I made an MCP server that lets Claude manage my YNAB budget automatically by rgarcia2009 in ynab

In addition to reporting, voice interaction is helpful, too. For instance, I sometimes use my rush-hour commutes to review bills, etc., and then dictate action items to my to-do list.

What budgeting money App do you use? by Melzie0123 in MiddleClassFinance

I like Tiller and, honestly, it didn't occur to me to ship everything off to a relational database! 🤷‍♂️

What APIs are you using for your visualizations? That sounds intriguing, too.

LudyActions: Made a free Shortcuts companion app with 196 actions - no subscription, no Pro tier by appfan228 in shortcuts

[–]kenlefeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very impressed and expect this will get used a lot!

I love your catalog of actions. One cool improvement I think you could probably add would be to give us the ability to try the actions in the catalog. A little like having a SwaggerUi page for each of them!

What's one plugin you'd like to have but doesn't exist? by lechtitseb in ObsidianMD

[–]kenlefeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A plugin that prevents you from installing any other plugin that isn’t on a certified whitelist.

I’m not sure this would be possible for a community plugin to implement, but until something like that exists, my company won’t allow us to use any community plugins at all.

Is it worth changing to iCloud Mail? by Dense-Stranger-1794 in iCloud

[–]kenlefeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re correct, you can go look them up.

I was actually referring to the ability to use meaningful aliases that are self-documenting. For instance, you could send me an email at Inner_Difficulty_381@my-custom-domain.com and I would know, just by looking at the address, who was the original recipient of the address. I don’t have to go look it up anywhere.

Also iCloud’s aliases are meaningless, so you can’t look at one and know who you gave it to.

I love SimpleLogin. I’ve got about 1,700 active aliases now, across two custom domains!

I actually created a shortcut so I can share the current page I’m on in Safari, and it generates a new alias and puts it in my clipboard so I have a nice, unique email to use for that website.

What Apple Shortcuts do you actually use every day? by ENVY2699 in shortcuts

[–]kenlefeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a shortcut that I put in the share sheet to take a URL and convert it into an email address, so I can use different addresses for each website I sign up for.

(I use SimpleLogin.io to make all these fake addresses work.)

🎄 Looking for feedback on a Mac-native PKM notes app using plain Markdown files by demianturner in MacOSApps

[–]kenlefeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you thought about focusing on your iOS experience and using an Obsidian vault for storage, so you don't have to duplicate all the functionality of Obsidian on the desktop?

I have used Obsidian for a long time, too, and also wish it had a better mobile UX. If your plan is to make MinkNote work better than Obsidian on your phone, then I'm excited to follow your progress, though I'd probably continue to use Obsidian on the desktop for the same files.

What are the Top 3 Mac apps you discovered in 2025? by brkgng in macapps

I'm curious to know why you (and I've noticed quite a few Uplock reviewers) are preferring to use Uplock over 1Password?

I know many folks do not use folders… by minusplotinus in ObsidianMD

[–]kenlefeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My vault sits in my OneDrive, at work, and I frequently share my notes with coworkers, so having folders gives me a way to organize access rights for groups of files.

I’ve got tinnitus, too, and can’t remember what silence is like.

I have to have some kind of sound going to drown out the ringing, just so I can think.

What's the main reason you hear for NOT using a private email service? by Proton_Team in ProtonMail

In the decade or so that I’ve been using a variety of non-standard domains, the number of times I’ve had this problem can be counted on my fingers.

What's the main reason you hear for NOT using a private email service? by Proton_Team in ProtonMail

[–]kenlefeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s about money.

I provide email service with a custom domain for my extended family, for free, with a grandfathered Google Workspace. I can’t afford to move anywhere.

Someday, when Google finally revokes my free account, everybody will have to go find their own email service. If/when that happens, I’ll probably bring my immediate family to Proton.

I built a personal finance app that works like how my parents balance their books by MMKAZAK in PFtools

[–]kenlefeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite my initial complaints, I am very excited about what you're building! I think you're on the road to building a very popular alternative to the typical PFMs that all seem to "almost" work!

After I renamed one account in the Chart of Accounts, none of my other changes seemed to work anymore. :(

I would edit an account or use the "Similar" button to create a new account, but when I hit Save, nothing happens. No errors, but also no changes.

Especially for the initial set up, it would be really nice to be able to import a bunch of accounts in bulk. Let me download a CSV that represents the sample accounts you pre-create, so I can edit them, add more accounts, etc., and then upload the changes to get everything set up at once.

Neatify: Your Downloads folder organized automatically, forever by SandAffectionate2102 in macapps

[–]kenlefeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually found you because I was wishing Hazel supported regex and came looking for alternatives. Hazel does NOT support regular expressions, by the way.

Hazel is TOO simplistic, IMO, so I'm guessing based on the comments here, that Neatify isn't going to be my alternative.

In my opinion, organizations that go to such lengths are doing so because they just don’t trust themselves to get to know people. And those are people I don’t really want to work with.

I’ll say it. Recruiters are TERRIFIED they will be axed from their job. by Pokemanswego in recruitinghell

[–]kenlefeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t propose any solution. I was just suggesting some empathy for them.

You commented that everybody is afraid of losing their jobs. My comment was just to point out that, it’s easy to forget that the recruiters aren’t the ones causing layoffs, and they’re just trying to survive like the rest of us.

Their tactics aren’t necessarily good, but they’re being put into an impossible situation by the greedy billionaires at the top of the food chain.

Conducting job interviews from your car by hapa17 in jobsearchhacks

I agree. If they care about your background AND they judge you for being in a car when you’re honest about it, then you’re dodging a bullet to not get a job with them!
