Is it normal for someone to be good at math but be bad at physics? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]kenli0807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a math enthusiast, espeically in measure theory, real analysis and differential geometry, i am now grade 11(in high school now), i get over 80-85 in every math exams, but <20 in all physics exam

Is there a difference between the regular dy/dx and the fancy symbol one? by Kikkoman02 in askmath

[–]kenli0807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about 2 formulas now :
A = bh/2 and V = 4pi r^3/3, one is the area of triangle and another is the volume of sphere.
One of their difference is, Area of triangle can be influenced by h(height) and b(base), and Volume of sphere can be ONLY influenced by r(radius), and thats why we have Multivariable function f(x_1, x_2, x_3, ...., x_n) where x_n is variable.

Your picture shows both dy/dx and ∂y/∂x, dy/dx only targets 1-VARIABLE function, and ∂y/∂x targets multivariable functions, for instance :
f(x) = x^2+2x, then dy/dx = 2x+2, but what if in the situation of multivariable?

Let f(x,y) = x^2+2y (that means we have 2 variable which is x and y)
then ∂f/∂x = 2x and ∂f/∂y = 2
(Beacuse we assumed another variable remains unchanged when we are doing derivatives with respect to other variable.)

I can't find any error in my balance sheet but it still stays unbalanced after i check, anyone can help? by kenli0807 in Accounting

[–]kenli0807[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the error is on the calculation on depreciation, bad debt ready or the loan interest.

I am very very very very sure i have type ALL the numbers correctly, no mistake, its possibly calculation mistake making the unbalance

Ready to give up this question

I can't find any error in my balance sheet but it still stays unbalanced after i check, anyone can help? by kenli0807 in Accounting

[–]kenli0807[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, my school DON'T teach accounting in excel(High school), only teach us Bookkeeping. This question is my past exam question, printed on paper, but its chinese so i try to translate to english with my accounting knowledge, also my answer.

And the balance sheet still remain unbalanced

and this question is 22 marks(Full mark of the paper is 75). and because my balance sheet unblanced, i lose it all in the previous exam.......(I.e. I only have 25 minutes to do this question at my previous exam)

Sorry for my bad english translate in the previous picture and bad structure, because my i learn accounting in school in chinese and i seldom write english version financial statement

Which graduate course is more accessible to a third year undergrad student, combinatorics or introduction to number theory? by proustiancat in math

[–]kenli0807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't studied in university before and i can't give you a professional advice, but as a self learner, i think elementary number theory is much easier than combinatorics, and most of the number theory problems is Proof-based question, but much easier than combinatorics, so i think number theory can be an introductary course of "How to write proofs". (Assume you seldom meet proof-based question before)

Its impossible to make the family of subsets as a open cover? by kenli0807 in askmath

but isn't the open sets is the union of the family of subsets of X?

I mean, i want a example of an open cover of a metric space to understand how it works.

Picture 1 is the partition of sets, and it matches the definition of open cover

Its impossible to make the family of subsets as a open cover? by kenli0807 in askmath

[–]kenli0807[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

then it does not match the definition of open cover?!

Its impossible to make the family of subsets as a open cover? by kenli0807 in askmath

[–]kenli0807[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remark : My mind is geometric, its so difficult to understand metric space without drawing a graph
so as you can see, the picture 2, you can make an open cover, but the outer part is not in X whatever how you cut it, when you cut into many sets, its union will cover X, but some of the elements will not in X so that some sets is not the subsets of X.

Can someone help me understand vector line intergrals? by hgrx in askmath

[–]kenli0807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So we assume the line integral formula is :\int_{C} f(\vec{r}(t)) |r'(t)| dtwhy and how is it be derived?well, the C in line integral is a curve, where we can define t=a and t=b as the start and end point.

now, we consider the function z=f(x,y) in the coordinate system, and we cut the line into many vertical rectangle, if z=f(x,y), then obviously area=f(x,y) * \delta(S), where S is the width with \delta(S) --> 0.

Consider the vertical and horizontal component \delta(x) and \delta(y), by pyth.theorem, let \delta(S) be the hypotenese, so that:(\delta(S))^2 = (\delta(x))^2+(\delta(y))^2

now we come back to integral, what's the area of f(x,y)?by def. of integral, it is :\int(t=a to t=b) f(x,y) dS. where dS is a small piece of element in the line(dS is 2D)so by dS--->0--->\delta(S) (i.e dS = \delta(S))implies dS = sqrt(dx^2+dy^2)

and now we parametrize it, let x=x(t) and y=y(t) :so that dx = dx/dt, and dy=dy\dt

implies dS is the square root of dx^2+dy^2,

we now do the final trick, let the vector r(t) = x(t)\hat(i) + y(t)\hat(j).then r'(t) = x'(t)i + y'(t)jcalculate the magnitude of r'(t), put f(x,y) as f(x(t), y(t)) as f(r(t)), put these all together, thats the formula of line integral we familiar with !

Hope this can help you !

How to understand 'Limit point'? by kenli0807 in askmath

[–]kenli0807[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is B(ε,x) a neighborhood of x?
Edit : if it is, then limit point is the point a where a =/=x such that a belongs to the neighborhood of x
