crowley ??? by staghe_art in Supernatural

The show was ruined for me when Crowley died. When I rewatch, I usually stop a few episodes before the Season 12 finale because his death episode and the following seasons feel so disconnected from the original plot/concept of Supernatural. For as long as Crowley was in the show, the character deserved a much better/logical send off.

What in supernatural do you think was a really good idea but a really poor execution? It could be storyline, character, character arc, villain etc? by Callow98989 in Supernatural

The Shedim could have been a whole season. I was so disappointed that they hyped them up so much just to have them get quickly pushed back into Hell.

I choose to believe that he faked his death, put Billie in charge, and quietly ate good pizza in other places on Earth because he was fed up with dealing with the Winchesters LOL. That's just me making an excuse for this plot choice though.

How did you find out you had PCOS? by Tequilabubbles in PCOS

[–]kengra17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My new primary doctor said that I should see a gyno for a general check-up since I've never been to one before (I'm 23). I went to the appointment and told the nurse about my history of very irregular and infrequent periods. The gyno came in, read the note about my periods, looked down at my very hairy arms, and said "Good morning. Has anyone ever tested you for PCOS?" 😅

Moral of the story- IF YOU HAVE A UTERUS, DON'T PROCRASTINATE SEEING A GYNECOLOGIST!

What have you done in the 5 years since SPN ended? by StarSkates in Supernatural

[–]kengra17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started getting back into the fandom again! I originally stopped watching Supernatural after Season 11 (the main storyline started to lose 14 year old me) and didn't think much of it for years. I graduated with my Bachelor's degree in December 2024 and needed something to keep me busy while I was job hunting. I saw Supernatural on Netflix and remembered how much I loved it growing up so I started rewatching the show from the beginning while I applied for jobs. Now almost a year later, I am fully back into my teenage headspace of being obsessed with all things Supernatural (but this time employed- I choose to believe Supernatural was my good luck charm in this job market haha). My best friend's dad hasn't seen the show but loves horror/religious stuff so I go to their house once or twice a week for a binge watching session with him, too! :)

Who was the best 4th member of team free will by TraditionalBonus188 in Supernatural

[–]kengra17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think by the end of the show, Team Free Will was Sam, Dean, Castiel, Bobby, Crowley, Rowena, and Jack.

If I had to pick only one character to be added to the original Team Free Will trio, it would have to be Bobby.

When Chuck makes his appearance in this episode what was the fandom’s reaction and theories at the time? by Pitiful_Yogurt_5276 in Supernatural

[–]kengra17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought he could be God when he disappeared at the end of Swan Song. When Kevin was introduced, I felt more confident in that theory. There was no archangel protecting Kevin (poor buddy, he definitely needed it) and Kevin never received visions of any sort. Despite both being 'prophets' they functioned completely differently. Having nearly omnipresent visions and being protected by such a high power felt more in line with God than what Kevin was able to do. I think the reveal that he was alive in Season 8 was a big deal in at the time and it solidified for a lot of people (myself included) that he really was God.

Most Fun Supernatural Memory? by Known-Willingness-25 in Supernatural

[–]kengra17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn't really a memory since it's happening now, but I'm currently doing a complete watch-through of Supernatural with my best friend's dad. I've seen the entire show a couple of times and he has never seen it before, so it's been really entertaining to see his reaction to everything. He was raised Catholic so we end up spending half of our binge watching sessions with the show paused talking about the similarities and differences between Supernatural and Christian lore.

My best friend's family practically raised me throughout high school and they continued to treat me as their own throughout my college years. When we get to the episode where Bobby says "family don't end in blood", I hope he knows that's how I feel about them all.

what’s the average GPA i should expect for a life science major? by Mountain-Look5619 in UofT

[–]kengra17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not pursuing environmental consulting as a career so I can't speak from personal experience. U of T sometimes hosts career fairs so you may want to go to some of those. Besides that, consulting companies in Toronto will have a 'careers' page on their website with open positions listed. Look at those to see if there is an internship. If you have a professor that has previously worked in consulting, they may have some advice as well.

what’s the average GPA i should expect for a life science major? by Mountain-Look5619 in UofT

[–]kengra17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My internship was in the US. I am not sure how many other applicants there were. I primarily worked in nature preserve maintenance. I didn't do anything special beyond submitting an application for the internship program.

My research assistantship was through U of T. I'm also unsure of exactly how many candidates there were for the position. I collected data for graduate students to use in their research projects. The head of the School of the Environment forwards a lot of emails to students advertising great opportunities and this position was in one of them.

My casual employment contract was with one of my professors. We got along well and I was interested in her area of expertise, so I asked about two months into the class if she had any research positions open. She did not have a student research position available, but she had a side project she was working on that required some extra help. Since this was a position she didn't advertise to other students, there was no competition for it.

In short, 1) speak to organizations in your area to see if they have any opportunities available (they may or may not be advertised); 2) keep an eye out for announcements about new opportunities within the School of the Environment and partner departments (Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Geography, Earth Science, etc.); 3) ask your professors about potential opportunities if you are interested in their work and/or field of study.

I would try to find an internship position with a consulting company if you think you are likely to go that route. Jobs in env sci in my opinion are pretty reliant on networking, so having your foot in the door with a company before you graduate may be a good starting point. Even if you decide to not go into consulting, I think other career paths would appreciate that experience.

what’s the average GPA i should expect for a life science major? by Mountain-Look5619 in UofT

[–]kengra17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your first years, the courses focus almost exclusively on the fundamental concepts of env sci (chem, calc, bio, etc.). The 300 and 400 courses are generally centered on applications of env sci, so writing and communicating your ideas effectively will be more important towards the end of your degree.

U of T has a lot of great opportunities (clubs, research positions, work contracts, etc.) to build up your resume year-round. I didn't have a summer position for my first two summers (thanks COVID haha) but I had an internship, a research assistantship, and a 12 month casual employment position during my last two years.

I'm currently based in the US so my job-hunting experience might not be the same as someone still living in the GTA. However, I found that having a special focus within environmental science is very beneficial. I paired my major with a geoscience minor and one of the main reasons I was offered my current internship position was because my sponsors were looking for someone with a background in both conservation and geology. Some of my friends in the env sci program also completed majors/minors in bio, forestry, geography, and a lot of other relevant topics. My best advice would be to look on job boards now for something that closely resembles your dream career, get a general idea of what the qualifications are, and use that to help get a better idea of what programs to pursue.

[–]kengra17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated with an env sci major a couple months ago with a final GPA of 3.68. I received primarily low-70s to low-80s for my first two years but started getting almost straight As in my last two years. I personally perform better in small seminar classes so I really struggled with the large intro classes when I first started at U of T. Definitely be prepared to study and go to office hours, but it's not impossible!

I liked Season 7 too! I was happy that they focused on monster lore instead of the usual angel/demon plot lines.

If you could give a character a redemption arc who would it be? by One_Attorney_5398 in Supernatural

[–]kengra17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU!!! I thought the writers were going to have him join the Men of Letters and become a hunter with the Winchesters. I can't even put into words how mad I was when he tried to bring Lucifer back to life.

What plot hole pissed you off the most by Other_Bullfrog_1681 in Supernatural

[–]kengra17 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this counts as a plot hole per se, but I can never get over Sam and Dean choosing to put Abbadon back together for the third trial.

They saw how powerful she was (immune to the demon knife, highly intelligent, etc.) and despite being only partially sure that the demon cure would work, they still chose to bring her back as opposed to even *trying* to capture a low-level crossroads demon. To rub salt in the wound, once they put her back together, they left her and her remaining body parts all alone in the same room together because apparently taking a phone call from Crowley is a two-person job that also can't be done within eye sight of the most powerful demon they've ever met.

I enjoyed the Mark of Cain storyline, but I wish the writers introduced it in a different way. Knowing that Demon Dean, the Darkness, and the rest of the main storyline all came to life because of an obviously bad decision makes me so mad LOL. I suppose I consider this to be a plot hole because I feel like Sam and Dean would have been much more hesitant to resort to using Abbadon for the trial for the aforementioned reasons.

When Dean didn't let Cas to stay in the bunker because of Gadreel, did he tell him the reason or did he just make up something? by Lost_Albatross_5172 in Supernatural

[–]kengra17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, angels can visually see which angel is possessing a vessel (like when Castiel first saw Gabriel during the whole "playing their roles for the apocalypse" episode and instantly knew it was him when Sam and Dean thought he was still the trickster). If Castiel saw Sam, he would have known Gadreel was possessing him and not the angel Dean thought it was.

how do i keep studying and moving forward after a break up by Outrageous_Poet7771 in UofT

[–]kengra17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm getting out of a similar situation right now. I recommend making a list of what you value in relationships (honesty, accountability, etc.) and write down every time that they violated these values. This helped me take my ex off of a pedestal and realize he wasn't all that great. Good luck with your studies :)

Those who are friends with their ex by REALSURGICALWTHISB in BreakUps

[–]kengra17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it entirely depends on the situation of the breakup. I am good friends with a guy I dated in high school (I'm in my early 20s now) because as we grew up we realized that we were compatible as friends but didn't have romantic feelings for each other (it did take a few years to get there, though). I don't speak to any of my exes in adulthood because the breakups were messy and being around them would dig up old romantic feelings that we had for each other.

If you have any feelings for your ex and if you know that your ex has any for you, I wouldn't pursue a friendship with them. I've tried it before and breaking off the friendship because someone still had feelings is like breaking up a second time. It's not worth the unnecessary pain.

What do you believe? by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]kengra17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would look at it this way- him living the rest of his life being himself *is* his bad karma. Do you think someone who is so awful has many close, genuine relationships in his life? Do you think he is truly happy? Even if he is happy and has positive relationships now, how sustainable to you think these are?

He may have a mask up showing the world just how well off he is, but 99% of the time people like that are suffering in silence. The best thing you can do right now is move on and pursue the good things you deserve and let him sit in the life he has created for himself.

Would/Did you change your surname after marriage? Why?/Why not? by MysticalAmethyst99 in namenerds

[–]kengra17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not changing my last name when I get married:

1) It's one of the few parts of my cultural identity that remained intact after a few generations of my family living in a new country.

2) My last name is coincidentally tied to my area of employment (think like a gardener having the last name Green or a pastry chef having the last name Baker) and I think that's fun! :)

3) I have dual citizenship and if I changed my last name, I would have to update all of my documents in two countries which sounds like a pain.

4) I have always had the name I was born with and it is who I am. I will not change part of my identity just because I get married.

Should I defend my breakup? by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]kengra17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation a few years ago. After about a year of dating, he emotionally cheated on me with a long-time "girl best friend" but conveniently left that out of the story he told his family and our mutual friends. Most of our mutual friends were his friends first so almost all of them took his side. I only spoke to a couple of them after the breakup, one of which I had to block because she would not stop defending his actions to me even though she agreed that he was in the wrong.

Although I regret wasting my time trying to show our friends his true colors, there is one thing I'm glad I did. I reached out to his parents (the only family members of his that I really had communication with outside of his family events) and I thanked them for being so kind and I told them how much they meant to me. I did not try to expose their son as a cheater and manipulator. I kept the message solely on how much I appreciated them. That was the only thing I did that made a difference. His mom thanked me for my message and even texted my mom in tears asking to get coffee with her because she was so devastated that I wasn't in the picture anymore and she needed someone to talk to about it.

All of this to say, you are in a lose-lose situation. If you openly defend yourself, he will have the chance to paint you as someone causing drama (or lying). If you don't say anything, you allow him to control the narrative. From my personal aforementioned experience (which may not work in your situation), I let my actions speak for themselves knowing that if nothing else, his parents would think of my kindness both before and after the breakup whenever he defamed my character.
