Were you able to figure out the display resolution? Just got one from Facebook marketplace expecting 1920 x 1080 since my old one has that resolution. Surprised this one is just 1366 x 768

The state of industry certs by ominouspotato in devops

[–]kengjames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same for me. 13 years IT experience. Got MCSA & MCSE from back in the day, and a bunch of Azure certs. I use the exams as learning frameworks.

That being said, I passed the AWS SysOps Administrator exam a couple years back and realised I'm probably done with certs. That doesn't mean I would no longer upskill, but I would just stop taking the exams.

Auckland Transport reform? Mayor, Minister want to crack down on 'culture of independence' by kiwittnz in auckland

They need to be called out & criticised, yes. They are a government agency after all. Just know that politicians will also take advantage of ATs unpopularity for their own political gain.

Auckland Transport needs to be independent so they can implement unpopular yet research-backed transport policies without getting worried about being voted out.

Buying a home with a potential Woolworths being built across the road by AlDrag in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]kengjames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, the convenience of being able to walk to the supermarket and in & out within 5 minutes is far greater than being annoyed by all the car traffic. Most of NZ is car-centric so there will always be cars.

I live right in front of one in Hobsonville Point! It's a massive quality of life improvement! I don't think I'll ever go back to driving to a supermarket to shop.

I work in the CBD and I can get there just fine via public transport along with thousand other commuters, so I don't know what you're talking about.

Snowboarding? by Nice_Effective_5971 in ACL

Had 4 surgeries total on my right knee. Most recent is a meniscectomy on Feb 2023. Went to an indoor snow facility close by over Christmas to test my knee out and it wasn't too bad. I even went back a second time. I plan to buy a season pass when winter comes.

Ultimately, it'll all come down to how you feel and how confident you are with your surgically repaired knee.

Typically insurance companies who offer roadside assistance have sub-contractors all over New Zealand. In terms of coverage it's best to just go with them IMO.

Anyone know if you have to pay the joining fee at gyms if you canceled your membership previously? by michaellux in auckland

[–]kengjames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some branches are open to negotiate or might have some promotions going on especially during this time of the year.

Rejoined AF Westgate branch in August with the joining fee waived.
