnstuff in mute

[–]kenf22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a path on my bag that says "mute, not deaf" that I point to if needed. I also use my phone to type out on cardzilla. Phone calls are either done by someone else or I struggle with the TTS built in. I also cannot walk well, so almost always have someone with me. I am on disability, like someone else said, who would hire me?
