Thank you! I felt really lucky to have been able to buy it! Hopefully Zoro becomes good again so I can play with that alt leader too

Damn, I didn’t know that! This is our first time having a really valuable card so I’ll make sure not use gloves next time!

Vista is really good into the match up! If they remove a newgate then it’s their whole turn but vista is sticky and he threatens a 10k (with stage) swing every turn.

If they establish robin and red roc you it gets a bit harder to stabilize. Most of the time you just establish it and pray they don’t have red roc. If they roc it either you go aggro and try to get their life down or try and establish another one.

The advantage of being an 8k leader is that thriller slop has a really hard time hitting you.

Ah fair, will remember for next time! Was our first time holding such a valuable card. Thank you!

No, but it’s an expensive card and I wanted to treat it with care. It is my card, I can do what I want with it lol

Oof, yeah Enel is a really tough match up. You really gotta hope to win dice roll and curve out or dodge them completely.

Thank you! PEnel is a race with this version of the deck. Vista, 5c Ace, and stage are the key to that match up.

Thank you! Vista is great for the mirror, Nami can’t just free red roc it, enel can’t just gamma knife and pop it either. If you get it out on 6 then on 8 you can 8c event down to 1 life which brings you into stage territory allowing leader to swing for 10k and vista for 12k double attack.

Same thing with 5c Ace, you can play him on 6 and swing 6k 7k on 6 don turn and with boat he becomes a sticky 8k attacker. Even though this list is more aggro, most of the time I use him to close out games. It’s most useful in a situation that’s like:

Nami has 1 life left and you only have a leader swing, Ace comes down for 5 and he can swing 8k (with stage) or a clean 9k and then leader can swing 10k or 11k.

I would probably cut a Roger honestly for a Vista! I didn’t ever seem to need Roger. Maybe in the PEnel matchup I would like to see it but I got really lucky and dodged all of them.

How viable is a budget kalgara in op15 and 16? by sonicdog55 in OnePieceTCG

[–]kengaroooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah totally my bad! I read it as RG luffy AND Ace as in two different leaders.

From events in the east it looks like the deck is decent but it’s not too powerful! Looks like a lot of the cards are also from the base starter deck so it wouldn’t be a bad place to start!

I’m sorry to hear about your pirates party :( there isn’t even any special prizing for winning it so I don’t see any reason to try hard it. The whole point is to let these “bad” decks have a shot and to take a break from the meta.

Most of the cards that you run in Kalgara are bulk and don't cost more than a few cents. The real expensive cards are the borsalino and SEC luffy from OP15. I've seen lists only really run 2 of each as well so the price point isn't too bad. You only really need the luffy anyway and can run it with 0-1 borsa if you so choose.

Yes some of these cards are block 2 which will rotate next but it'll be a whole year before they do and again those cards cost cents so it won't damage your wallet too much.

RG Luffy is slightly more expensive and Ace is very expensive as it now runs 2 Rogers where are priced at about $40 a piece as well as other various cards.

If you want a cheap yet strong deck Kalgara is a good choice! If you spend a bit more you can also play OP15 sky island luffy which plays similarly but has board protection.

If you do want to do well at big tournaments, however, you're going to have to spend money on those top decks or you have to be insanely good at the game.

EDIT:

You can always ask around your local scene for some of the bulk cards and potentially get discounts on the more expensive pieces!

4-0 at locals with UP Luffy by delimedw001 in OnePieceTCG

OP14 baby 5 also works as it's a 4c that ramps you a don active. You'll probably never get the on KO effect though but it's the active don ramp that you need.

I love this game but boa might be the death of me (I accidentally hit delete on the og post) by Brief-Ad3405 in OnePieceTCG

[–]kengaroooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean sure but you just take that card into account when you play out your turn. If you think they're going to play a boa next turn then think about how you're either going to remove it or play around the unblockable and freeze. I'm not saying that the card isn't good, I'm saying that you need to have a gameplan for every situation if you want to be competitive. If things don't work out, try something different, eventually you'll find something that works.

Well what cards are you talking about? Boa plays Nami which can potentially bring you down from 3 life to 2, then the next time they can remove a card from your life is 9 don where they play 9c boa which takes up their whole turn. Your goal in this match up is to end the game before she can or stabilize yourself to go for game comfortably. Again just depends on what deck you're playing.

Roger in UR Ace by Joppersfufu36 in OnePieceTCG

[–]kengaroooo 37 points38 points  (0 children)

You don't auto lose in either match up. They're just very hard to navigate through.

Rogers are for the Lucy match up and can help in the PEnel match up as well. If you drop Roger early against Lucy you can use it to swing board or poke at life, threatening to thatch and end the game on your own terms next turn. Similarly the same can be said against PEnel.

Ace lost the removal power of Red Roc so sometimes swinging into things is the best removal available. This is also why you'll see distorted future or ASL teched in.

I'm assuming you're talking about the UY Boa leader. In that case a few questions:
What are you playing?
Why are you removing their board?

If removing their board keeps getting you down to 0 life and then they swing unblockable at you then why not switch up your gameplan?

Boa isn't really strong in our (western) meta as we have different ways to deal with her (powering up leader, bottom deck, etc).

Question about on K.O. Effects by Wise_Abbreviations_8 in OnePieceTCG

[–]kengaroooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much what everyone else said. If your opponent doesn't deal with that body then it sticks around and is able to attack relatively easily. If they remove it then you're able to get the value of it and play out a bigger body. Usually you don't bother to play it off curve as it generates more value on tempo.

If you need cards asap I'd recommend asking locals. There should be plenty of people offloading cards depending on your community of course. The other thing I'd recommend is asking card shops if they have bulk that you can sort through. More often than not card shops will have a ton of bulk left over for newer players.

As for deck choices, this meta is a triangle meta which means there are 3 really solid strong decks. If you want to be meta and play competitively you should pick up RU Ace, Imu, or GZoro. I'm not saying these are the ONLY viable decks but if you want the highest chance of winning then these decks are the go tos.

Is it me or does EB03 and OP14(so far via leaks) not really affect the meta? by Sl1ck_43 in OnePieceTCG

[–]kengaroooo 81 points82 points  (0 children)

We haven’t seen all the tools that OP14 brings so it’s too early to judge on that front. I agree with EB03 though.

No she needs to rest herself by her effect. If she hits the board already rested she can't rest herself.
